Intrigue seemed to be the overriding theme going into Sunday night's Transvision Vamp show at the King Street Bandroom.

After 35 years, the UK pop-rock sensation announced their reformation last year, with iconic frontwoman Wendy James at the helm alongside original bassist Dave Parsons.

The line-up was rounded out by new touring members, Thurston Moore collaborator Alex Ward (guitar), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' Jim Sclavunos (drums), and Matt Millership (keys).

Interestingly, Transvision Vamp chose Australia to host their first live shows since 1991, and Newcastle was the fourth gig of their comeback.

Review: Transvision Vamp @ The Triffid (Brisbane)

A rainy Thursday night in Brisbane didn't present any hurdles for the adoring throng.

Streams of fans poured in quicker than the clouds could release the rain. The neon reflections in the puddles created a scene like something out of a 1980s rock video. Same era rock-pop icons, Transvision Vamp always had a knack of getting a person off the couch and onto their dancing feet.

The eager crowd brought the same passion as they would no doubt have had during their younger years. The energy of teenagers with a small cassette tape deck stereo in the bedroom or parading at school 'civvies' days in their new Transvision Vamp t-shirt was palpable.

Wendy James returned to Sydney “dressed in pink” with her band Transvision Vamp and delivered a classic set of her 1980s pop punk classics including “I Want Your Love” and “Baby I Don’t Care”.

A packed Enmore Theatre reacted with enthusiasm, lead singer Wendy clearly enjoying the ride, the band was super tight and 80s nostalgia was back at the Enmore Theatre.

Fans outraged after Aussie company locks them out of concert: 'We are sorry'

Frustrated Australians are demanding answers after scores of would-be concertgoers were shut out of a major ticket sale. Across the country, customers say they were hit with a "restricted access" message before they could even check out — despite insisting they had done nothing wrong.

Last week, Australians flocked to Ticketek after European stars Robyn and Zara Larsson each announced shows to be held later in the year. But many missed out.

A spokesperson for Ticketek told Yahoo that, for the latter in particular, the platform experienced "exceptionally strong demand".

While technical hiccups during high-demand ticket sales aren’t unusual in Australia — and both Ticketek and Ticketmaster have faced criticism over similar issues in the past — many customers were furious after queueing for up to an hour, only to be locked out just as they reached the point of purchase.

‘A mess’: AFL fans angry over Optus Stadium ticket issue

Hundreds of footy fans were forced to watch the first moments of the AFL Origin blockbuster outside of Optus Stadium after a ticketing issue caused delays at gate entrances on Saturday afternoon.

More than 58,000 people descended on the stadium, ready to cheer on their home state as WA battled Victoria in the first State of Origin game in 27 years.

However, a recent change to ticketing meant the usually smooth process to enter Optus Stadium was anything but easy.

In January, Optus Stadium announced it would be rolling out a new enhanced digital ticketing system that involves near-field communication (NFC) technology and barcodes refreshing every 15 seconds.

NFL fans furious over Super Bowl commercial: ‘Should be illegal’

The Super Bowl had yet to kick off Sunday evening when some fans were already upset with one of the commercials.

Following the national anthem and before the start of the game, NBC cut to a commercial for “Scream 7″ — a horror film that is set to come out later this month.

Needless to say, people were not happy about an ad for a scary movie being shown as families tuned in for the Super Bowl.

"Showing a commercial for ‘Scream7′ at 5:30 pm right after the National Anthem and right before the Super Bowl kickoff should absolutely be illegal. So absurd,“ one fan said.

‘Scream 7’ Shouting To Mid $30Ms Opening At U.S. Box Office – Early Look

Paramount and Spyglass Media’s Scream 7 came on domestic tracking with a mid $30M opening in store when it arrives in theaters on Feb. 27. If those numbers hold, it could be the second highest opening in the 30-year-old franchise stateside after Scream VI‘s record $44.4M opening; that 2023 installment fueled by the Jenna Ortega Wednesday phenomenon.

Currently, Scream 7 is great with the 17-34 bunch and multicultural audiences across definite interest and first choice. Tickets don’t go on sale until Monday after the pic’s pre-Game Super Bowl spot. Advance ticket sales are typically a better indication of demand. Right now tracking has Scream 7 coming on higher than Scream VI, The Conjuring: Last Rites ($84M) and Final Destination: Bloodlines ($51.6M) in First Choice. There’s an argument that with lower grossing movies like Send Help and Iron Lung presently on tracking, most forecasts are inflated.

Two world No.1s who are chasing tennis history at the Australian Open capped a record-breaking opening day with straight-sets victories on Sunday night.

Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz did as expected in advancing to the second round, although their lower-profile opponents offered enough nuisance value to keep the Rod Laver Arena crowd – including Laver himself and Roger Federer – entertained.

Alcaraz can erase fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal’s record as the youngest man, at age 22, to win a career Grand Slam if he claims this year’s Open.

Ethan Hawke broke his foot as a teen crashing River Phoenix's dad's stolen motorcycle: 'It was a nightmare'

Ethan Hawke is remembering the time he broke his foot as a young teen crashing River Phoenix’s dad’s stolen motorcycle.

While visiting The Late Show on Monday, the Emmy-winning actor reflected on the hijinks that he and the late Phoenix would get up to while they were shooting their 1985 sci-fi film Explorers.

“A little bit after that picture, River and I stole his father’s motorcycle and I crashed it,” Hawke said, sending host Stephen Colbert into a fit of laughter. “The bike was fine, but my foot was broken.”

Still, the Lowdown star revealed that he didn’t seek medical attention for the agonizing injury until the next day so Phoenix wouldn't get in trouble for their unauthorized joy ride.

Ethan Hawke recalls painful incident from teenage years

Ethan Hawke shared a surprising story from his teenage years involving Hollywood friend River Phoenix and a stolen motorcycle.

During his recent appearance at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hawke recounted how a reckless ride ended with a broken foot and a memorable anecdote.

The Emmy-winning actor revealed her was 14 when he was joyriding on a motorcycle that didn't belong to him.

Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke's dad alongside his soon-to-be close friend River Phoenix were working on the Explorers (1985), a sci-fi adventure film.

“A little bit after that picture, River and I stole his father’s motorcycle and I crashed it,” Hawke told the host Colbert.

'Heated Rivalry' fans, we've got your next must-see MLM romance: 'Pillion'

Heated Rivalry has audiences hot and bothered and hungry for more. But it'll likely be two years before rival hockey pros Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) return with Season 2. So what are we to do until then?

Fans are split on this. Some will tell you to plunge into the source material, Rachel Reid's Game Changer book series, which offers several spicy, hockey-centered MLM novels. Others might suggest Ember & Ice, a Quinn audio erotica drop, which reunites Williams and Storrie as winged fairies yearning for each other. (It debuted so big, the app crashed.)

Still others will recommend the "gay fever dream" that is the Interview with the Vampire TV series, as it shares an enemies-to-lovers plotline and Ilya definitely has his Brat Prince moments. However, as a big fan of the Anne Rice-inspired series, I'll warn that Interview with the Vampire is much more about tragedy and trauma than it is queer joy. So, my top recommendation for those thirsting for more of a Heated Rivalry vibe would be the upcoming A24 offering Pillion.

Pillion Becomes Must-Watch for MLM Romance

If Heated Rivalry left you buzzing for more intense gay chemistry on the rink, A24’s Pillion is likely your next romance to keep an eye on. In a whip-smart, deeply sensual story of opposites-attract sparks that melds quickfire banter with kink-positive heat, the film will be irresistible to fans craving joy, heat, and heart in equal measures from these two unforgettable lovers.

Like the hockey melodrama’s rivals-turned-lovers, Pillion focuses on a pair of men who appear destined to butt heads: a quiet, dutiful son and an almost mythically self-assured blond heartthrob whose smirking grin is just this side of graceful. When they first get together, it’s a jolt that feels silly and clumsy and shockingly tender, replacing raw need with something sturdier, unexpectedly sweet.

Is Carly Rae Jepsen writing a song for 'Heated Rivalry'?

Heated Rivalry fans really, really, really, really would like it if Carly Rae Jepsen would write them a song!

Jacob Tierney, who created the popular Canadian hockey romance show, has expressed interest in working with Canadian pop idol on the upcoming second season.

"I have a list of dream songs that I would like very much to find a way [to include]," Tierney said on the podcast What Chaos!, per Vulture.

When asked if that list of dream songs includes anything by iconic "Call Me Maybe" singer, Tierney said he "didn't even try" to get her for the first season due to budgetary restrictions, but "she was on my playlist for when I wrote."

Stranger Things 5: The internet thinks this fan has cracked the final episode's plot twist

The final episode of Stranger Things is hours away, and fans are going into overdrive with their theories on how the hit sci-fi Netflix series will end.

Although Volume 2, released on December 26, hasn't received the best reaction, with viewers theorising that some scenes had been cut out from the three new episodes.

There is even a petition, which now has over 350,000 signatures, with fans demanding that this "unseen footage" should be released.

But now there's a new theory going viral, which suggests there is a narrative purpose for this, and all will be revealed in the big finale.

"Y'all don't understand this very well could be and is looking like the best fourth wall break in television," said TikToker @in_the_west_7, who believes she's cracked the finale plot.
