Former Wallabies captain and proud Papua New Guinean Will Genia is open to working with the PNG Chiefs – in any capacity – as he plots his next move after almost a decade in Japan.
After retiring last year, Genia will also finish up as skills coach with the Kintetsu Liners at the end of the Japanese season.
Panthers sign another halfback as Nathan Cleary weighs up whether he'll leave NRL club
The Penrith Panthers have reportedly signed a gun halfback out of the clutches of rugby union, and many are questioning whether they could be planning for life without Nathan Cleary. Panthers superstar Cleary is off contract at the end of 2027, meaning he'd hit the free agency market on November 1 this year unless Penrith re-sign him before then.
The Panthers are desperate to lock down the 28-year-old on a long-term extension, but Cleary has stated he's open to testing the open market and exploring what might be out there. The halfback has only ever played for the Panthers, but some have claimed he could earn $2 million per year on the open market.

Billy Slater explains the 'huge attraction' that could land PNG its golden goose
NRL legend Billy Slater believes the Papua New Guinea Chiefs will be an incredibly attractive option for Nathan Cleary, and could see him pocket an extra $2m per season.
This is because the player salaries in PNG will be tax free. If he earns $2.5m per season without tax, it would be the equivalent of a $4.5m salary on Aussie soil.
The Penrith champion is contracted until the end of the 2027 season, with the Chiefs set to enter the NRL in 2028.
