Shafali Verma on her knock in the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka (1:36)

Two matches, two big wins. India have stamped their authority on the series, outclassing Sri Lanka across departments. On both occasions, the top order has taken control of modest chases set up by a ruthless bowling unit picking up wickets in clusters. After a few lapses in the field in the opening T20I, India tightened up in the second, leaving little room for error.

Sri Lanka, clearly, have found the going tough. While a handful of batters managed to get starts in both games, there was a visible lack of intent resulting in sub-130 totals. Their bowlers, too, struggled to extract help from the surface with dew not helping matters. With several changes made to the squad and several youngsters drafted in, this series marks a phase of transition for Sri Lanka. The onus is now on the new faces to seize their opportunities and push their case ahead of next year's T20 World Cup starting June 12.

India will look to tighten their grip on the five-match T20I series when they take on Sri Lanka in the second game in Visakhapatnam, having cruised to a comprehensive win in the opener. Dominant with ball and bat but sloppy in the field on Sunday, the hosts once again underlined the gap between the two sides – they have now won eight of their last ten T20Is against Sri Lanka – though they dropped five catches on Sunday.

India v SA T20 abandoned because of 'excessive fog'

The fourth T20 between India and South Africa was abandoned on Wednesday because of "excessive fog" at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

The toss was scheduled to take place at 13:00 GMT but did not even take place as the umpires called the match off at about 16:00 following a number of inspections.

India all-rounder Hardik Pandaya was seen wearing a mask on the pitch before the match, which raised questions about the pollution levels in Lucknow, which is in northern India.

The air quality index, external was about 400 at around the scheduled start time of the match – a reading considered to be hazardous.

India went back to losing the toss under a new captain in the first T20I against South Africa, after winning the toss in the series decider in the ODIs. As expected, Aiden Markram chose to chase with dew expected to play a role in the night. Suryakumar Yadav wasn't too fussed, expecting having to bowl with the wet ball.

India welcomed back Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya to the XI after injury-forced breaks. "The body feels perfectly fine physically, I spent some time at the COE [BCCI's Centre of Excellence]," Gill said. "Perfectly fine physically and mentally feeling ready. I had a disc bulge in my neck which was hitting the nerves. When I went there [to bat in the Kolkata Test], I had a bit of a spasm before the start of play in the morning. And when I played the game, I got a bulge which hit the nerve and had to go the hospital for a couple of days but recovered well after that."

Ahead of the T20I series against SA, India's captain says Hardik Pandya will bring balance to the side (3:06)

Since contesting a nail-biting T20 World Cup final in 2024, India and South Africa have gone in different directions in T20Is. India have arguably become an even better team since lifting that trophy, achieving a 26-4 record (24 outright wins and two Super Over wins) with a brand of play perfectly suited to the conditions they will defend their title in February-March 2026. South Africa, meanwhile, have won nine and lost 16 of their T20Is since that day in Barbados.

Team India arrive in Cuttack for T20Is | Fans will miss Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

The Goa nightclub tragedy exposed a chilling truth: the club was never designed to save lives. On December 7th, a fire erupted inside Birch by Romeo Lane, trapping guests and staff in a maze of blocked exits, sealed basements, narrow staircases, and smoke-filled glass rooms. The venue, constructed on a salt pan, had just one accessible road for fire trucks. Of the three exits, only one worked. The basement had no ventilation and no functional escape route, turning it into a suffocation chamber. Panic spread as guests smashed glass and collapsed from smoke inhalation. By the time emergency teams broke through the bottlenecked access lane, 25 people were dead. This video uncovers the structural flaws, the ignored rules, the slow rescue, and the horrifying chain of events that turned a party into a catastrophe.

India Vs South Africa, 1st ODI: Jaiswal Out, Rohit Survives, Kohli Edges First Ball – Relive Burger's Chaotic Over

India got off to a brisk start in the first ODI against South Africa at Ranchi, scoring nine runs in the opening over

Nandre Burger struck back in his second over, dismissing Jaiswal and putting early pressure on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Kohli and Rohit stabilized the innings, with Kohli hitting an early four and Rohit surviving a close catch

A rollercoaster of an over from Nandre Burger defined the early stages of the Indian innings in the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, on Sunday (November 30, 2025).

Asked to bat first by the Proteas, India benefitted from Marco Jansen's wayward bowling. The tall left-arm pacer was the wrecker-in-chief in the preceding Test series, which the visitors won 2-0.

Bro Is Playing Test Cricket: Netizens Slam Yashasvi Jaiswal After Getting Out Cheaply During IND vs SA 2nd

The second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur turned into an unexpectedly frustrating outing for young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who found himself targeted by netizens after a sluggish knock of 22 from 38 balls. With regular opener Shubman Gill unavailable for the match, the stage was wide open for Jaiswal to step forward and cement his place at the top. Instead, he struggled to find rhythm on a surface that demanded patience but also punished indecision.

Fans expressed disappointment at what they felt was a missed golden opportunity. Many pointed out that Jaiswal, known for his fearless strokeplay, looked unusually tentative, failing to rotate strike and allowing pressure to mount.

IND Opener Big Weakness Exposed in 2nd ODI!

Yashasvi Jaiswal was once seen as the unlucky player who never got a proper chance in the ODI team. Fans believed he deserved more time in the middle. Now that he finally has it, his form is slipping, and the second ODI against South Africa exposed a few concerns.

Jaiswal fell to a pull shot off Marco Jansen after getting set. Out of 38 balls, 29 were dots, giving him a dot ball percentage of 76.3 percent. Since the 2023 World Cup, this is the second highest among openers from full member Test nations who have faced at least 35 balls.

A clear trend is emerging. In his last six ODI innings, Jaiswal has been bowled by left arm pacers five times, and Jansen alone has dismissed him four times. His struggles against this angle now stand out more than ever.

There is a reason why ODIs are a format after India's heart. Why, at a time when ODIs fight for relevance outside the World Cup, do Indians still sell out stadiums to watch their team in action? It doesn't demand as much devotion as Tests do, but still provides enough time and certainty for their heroes to showcase their skill and fitness. And when two of the greatest of all time, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, find the form they did during the first ODI between against South Africa, it's all the more reason for a three-match series to be frenzied.
