Sometimes a tournament’s greatest strength can be its greatest weakness. In part because of the excellent playing conditions, this has been an Africa Cup of Nations devoid of shocks. The better teams keep winning. There has been a lot of good football, but not a huge amount of memorable football.
And the consequence is that, in the final, we have the two best teams, or certainly the best team in north Africa against the best team in sub-Saharan Africa: the hosts and World Cup semi-finalists Morocco against Senegal, who have reached three of the past four Afcon finals.

One month of compelling African football reaches its climax in Rabat on Sunday, as Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco face off with Senegal to determine the winners of the 35th edition of the AFCON.
The final – which is as many people had predicted – brings together the two highest placed teams in the FIFA World Rankings, where Morocco are 11th and Senegal are 19th, and will see a collision between arguably the two biggest success stories in the continent's game over the last ten years.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) and technical supplier PUMA have unveiled a special commemorative version of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Official Match Ball, ITRI, for Sunday’s showpiece final.Hosts Morocco will take on Senegal in the decider at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah (kick-off 20h00 local time / 19h00 GMT), where one will be crowned the new champions of Africa.
They will play with a special edition of the Official Match Ball, featuring gold accents as a tribute to the two finalist teams.The ball that has been used during the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025, features a striking design that incorporates traditional Moroccan zellij geometric patterns, characterised by central star geometry, floral petal outlines and circular symmetry.
