Key forward rejects rival interest to pen long-term deal at Hawks

Mitch Lewis has signed a new four year-extension to remain in brown and gold

HAWTHORN has received a huge boost with key forward Mitch Lewis signing a new deal at the Hawks.

The free agent had received plenty of interest from rival clubs, but has signed a new four-year deal, tying him to the Hawks until the end of 2030.

The new deal for Lewis comes after veteran Jack Gunston signed a one-year extension to play on for an 18th season.

The focus will now turn to another free agent, Gold Coast spearhead Ben King, who has had interest from the Hawks and is yet to decide on his playing future.

Ben King set to leave the Suns for Hawks in a stunning about-face

Mitch Lewis is set to line up alongside Ben King in brown and gold next year, knocking back interest from other clubs to recommit to Hawthorn despite the recruitment of another key forward.

Clubs such as Collingwood had hoped that Hawthorn’s pursuit of King could’ve persuaded Lewis to have his head turned by rival offers. But two competition sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking anonymously, have confirmed the 27-year-old has told the club he will stay with the two parties putting the final touches on a long-term deal.

Hawthorn’s list management believes Lewis – an athletic marking forward – can play further up the ground, which would allow King to lead out of the goal square. The Hawks’ forward line will also include Jack Gunston for at least another season after the evergreen 34-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year deal. He has kicked 40 goals in 12 games so far this season, off the back of a career-high 73 last year.

Mavericks' crucial starting lineup change is staring Jason Kidd in the face

The Dallas Mavericks fell short on Christmas Day versus the Golden State Warriors by a score of 126-116, as Anthony Davis exited the game in the second quarter with a groin injury and didn’t return, but the main silver lining from this game was Brandon Williams’ performance.

Williams has strung together some solid basketball recently, and given rookie Ryan Nembhard’s up-and-down play through the last handful of games, perhaps Dallas could look at re-inserting Williams into the starting lineup.

Williams had 26 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, helping keep the Mavericks within striking distance because of his finishing and his ability to get in the lane and draw fouls. While 3-point shooting has been a sore spot for Williams this season, he banked in the only 3-pointer he took in this game, and he hit multiple long twos off the dribble.

Jason Kidd’s controversial starting five move was exactly what Mavericks needed

Jason Kidd unexpectedly inserted Naji Marshall into the Dallas Mavericks’ starting lineup after P.J. Washington rolled his right ankle on a basketball right before Dallas took on the LA Clippers last month. This was a freak injury, and while Marshall starting made sense to fans for the four games that Washington missed, he continued to start even once Washington returned.

Kidd sent Max Christie to the bench to keep Marshall in the starting unit, and this move was definitely viewed as controversial when it happened. Christie had been one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA all season long, and fans feared that this new-look starting five of Marshall, Ryan Nembhard, Washington, Cooper Flagg, and Anthony Davis wouldn’t have enough shooting.

Phoenix Suns Add Superstar Forward in Wild Trade Proposal

The Phoenix Suns decided to end the Kevin Durant experiment over the summer. They decided to trade him to the Houston Rockets. It was an acknowledgement that things were not working out between the team and the star forward.

Since making that trade, the Suns have started playing much better basketball. Right now, they sit seventh in the Western Conference standings. They seem to have better chemistry for whatever reason. Yet, they have some ammunition to make a bigger trade if they want.

One wild trade proposal from Bleacher Report has the Suns making a big trade for Zion Williamson.

Why The Phoenix Suns Should Take A Risk And Acquire Zion Williamson

The Phoenix Suns underwent a massive shift this offseason. By trading Kevin Durant and waiving Bradley Beal, the Suns effectively ended their “Big Three” era, opting instead to retool around Devin Booker. Although this put them in a position to be perceived as one of the weaker teams in the Western Conference, the team has surpassed expectations.

With a 14-12 record, the Phoenix Suns are currently placed seventh in the Western Conference standings. Given that they are only 2.5 games outside of the Minnesota Timberwolves in sixth place, the Suns could realistically assert themselves as a playoff contender this season.

Keeping their position in mind, the Suns could take an alternative approach to the season and commit to securing a playoff berth. To facilitate this, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley presented a swap deal, sending Zion Williamson to the Suns in exchange for Jalen Green.
