    HAWTHORN will request an explanation from the AFL following a disallowed goal from exciting forward Nick Watson on the half-time bell in Thursday night's 52-point win over St Kilda.

    Running in for a set shot after the second-quarter siren, Watson – and the rest of the stadium – believed he had kicked the Hawks' ninth consecutive goal to open the match, but it was overturned, with umpires calling 'play on' before he kicked the ball, having deemed he ran off his line.

    ‘Extraordinary error’: AFL world ‘baffled’ by no-goal as Hawks issue please explain

    The AFL has ticked off the controversial umpiring decision that disallowed Nick Watson’s goal on the eve of half-time on Thursday night.

    Before arriving for his high-stakes summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, United States President Donald Trump aimed to set expectations high.

    He said he would urge Xi to “open up” China’s economy and announced a delegation of top business executives, including Tesla’s Elon Musk, Apple’s Tim Cook and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, to accompany him.

    As Trump and Xi prepare to wrap up two days of meetings on Friday, the expectations among observers generally are modest at best.

    A passenger has been banned from future Qantas travel after a plane travelling on a long-haul flight from Australia to the US was diverted at the weekend after the man allegedly bit a flight attendant.

    The QF21 flight left Melbourne at 2.30pm on Friday en route to Dallas and was diverted to Papeete in Tahiti seven hours later when the behaviour of the disruptive passenger forced it to land.

    Passengers and other crew came to the assistance of the attendant during the alleged assault, a Qantas spokesperson said.

    A Qantas plane travelling from Melbourne to Dallas was briefly diverted to Tahiti over the weekend to remove a man who allegedly bit a flight attendant.

    Comedian and TV personality Mike Goldstein posted an Instagram video which appeared to show part of the incident, including a man stumbling into a toilet door and arguing with airline staff.

    Fellow passengers and crew members rushed to help the staff member who was allegedly attacked by the man during the 18-hour QF21 flight. This masthead understands no serious injuries were caused.

    The plane was forced to divert briefly to Tahiti’s capital city of Papeete, where the man was taken off the aircraft, met by local authorities and issued a no-fly ban by Qantas.

    The Kevin Hart Roast Was Proof that Celebrity Roasts are Cooked

    The concept of mocking public figures dates back to ancient times, but the modern, structured celebrity roast originated as a way for entertainers to pay tribute to one another through insults. The Friars Club started roasting notable members of its showbiz fraternity in 1950 and kept it up for over 60 years; in 1973, Dean Martin started doing Friars-style roast segments on his weekly TV variety show, which led to a series of boozy specials that ran for ten years. The 21st-century roast was born in 2003, when roastmaster Jeff Garlin led a raunchy tribute to Denis Leary that became the most-watched show in Comedy Central history. The network began to produce many more roasts, of everyone from Joan Rivers to Larry the Cable Guy, then got out of the game in 2019, after an installment (hosted by future podcast millionaire Sean Hayes) that aimed the slings and arrows at Alec Baldwin.

    Today, Gauff cooked up masterful shotmaking to return to the Rome final.

    Riding a six-game surge, Gauff defeated Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-2 to roll into her second straight Rome final. 

    The 22-year-old Gauff is the youngest American since her former doubles partner Venus Williams (1998-99) to reach the Rome final in successive seasons.

    Reigning Roland Garros champion Gauff will face a former Rome champion—either three-time champion Iga Swiatek or two-time champion Elina Svitolina—in the final. Gauff is 2-3 lifetime vs. Svitolina and 5-11 vs. Swiatek, but she has won their last four meetings in a row.

    Sydney has moved its annual Pride Game away from a clash against St Kilda

    THE ROUND 13 match between Sydney and St Kilda will no longer be designated a 'Pride Game' amid the fallout from the Lance Collard Tribunal case earlier this year.

    The Swans and Saints were due to play in the Pride Game at the SCG on Sunday June 7, an annual event that sees the game celebrate and stand united with LGBTIQA+ communities.

    But the recent case of Collard, who was found guilty of using a homophobic slur towards an opponent – a charge he and the Saints strongly deny – has led to the decision to remove the Pride Game designation from the Swans-Saints clash.
