US businesses risk hefty tax bills as thousands of their H-1B workers remain stranded in India because of months-long visa interview delays, complicating remote work options.

The State Department rescheduled the workers’ visa interview appointments after abruptly imposing extensive new social media screening policies, delaying the US return of people who traveled to India to visit relatives.

The Trump administration has put new fees and other barriers on a visa program popular among Indian engineers working in the US.

Kunal Bahl returned to India in 2007 after failing to secure an H-1B visa.

Two decades ago, Kunal Bahl almost achieved the American dream. The India-born engineer earned an MBA at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, then an internship at Microsoft Corp. That position led to an invitation to have dinner with Bill Gates at his house, and later to a full-time job at the tech giant. But the dream unraveled in 2007, when Bahl’s H-1B visa application was rejected. At 23 he packed his bags and returned to his home country. “My heart sank when I got word,” he says. “Such decisions are one-sided and irreversible.”

Suryakumar Yadav won the toss in the third T20I against New Zealand in Guwahati, and elected to bowl first with dew expected to play a role. India were looking to close out the five-match series after having won the first two games. They were gunning for an 11th series or tournament win in a row, which includes the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Asia Cup 2025.

India made two changes, giving rest to Varun Chakravarthy and Arshdeep Singh. They brought in Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi, who last played for India in February 2025. It meant Axar Patel, who cut his index finger during the first T20I, continued to sit out. In the absence of a communication from the BCCI, it might be safe to assume it might be more preventive than forced.

India made two changes to their XI. Axar Patel, who hurt his finger during the first T20I in Nagpur, was a forced absentee, while Jasprit Bumrah was rested. In came Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana. Rana's inclusion allowed India to continue having batting cushion at No. 8.

New Zealand made three changes. Tim Seifert came in for Tim Robinson, Zak Foulkes for Kristian Clarke, and Matt Henry for Kyle Jamieson.

Welcome to Sportstar’s highlights from the second T20I between India and New Zealand at Raipur. This was Anish Pathiyil taking you through all the action.

India broke Pakistan’s record for the fastest ever 200-plus run chase in T20I Internationals as it chased down 209 runs against New Zealand in Raipur on Friday.

When New Zealand managed to remove Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in the first two overs of the chase, it felt like this could be the day that exposes the chink in India’s batting armour. But it was anything but that. Ishan Kishan’s stunning counterattack and Surya’s return-to-form knock has taken the side to a dominant win. A couple of contentious bowling changes, including the one involving Foulkes and Henry. A few dropped catches hastening the win as well. But, the bottomline is India has thrown a gauntlet down to the other teams that scores of 200 will not be enough against this batting line-up. It will have to be all-or-nothing cricket!

IND vs NZ: Ishan Kishan channels inner Rishabh Pant, sends bat flying in Rapiur

Ishan Kishan channelled his inner Rishabh Pant and sent the bat flying during the second T20I against New Zealand on Friday, January 23. Kishan came into bat with India in all sorts of trouble as they lost Sanju Samson in the very first over and then Abhishek Sharma in the very next over, while chasing 209 runs to win the match.

Kishan didn't get off to the best of starts in the first match as he was dismissed for eight runs. He was out to make the most of his opportunity in the second match and started to attack the Blackcaps bowler. He took apart Zak Foulkes in the third over with 24 coming off it. The next over saw him take on Jacob Duffy and hit a couple more boundaries.

After three low scores, three tosses lost and three heavy defeats, Sri Lanka gave hosts India more of a fight in the fourth T20I on Sunday when they finally got to chase a target instead of setting one.
