Live: Young gun to debut for Roosters against Dolphins

Round 15 of the NRL season continues on Friday night with the Dolphins hosting the Sydney Roosters at Lang Park.

Both teams are under strength given their heavy State of Origin representation, but the Tricolours will hand an NRL debut to young gun Rex Bassingthwaighte.

Bassingthwaite, a former schoolboy rugby star, was man of the match in this year's SG Ball grand final and has been earmarked as the long-term replacement for Roosters skipper James Tedesco.

Bears poach rising Rabbitohs gun in big coup, halves twist; Panthers block stars’ free agency bid

The Perth Bearshave reportedly signed South Sydney halfback Jamie Humphreys in a massive coup that completes a starting 19 for the club in 2027.

The Daily Telegraph reported the incoming NRL franchised has poached the 24-year-old after he failed to reach an agreement on an extension with the Rabbitohs.

Watch every game of every round of the Premiership Season LIVE with no ad-breaks during play on FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports | New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1.

Humphreys could form a halves partnership at the Bears with Toby Sexton, with fellow recruit Tyran Wishart tipped to play hooker.

Perth Bears lock in star player

The Perth Bears have continued to build their inaugural roster, securing playmaker Jamie Humphreys on a deal from 2027 in what shapes as another significant signing for the NRL's newest franchise.

Still just 24 years old, Humphreys has emerged as one of the more promising playmakers in the competition after making his NRL debut with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2024 before joining the South Sydney Rabbitohs the following season.

The Daily Telegraph revealed the move on Friday morning, although the length and value of Humphreys' contract remain unclear.

While Humphreys is predominantly in the halves, his ability to comfortably slot into hooker gives Bears coach Mal Meninga valuable flexibility alongside fellow utility playmaker Tyran Wishart.

NRL fans divided as South Sydney star on cusp of signing three-year deal with rival club

Rabbitohs fans are heavily divided amid news that halfback Jamie Humphreys is “very, very close” to signing with the Perth Bears for 2027. The 24-year-old has played 24 games for Souths since arriving at the club from Manly in 2025.

He was one of the Rabbitohs’ best last year in a season that was wrecked by injuries, although he too spent a significant time on the sidelines. Rabbitohs fans thought they’d found their long-term halfback, however his future at the club has been thrown into doubt in recent months.

The big-money signing of Payne Haas from the Broncos has created a salary cap squeeze at Souths, who haven’t been able to offer Humphreys as much money as he’d like. He’s also seemingly been leap-frogged by young gun Ashton Ward in the race to wear the No.7 jersey long term.

Make your peace with God and fly!

I remember going to see the film ‘Top Gun’ back in 1986 with some university pals in Colchester, UK.

It was not because I was really that interested in military matters (ironically my first job would be a discharge clerk at a military prison!), but rather because I was overwhelmingly outvoted by the other guys against the sci-fi thriller Aliens, which was what I really wanted to see.

But I went anyway because they wanted to see it. Besides, at that time I was a weekend DJ and all anyone could ask me to spin (vinyl 45s back then) was the hit title song from the film soundtrack ‘Take My Breath Away’ by Berlin.

Former Wallabies captain and proud Papua New Guinean Will Genia is open to working with the PNG Chiefs – in any capacity – as he plots his next move after almost a decade in Japan.

After retiring last year, Genia will also finish up as skills coach with the Kintetsu Liners at the end of the Japanese season.

Panthers sign another halfback as Nathan Cleary weighs up whether he'll leave NRL club

The Penrith Panthers have reportedly signed a gun halfback out of the clutches of rugby union, and many are questioning whether they could be planning for life without Nathan Cleary. Panthers superstar Cleary is off contract at the end of 2027, meaning he'd hit the free agency market on November 1 this year unless Penrith re-sign him before then.

The Panthers are desperate to lock down the 28-year-old on a long-term extension, but Cleary has stated he's open to testing the open market and exploring what might be out there. The halfback has only ever played for the Panthers, but some have claimed he could earn $2 million per year on the open market.

Billy Slater explains the 'huge attraction' that could land PNG its golden goose

NRL legend Billy Slater believes the Papua New Guinea Chiefs will be an incredibly attractive option for Nathan Cleary, and could see him pocket an extra $2m per season.

This is because the player salaries in PNG will be tax free. If he earns $2.5m per season without tax, it would be the equivalent of a $4.5m salary on Aussie soil.

The Penrith champion is contracted until the end of the 2027 season, with the Chiefs set to enter the NRL in 2028.

St George Illawarra forward Loko Pasifiki Tonga has requested a release from the club, as he looks to explore opportunities elsewhere in search of consistent NRL football.

Sources have told ESPN that the 20-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated with his lack of first-grade opportunities, prompting the young forward to seek permission to speak with rival clubs.

Despite being viewed internally as a promising middle-forward option, Tonga has struggled to cement a spot in the Dragons' top squad rotation this season, with competition for places limiting his pathway into the NRL side.

Rogers: The reasons behind young Dragon's shock request

SEN's Mat Rogers has revealed the reasons behind young Dragon Loko Pasifiki Tonga's shock request to negotiate with rival clubs.

Pasifiki Tonga is considered a rising star of the game but is yet to make an appearance in first grade this season, instead playing three games in reserve grade, averaging 179 metres a game.

The 20-year-old made 10 appearances for the Dragons in 2025, but an inability to crack the first-grade squad, and a lack of coaching and direction regarding his future, has contributed to the prop's release request.

Rogers owns Rogers Sports Management, who represent Pasifiki Tonga, however, the forward is not Rogers' direct client.

According to the store's Facebook page, the fire started in the big range before spreading into the small range around 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 5 on the 600 block of Easton Road.

Both ranges sustained extensive damage, but everyone was able to get out safely, the store said.

Fire destroys part of Clayton's Range & Shop in Horsham, Pennsylvania

A fire at an indoor shooting range in Horsham, Pennsylvania, forced firefighters into a difficult and dangerous fight, complicated by ammunition inside the building.

Crews were called to Easton Road in Horsham just after 2:30 p.m. Monday, and the road remained closed for hours as crews worked to get the scene under control.

At the scene of the fire, employees of Clayton's Range & Shop stood in the cold, watching firefighters work to save what they could from a business many said has been a staple in the area for decades. The small business is now in ruins.

"It was a small, family business," said Dave Swindell, who works nearby.
