    🏉 Australia 31-33 Ireland | NZ 34-32 France | Email Daniel

72 min: SA line-out on England’s 22. Marx throws and gets it back. Dixon carries. Wessells does likewise. Porthen makes ground and they have a penalty advantage on the 22. England could be in trouble here.

Not what England needed but there can be no argument! Willemse gathered a high kick and Freeman came screaming up. He never stooped and met Willemse’s head with his shoulder. He might be in trouble here actually. They’ll review. Could be a red. 50/50 for me.

71 min: Freeman melts Willemse but it always looked a touch high. It’s a penalty, but is it also a yellow card?

Siya Kolisi hails 'special human being' Tom Curry and what Springboks learned from World Cup semi-final

Springboks captain Siya Kolisi is looking forward to locking horns with old adversary Tom Curry when they face England in the Nations Championship at Ellis Park.

The two flankers are no strangers to playing on the big stage and both start on the openside for their respective team on Saturday, with Kolisi hugely respectful of Curry.

“He’s one of the toughest guys I’ve ever played against,” he praised.

“I remember since 2018, and then in the 2019 World Cup Final too. He is a special human being, and I love playing against him. Tomorrow’s going to be no different.”

Live: England stunned as DR Congo takes shock lead in Atlanta

The Round of 32 continues in North America, with England and DR Congo facing off in Atlanta.

Then, we travel to Seattle, where Belgium will lock horns with Senegal, before the US looks to become the third co-host to advance to the Round of 16 when they face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara

It's Jude Bellingham with the ball at his feet, angling in from the left.

His cross takes a big deflection and is flying towards goal, but Mpasi does excellently well to readjust his body and make a save at his near post.

Marcus Rashford, who has been one of England's best in North America, is running at a retreating DRC defence.

Who is Congo's goalie? Meet Lionel Mpasi, who is making England's life miserable

The Democratic Republic of the Congo was heavy underdogs against England in the first World Cup knockout game in the nation's history.

To stick around, Lionel Mpasi would have to be a giant in goal.

That included multiple unreal saves, including a stop with his midsection of Harry Kane just before halftime, as DR Congo clung to a 1-0 lead.

He was born to Congolese parents, and so he represents the country of his heritage at the international level.

His appearance in Wednesday's World Cup match is his 33rd cap for his country.

In his club career, Mpasi suits up for Le Havre in France's Ligue 1.

‘It’s a penalty!’ Kane accused of simulation as England desperately try peg back DR Congo lead

Harry Kane was ruled to have dived after he appealed for a first-half penalty against DR Congo in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash in Atlanta.

England were desperately trying to peg back a first-half deficit against the African outfit, who took a stunning seventh minute lead through Brian Cipenga, who fired past Jordan Pickford.

After a pulsating first-half from DR Congo, a desperate England were trying to chase the game and find an equaliser before the interval.

Kane surged into the box to chase a through ball and was felled by Lionel Mpasi in a rare lapse of judgement from the brilliant DR Congo goalkeeper, who plays for Le Havre in France.

Ravindra puts New Zealand in dominant position after England fail to take advantage

Things can change quickly in cricket. Just as England thought a reset had occurred with the win at Lord’s, only for a late night in Chelsea and defeat at the Oval to put paid to that notion, so the nature of the pitch lurched significantly on a gripping third day here.

Gone was the road on which the ball repeatedly raced across the parched outfield during the first two days and in its place – influenced by a slight drop in temperature and cloud cover – was a more capricious strip of earth. It offered lateral movement and inconsistent bounce, and led to 11 wickets falling.

Poms in deep strife as Kiwis mount fightback after Archer’s frightening blitz

Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten fifty revived New Zealand after Jofra Archer’s double strike gave England renewed hope of victory in the third and deciding Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

New Zealand, with the three-match series up for grabs at 1-1, were faltering at 2-12 in their second innings following fast bowler Archer’s two wickets after tea on the third day.

Jarell Quansah set to start as Thomas Tuchel weighs up three England changes

With Reece James missing at least the Three Lions' next two matches, Quansah is set to step in at right back.

Nico O'Reilly is also pushing to reclaim his spot at left-back at the expense of Djed Spence.

Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka believes he is ready to make his first start of the tournament after coming off the bench in the first two games.

The Three Lions face Panama in New Jersey on Saturday, with kick-off at 10pm live on talkSPORT.

A win will see them secure a place in the last 32 as group winners, barring a heavy defeat for Croatia against Ghana.

England handed injury blow during Panama clash as Thomas Tuchel gets World Cup nightmare

Jarell Quansah went off with an injury during England's 2026 FIFA World Cup clash against Panama

Thomas Tuchel's World Cup injury problems worsened after Jarell Quansah was forced of the field with an issue during the game against Panama. The Bayer Leverkusen defender had been filling in at right back after Reece James was ruled out due to injury.

Quansah limped from the field during the second period against Panama, to be replaced by Djed Spence. The England star quickly called for the physios to come onto the pitch after committing a foul.

The former Liverpool defender picked up a yellow card for his coming together with Jose Luis Rodriguez, but there will be greater concern for his condition given the Three Lions' limited full-back options. Spence is the squad's only remaining natural full-back on the right, but has been more regularly utilised on the left side of the pitch.

83rd over: New Zealand 354-2 (Nicholls 29, Ravindra 7) Archer moves round the wicket and forces Nicholls to play at a series of fullish, straight deliveries. Eventually Nicholls guides one into the off side for a single; that’s the only run in the last 17 balls, which supports the view that New Zealand have shut up shop for a night.

If either batter gets out before the close, they’ll be filthy. There are still hundreds of runs out there for New Zealand.

82nd over: New Zealand 353-2 (Nicholls 28, Ravindra 7) A maiden from Atkinson to Ravindra, who looks happy to play for the close and then try to fill his boots tomorrow.

Lord's star the odd man out as England recall four

Fit-again Ollie Robinson left out of series-deciding third Test against New Zealand

England have made four changes for their series decider against New Zealand but Ollie Robinson has been overlooked.

There were five changes and three debutants as they crashed to a 253-run defeat at The Oval last week, with Robinson the only one of the absent quintet not returning despite his player-of-the-match showing in the first Test.

17th over: New Zealand 60-0 (Latham 34, Conway 23) Four singles from this latest Bashir over, and he’s doing an OK job of keeping it tight.

“Positively imperial,” says Jim Frayling of Stokes’ new barnet. ‘Some might say Augustine, or indeed Octavian. It’ll be interesting to see if he goes on to destroy the triumvirate regime managing England men’s cricket. Et tu Bob?”

16th over: New Zealand 56-0 (Latham 32, Conway 21) I wonder what kind of exhibition masochism Ben Stokes will treat us to today; I imagine he’ll wait until NZ have more runs and it’s even hotter, but I reckon nine overs into the heat. Tongue goes around to Latham, and it occurs to me that the Barmy Army trumpeter needs to learn the below – from an album I was disappointed to discover contained only four bangers. Goodness me, I’d take that now. Anyhow, five more dots are followed by a Latham drive for two, during which time we learn Stokes is warming up.

Kane double fires England past Croatia in World Cup thriller

Harry Kane scores twice, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also net, as England beat Croatia 4-2 in 2026 opener.

Harry Kane scored twice in the first half as England eventually saw off Croatia 4-2 to launch their World Cup assault in Texas.

Jude Bellingham, immediately after half-time, and substitute Marcus Rashford with five minutes to go ensured a winning start for Thomas Tuchel’s side after Croatia had fought back to level at 2-2 in Wednesday’s game.

The prolific Kane twice put England ahead in the first half – one a retaken penalty – only for Martin Baturina and Petar Musa to hit back for 2018 runners-up Croatia.

Capsey and Knight’s mighty partnership guides England to T20 series win over India

England pulled off a statement run chase against India on Tuesday evening at Taunton, reaching their target of 181 with nine balls to spare thanks to a brilliant 137-run partnership from 76 balls between Alice Capsey and Heather Knight.

This was England’s highest successful T20 international run-chase in eight years and it could not have been more perfectly timed, providing the perfect confidence boost 10 days out from their World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on 12 June.

Charlotte Edwards, the head coach, said: “As games go, I don’t think it could have gone any more perfectly for us. We had to chase a big total playing against one of the best teams in the world, and we did it convincingly.”
