Sydney: For Dilrabo Asadova, the key to Uzbekistan’s run to the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ has been a simple but effective approach – taking things one match at a time.
Returning to the continental stage for the first time in 23 years, the Central Asian side faced consecutive defeats at the hands of reigning champions China PR and three-time winners DPR Korea. But the Kotryna Kulbyte-led side lived up to their team motto of treating each day as a chance to create something special and recorded a stunning 4-0 win against debutants Bangladesh to book their knockout stage ticket.

History-makers Uzbekistan dream big at Women's Asian Cup

History-making Uzbekistan are targeting a major upset against South Korea in the Women's Asian Cup quarter-finals, with coach Kotryna Kulbyte on Friday urging her players to keep dreaming big.

The two sides clash in Sydney on Saturday with direct qualification to the 2027 World Cup in Brazil guaranteed for the winner.

While South Korea — the 2022 Asian runners-up — are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the knockout rounds, it is a first for the Uzbeks.

"There's always the danger of getting too emotional but it's part of the game. If you don't live and appreciate the moment, then there's no point," she said.

Women's Asian Cup tiers: Every participating nation, ranked

With four goals to her name already, ESPN's The Far Post laud Alanna Kennedy's move into the midfield and how her goalscoring is helping the Matildas. (1:40)

The Women's Asian Cup is moving into the knockout stage where 12 teams become eight, and every game is must win. Progression through the tournament isn't the only thing on the line either, with these next few games determining Women's World Cup qualification as well.

But the group stage concluding is the perfect time to assess how every team — still in contention and eliminated — is placed.

Not just a great piece of baseball media, it's the most apt description for Japan so far this tournament. Yes, the context of their group should be noted; they played three games for three wins, three clean sheets, and 17 goals scored. Their FIFA ranking? Eight. Their group opponent with the next closest ranking? Chinese Taipei at 40.

Women's freeski halfpipe final postponed due to heavy snow

Steady snow forced a one-day postponement to the women's freeski halfpipe final, the last Winter Olympic event due to take place in the Alpine town of Livigno, Italy, organizers said.

The event was moved from Saturday evening (1:30 p.m. ET) to Sunday morning (4:40 a.m. ET).

Snow fell for several hours throughout men's ski cross, which limited visibility and slowed skiers on the slopes. Livigno is located in northern Italy near the border with Switzerland.

China's Eileen Gu, a San Francisco native, is set to defend her gold medal in the halfpipe when the event gets underway. Other top contenders include qualifiers leader Zoe Atkin of Britain and China's Li Fanghui.

No event is safe. Even indoor curling has been delayed by bad weather in Italy

Curling, yes curling, was delayed Thursday by bad weather conditions in Cortina, Italy.

Heavy snow has repeatedly pushed back a number of Winter Olympic events this week — not an uncommon byproduct of holding outdoor sporting events during the winter.

The men's aerials competition had been scheduled for Thursday morning but will now be held on Friday. Men's freeski halfpipe qualifiers was also taken off the schedule. Freestyle ski was pushed back to later in the day.

The start of Thursday's women's curling matches were pushed back nearly 30 minutes. The indoor event had to be delayed because teams struggled to get to the venue on time because of the snow.

Australia's last medal hope at the Milano Cortina Winter Games, Indra Brown, was forced to wait a little longer for her crack at a maiden Olympic podium finish.

Heavy and consistent snowfall in Livigno meant that the women's freeski halfpipe was moved from its original time of 5:30am AEDT to 8:40pm Sunday evening, with organisers unable to "prepare the pipe in a safe and fair condition".

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and opted to bowl in the WPL 2026 final against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vadodara. Both teams were unchanged.

Mandhana pointed to chasing being the trend in the tournament as the reason behind her decision. Including the final, only once in 22 matches in this tournament has the team winning the toss chosen to bat first. DC captain Jemimah Rodrigues said she wanted to bowl first too, but felt it was "better to lose the toss in such games".

Despite high-quality matches, Senegal’s meeting with hosts Morocco may pale with the World Cup looming

Sometimes a tournament’s greatest strength can be its greatest weakness. In part because of the excellent playing conditions, this has been an Africa Cup of Nations devoid of shocks. The better teams keep winning. There has been a lot of good football, but not a huge amount of memorable football.

And the consequence is that, in the final, we have the two best teams, or certainly the best team in north Africa against the best team in sub-Saharan Africa: the hosts and World Cup semi-finalists Morocco against Senegal, who have reached three of the past four Afcon finals.

Bobby Emmanuel, Sam Ogunleye and Ed Dove make their predictions for the AFCON final as Senegal face hosts Morocco. (2:13)

One month of compelling African football reaches its climax in Rabat on Sunday, as Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco face off with Senegal to determine the winners of the 35th edition of the AFCON.

The final – which is as many people had predicted – brings together the two highest placed teams in the FIFA World Rankings, where Morocco are 11th and Senegal are 19th, and will see a collision between arguably the two biggest success stories in the continent's game over the last ten years.

‘The Beethoven of our day’: Fans on what David Bowie meant to them 10 years after his death

At the annual gathering at the Starman memorial in south London devotees talk about the immense impact the artist’s life and death had on them

For Debbie Hilton, David Bowie meant “everything”. “My house is a shrine to him. He’s still alive in my house. My Christmas tree was David Bowie, even my bedding is Bowie,” she said.

She travelled from Liverpool to join her fellow Bowie devotees at the Starman memorial in Brixton, south London, where the singer was born, to pay their respects on the anniversary of his death.

The gathering has become a site of annual pilgrimage for some, but this year larger than usual crowds amassed to mark 10 years since the artist’s passing.

Iman has honoured her late husband David Bowie with a new tattoo.

The legendary singer died following an 18-month private battle with liver cancer on January 10, 2016, aged 69.

Iman marked the 10th anniversary of his passing by getting the five minimalist rune-like black shapes from the bottom of his final album, Blackstar, inked on her forearm.

The 70-year-old model posted a video on social media of the moment she got the tattoo – of which the shapes abstractly spell out "BOWIE".

Phew, my sequin-spangled friends. What a final. What a worthy winner. That concludes tonight’s livebloggery-pokery but thanks for being such wise, witty, wonderful company all series.

Don’t go getting dance withdrawal symptoms just yet. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman take their final bow in the Christmas Special at 5.30pm on Christmas Day. There won’t be a full liveblog because, probably like you, I’ll be face down in a pile of Paxo and pigs-in-blankets. However, we will publish an article and have an open comments thread, so our sparkly community can discuss the action live and wish each other a glittery Christmas. ‘Landman’ Renewed For Season 3 At Paramount+

Amid solid ratings, Landman will be back for another round. Paramount+ has renewed Taylor Sheridan‘s hit oil drama series for a third season.

Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.

In Season 2, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets – and Tommy Norris’s (Billy Bob Thornton) breaking point may be closer than he realizes. Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller (Demi Moore), and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble – it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.

"Landman," "Platonic" & More TV Renewals

A bunch of TV renewals have been handed out in the past day or so. First up there’s Taylor Sheridan’s oil drilling series “Landman,” starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, which has been picked up for a third season.

The renewal comes as the second season is still in the midst of airing, the season premiere nabbing 9.2 million views worldwide over its first few days – more than triple its first season debut.

Final Score Predictions For Atlanta Hawks vs Utah Jazz

The Atlanta Hawks might be on the second night of a back-to-back, but they are playing very well coming into tonight's game vs the Utah Jazz. Atlanta has won three in a row, with two of those in blowout fashion, and they will will look to not only extend their winning streak to four, but move to 3-0 on their current four game road trip.

The big question for the Hawks, as with any team on the second night of a back to back, is who will end up playing tonight. They finally got Nickeil Alexander-Walker back after a brief absence, but the status of players like Kristaps Porzingis and Jalen Johnson are going to be something to track.
