On the Islamic Calendar, a lunar calendar, the sighting of a crescent moon signals the beginning of the next month. With the expected sighting of the waxing crescent moon toward the end of March, nearly 2 billion Muslims worldwide and less than 1% of Rhode Islanders who are Muslim, according to the Pew Research Center, will celebrate Eid al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is almost over, which means that Eid al-Fitr is coming soon.

Millions of Muslims around the world every year observe Ramadan, a period of prayer, reflection and abstinence that coincides with the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

At the end of that month – during which Muslims do not eat or drink at all during the daylight hours – they get to break their fast and celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr is one of two Eid holidays that Muslims celebrate each year. The other, Eid al-Adha, coincides with the end of the sacred Hajj pilgrimage season.

Eid Al Fitr 2026 in UAE: Shawwal crescent moon sighting across the world

Several Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, will attempt to sight the Shawwal crescent today (Wednesday) evening, marking the 29th day of Ramadan. Other countries conducting moon sightings today include Bahrain, Kuwait, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan and parts of Iraq.

Astronomical calculations suggest the crescent will be invisible worldwide on Wednesday, as it is expected to set before sunset. In other regions, including Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and North Africa, Thursday will be the 29th day of Ramadan, with moon sightings scheduled after sunset. Eid Al Fitr in these countries is expected on Friday or Saturday, depending on confirmed sightings.

The fourth season of Shonda Rhimes’s “Bridgerton,” which concludes this week, crackles with romantic electricity between two lovers: Benedict, the second son of the wealthy Bridgerton family, and Sophie, his family’s maid. When Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, and Sophie, played by Yerin Ha, are onscreen together, the scenes thrum with their attraction. Their palpable connection is, for me, the best part of the show.

But then the spell breaks and the show moves on to another plot, or subplot, with other characters. And this is why “Bridgerton” will always be frustrating to me. Instead of a study of two characters’ evolving erotic connection, the show is a sprawling soap opera. We are faced with scenes of Francesca Bridgerton’s passionless marriage bed and Violet Bridgerton’s first ever assignation; we see the Featherington housekeeper requesting better pay and Lady Danbury scheming to retire from the queen’s service.

However, fear not, for season 4 is on the way—and the powers at Netflix are drip feeding us exciting tidbits about the show’s return, from the cast to the juicy plot. We now know that season four will centre around Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest Bridgerton sibling and bohemian bachelor of the Ton. His love interestm Sophie Baek is to be portrayed by Yerin Ha, who hails from Sydney.

But nothing could have prepared her for the frenzy of becoming the newest paramour in Netflix's beloved regency fantasy Bridgerton.

"It's insane. Those numbers [on TikTok] are so big you don't quite grasp the actual reality of it," Ha says.

Yerin Ha didn’t change for Bridgerton, the show changed for her

When Yerin Ha walked onto the set of Bridgerton for the first time, she felt like she had “climbed through a TV”.

“It’s a world I had watched for years,” says Ha, who plays maid Sophie Baek in season four of the wildly popular Regency-era drama. “It felt so bizarre and surreal, but it just shows you how much work goes into preparing this detail, from the ceilings to the colours and everything. It just made it more realistic and easier for me to be able to focus on the scenes.”

The 28-year-old Australian-Korean actor, who grew up on Sydney’s north shore, is in the middle of eating breakfast during a hectic trip back to Australia for the AACTA awards. It’s a brief respite from a whirlwind few weeks, where she was unveiled – quite literally, her character first appears wearing a mask at a ball – as the new love interest of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).

The first crewed Moon mission in more than 50 years could be launched by Nasa as soon as the first week of February.

Nasa is preparing to roll out its most powerful rocket yet before a mission to send astronauts around the moon and back again for the first time in more than 50 years.

The Artemis II mission is scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida as early as 6 February, taking its crew on a 685,000-mile round trip that will end about 10 days later with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

The flight will mark only the second test of Nasa’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the first with a crew onboard. The four astronauts will live and work in the Orion capsule, testing life support and communications systems and practising docking manoeuvres.

"You have two stories, we can turn things in one half to come back 3-1 and win this game and the second story, we have a centre-forward with Youssef [Chermiti] who scores fantastic goals.

"We should enjoy, but tomorrow we have to be again, ready for the next game. This is a demanding league.
