Slow Horses Delivers an Angsty Fight in ‘Lost and Found’

If last week’s “Resurrection” gave us Sid and River in a moment of brief (and significant) casual intimacy, then of course this week’s episode of Slow Horses would double down on the angst. Because a huge part of the appeal in their dynamic is how they consistently push each other’s buttons and, at times, legitimately fumble. There’s a lot to appreciate about this because the ugly parts of a dynamic—so long as they’re healthy like this and properly communicated—are a fundamental part of relationship growth.

The thing about River and Sid is that they know each other. Well and truly. Or, at least as best as two people in their position could. It’s impossible to trust people in this line of work, but the way they trust each other is on a deeper level that neither of them has fully processed the scope of. That’s why he can notice that her hands are shaking, and they have been since she’s returned. That’s why she can call him out when he doesn’t think and undermines her agency. The comfort and ease with which they can be fully transparent with each other is exactly why they’d be such a good match if they could just give in to everything that’s between them.

Nobody on TV runs quite like Jack Lowden. It’s that mixture of precision and panic that he brings to it: The sense that he could keep going, Jason Bourne-style, for half a mile without his hands shaking, mixed with the profound sense that he’d be on the verge of crapping himself in terror the entire way. Lowden running, in the guise of World’s Worst Spy River Cartwright, has been a motif throughout Slow Horses’ six-season run, from the very first scene of its very first episode, all the way through the final one of this week’s mid-season installment. And the most important thing about River Cartwright running, it turns out, is that the poor bastard never actually gets to where he’s going.

Slow Horses season six review – it gets harder to enjoy Gary Oldman’s spy thriller every year

The show’s creator has gone, it’s been retooled as a conventional thriller and it feels like it’s starting to run out of ideas – even if it’s as slick and confident as ever

This is a new Slow Horses: season six is the first not to be guided by Will Smith, a writer whose previous work on The Thick of It and Veep explained why this espionage saga had an unusually sharp comic tongue. The absence of Smith’s drollery is discernible in a more straight-faced new story, but the bigger problem is one of a creative work naturally eroding over time. Slow Horses is now old.

'Slow Horses' Season 8 Coming To Apple TV After Emmy Win

Fresh off yet another Emmy win, Slow Horses will be returning for an eighth season.

Season 8 of the hit Apple TV show starring Gary Oldman will begin production shortly and will be based on the ninth book of Mick Herron’s “Slough House” series, titled Clown Town.

The news comes with Season 6 of one of Apple TV’s most popular shows launching September 16, while a seventh season, based on Herron’s Bad Actors, has already been announced.

Logline for Season 8 says it will see Jackson Lamb (Oldman) and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.

‘Slow Horses’ Renewed for Season 8 at Apple TV

“Slow Horses” has been renewed for an eighth season at Apple TV following the spy thriller’s Emmy win for outstanding directing in a drama series.

The six-episode Season 8 is adapted from “Clown Town,” the ninth book in Mick Herron’s “Slough House” series. Gary Oldman, who was nominated for lead actor in a drama series at the Emmys, will return as the grumpy yet lovable Jackson Lamb.

Season 8 “sees Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) face off in their most explosive confrontation yet,” according to its synopsis. “When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.”

‘Slow Horses’ Star Gary Oldman Reveals That “Spies Love This Show”

“I’m not very good at putting my feet up and kicking back,” Gary Oldman tells me. That’s clear. He’s one of the finest actors of his generation, with the versatile résumé to prove it: Sid Vicious, Dracula, Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirius Black, Herman Mankiewicz, Winston Churchill. (Not to mention his Emmy-nominated guest-star turn on Friends.) But Oldman’s most delightful role to date is his current one: Jackson Lamb on the Apple TV British spy series Slow Horses. Vanity Fair caught up with Oldman, who is as genial as his character is curmudgeonly, ahead of the show’s season six premiere on September 16.

Slow Horses: Season 6 review: A masterclass in brutal thrills and caustic comedy

Slow Horses has never been rooted in the cheeriest of premises. Far from the silky-smooth glamorous heroics of Bond, it follows an MI5 offshoot based at Slough House, where the Secret Service’s least-prized agents are shipped off to languish. Led by the cantankerous and flatulent Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), its motley crew includes spy nepo baby River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), banished there in disgrace and forever trying to redeem himself. Over five seasons we’ve watched them bleed, grieve and stumble through one calamity after another. But even with that low bar for winning streaks, Season 6 is a particularly bruising affair.

Santa Ragione says Epic "ghosted" them and made "provably incorrect statements"

Epic Games has disputed it made "provably incorrect statements" to Horses developer Santa Ragione, insisting feedback was provided when it concluded the horror game breached the Epic Game Store's content guidelines and could not be listed for sale.

Italian developer Santa Ragione stated in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz in December that it was facing closure after Valve said it would not host its upcoming horror title Horses on Steam. A few days later, Epic Games Store also withdrew support for the provocative game.

Now, following an interview with Game File in which Epic Games VP Steve Allison talked about "loving" Santa Ragione's work, the indie developer accused Epic of "ghosting" it and failing to provide the Adults Only certificate to the team.
