Greenland issues ‘strong warning’ as Trump-linked oil firm prepares to drill

Island’s government says no approval given after Greenland Energy brings kit ashore for exploratory drilling

An American oil company connected to Donald Trump is preparing to sink wells in remote Greenland despite not having received permission from the local authorities.

As the US president renews his threats to claim the vast Arctic territory, materials to prepare for drilling were brought ashore in recent days on Greenland’s eastern coast.

That has prompted Greenland’s government to issue a “strong warning” that no approval had been granted to land the kit. “All future logistical matters must be advised and approved by the mineral resources authority – before they are carried out,” the government said in a statement.

Greenland warns Trump-linked oil firm over unauthorized drilling equipment

Greenland has issued a "strong warning" to an oil company linked to US President Donald Trump after drilling equipment was brought ashore without the required government approvals, according to British media.

The Telegraph reported Sunday that Greenland's Department of Industry and Minerals said machinery had been landed on the island's eastern coast last month for planned oil exploration drilling, but the company did not have the necessary permits.

"A strong warning will be sent" to the licensee, the department said.

The project is being funded by Greenland Energy, a Texas-based company established last year. The firm says as much as $1 trillion in crude could lie beneath the Jameson Land region and has taken a majority stake in the exploration project in return for financing.

Has Donald Trump's Invasion of Greenland Already Begun? Expert Outrage at Unauthorized Oil Drilling

A Texas-based energy firm with deep ties to US President Donald Trump has sparked international outrage by preparing for oil exploration on the remote shores of eastern Greenland. The planned project comes just days after the president renewed threats to seize the autonomous Arctic territory prompting speculation among critics about whether US efforts to expand influence in Greenland are already under way.

The news came after Greenland Energy delivered heavy extraction equipment to the ecologically fragile Jameson Land region without securing the required permits from local authorities. This prompted the Greenlandic government to issue a warning last week, demanding that all future corporate activities receive explicit approval before taking place.

FIFA boss issues $57m threat to nations who oppose his sale plan

Gianni Infantino has given all member associations little time to decide their view on his plan to share stakes in FIFA, warning that some nations may miss out on up to $57 million in funding if they don’t approve his proposal by September 19.

Infantino issued a letter to all federations explaining the benefits of his private investment scheme and the risks that could follow if they are to reject his plans – a new part of the proposal that may sway the initial views of some associations.

The FIFA boss has made clear that riches of up to $10 billion will be made accessible by January 1, 2027, with $40m in funding set to be offered via his investment plan, with a company founded by Joshua Kushner – the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared – leading the search for investors.

Football Australia breaks silence on FIFA boss’ $40m World Cup shakedown as civil war erupts

Football Australia has broken its silence as governing bodies around the globe have shared their disbelief and outrage at being held to ransom over FIFA’s plans to sell a stake in the business operations of the World Cup and its other competitions to private investors.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino plans to create a semi-private subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise with FIFA holding a majority share, the 211 member nations having a 20 per cent share and 20 to 30 per cent stake sold off to private investors.

Emergency talks called in response to FIFA's World Cup sell-off plan as French government confirms meeting between European football bodies

The French government has announced an emergency meeting involving European football's governing bodies to discuss FIFA's controversial plan to open commercial activities to private investors. The proposed changes have sparked widespread concerns over the future governance and financial integrity of the sport, prompting swift political intervention to ensure transparency.

The French government has confirmed that an emergency meeting of Europe’s football governing bodies will take place this Wednesday.

The primary agenda is to carefully analyse FIFA's intention to open its lucrative commercial activities to private investors. Sports Minister Marina Ferrari announced the development in a firm statement on X, which was aptly titled "Football is not for sale." This rapid response highlights the growing unease among European stakeholders regarding the potential commercialisation of the sport's global governing body. Ferrari described Gianni Infantino’s ambitious plan as a "major shift" that fundamentally raises "extremely serious questions" about the governance, structure, and overall future of world football.

Brown on whether Verstappen could join GP at McLaren

Ocon and Bearman react to iconic F1 moments and personal highlights

With Red Bull's Gianpiero Lambiase set to join McLaren in 2028, Zak Brown has addressed speculation over whether there is a possibility of Max Verstappen following in the future.

Zak Brown has responded to questions over whether McLaren’s signing of Gianpiero Lambiase could open up the possibility of recruiting Max Verstappen in the future, following the announcement that the Dutchman’s race engineer will join the papaya squad when his Red Bull contract expires in 2028.

Lambiase – known to many as GP – has acted as Verstappen’s race engineer since the four-time World Champion’s promotion to Red Bull in 2016, the pair having formed a close and successful partnership over the years since.

The US military has denied claims that Iran targeted a US Navy vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command says "No US Navy ships have been struck".

Iran had warned US forces not to enter the strategic waterway after President Donald Trump said the United States would "guide out" ships stranded there.

The US military has denied that any of its Navy ships have been hit in the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian state media reported that a US frigate was targeted by two missiles in the area, forcing it to turn back.

‘Project Freedom’ marks a classic Trump flip from warmonger to humanitarian

After banging the battle drum, the US president is now in Nobel Peace Prize mode, promising to free marooned ships

“Project Freedom” has all the trappings of a classic episode of the Trump Show, the reality series that the rest of the world does not just have to watch, but live through and survive. It has a dramatic plot twist, it is bathed in a self-projected beatific light, and the trailer looked far more promising that the reality.

Trump spent a long weekend in Florida banging the war drum. Iran had not “paid a big enough price” for its past misdeeds, he wrote in an online post before spending Friday afternoon revving up a cheering crowd at America’s largest retirement community.

US official says China is ‘funding’ Iran, urges Beijing to help open Hormuz

Scott Bessent says US has ‘absolute control’ of Hormuz, but calls on China to ‘step up’ with diplomacy to reopen strait.

United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has accused China of “funding the largest state sponsor of terrorism”, referring to Iran, saying that Beijing should help Washington in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Bessent’s blunt criticism of China’s relations with Iran on Monday comes ahead of US President Donald Trump’s expected visit to Beijing next week, where he is set to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

“Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism, and China has been buying 90 percent of their energy, so they are funding the largest state sponsor of terrorism,” Bessent told Fox News.

Emma Raducanu issues four-word health update for French Open after missing three events

Emma Raducanu has given fans an update after missing three tournaments due to lingering symptoms from a viral illness she picked up in February. The British No. 1 has not played a match in almost two months, pulling out of the Miami Open, the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, and the Madrid Open.

Raducanu seemed to get ill during her run to the final of the Transylvania Open and had her vitals checked as she lost the championship match to Sorana Cirstea. But she decided to head to the Middle East and played her opening match in Doha just two days later, retiring in the third set.

Emma Raducanu, 23, shares rare four-word health update after long absence

EMMA RADUCANU confirmed she’s feeling “much better” amid a lengthy layoff from the WTA Tour.

Raducanu, 23, subsequently withdrew from Miami before a lingering viral illness caused her to miss events in Linz and Madrid.

Following an extended absence from social media, the former US Open champion posted a photo dump to Instagram.

Alongside a fingers crossed emoji, a fan commented: “I can’t wait to see you back out on court soon. I hope you’re feeling a lot better now.”

Professional tennis player Emma Raducanu has post-viral syndrome. And commentators are giving her terrible advice.

During a tennis tournament this February in Cluj, Romania, professional tennis player Emily Raducanu likely contracted a virus.

In the weeks following, the 2021 U.S. Open champion has had to pull out of numerous tournaments around the world, including the recent Madrid Open. Raducanu’s last match was in early March during a tournament in Indian Wells, California, where she lost in the third round to Amanda Anisimova.

Raducanu has stated she is experiencing prolonged symptoms following a viral illness but has not disclosed the exact virus as she had when she developed COVID-19 in December 2021. Last fall, the 23-year old also pulled out of a tournament citing an unspecified “illness.”

A teenage girl with mummy issues? The horror craze is about to hit home

Director Lee Cronin unwraps a Sinners-style fright fest with a multi-layered look at family dynamics. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

It’s a pretty cool scene,” says Terence “Tez” Palmer of the moment a teenage girl possessed by an evil spirit crawls across the ceiling and drops into an open coffin containing her recently deceased grandmother. The dead woman’s relatives try desperately to pull her out, but the struggle sends the casket crashing to the floor. “There’s embalming fluid all over the place and the girl’s drinking it,” chuckles Palmer. “Everyone’s screaming and throwing up.”

The classic 1930s Boris Karloff film villain The Mummy has had more than a dozen films made featuring it, but when the 2017 film by this same name nearly bankrupted a film studio, I would have thought The Mummy was dusted.

But Canberra's Lake Tuggeranong College alumnus James Wan has King Midas's touch when it comes to film franchises, with Saw, The Conjuring, Aquaman, Fast and the Furious under his belt, the people with money seem to want to exhume the mummy character once again, as long as Wan and his Saw friends are in control.

Film Review: Lee Cronin's The Mummy; investigative horror story is unnerving and psychologically potent

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is not the film you might be expecting – and that’s precisely its strength. Rather than leaning into the sweeping, action-adventure bombast typically associated with the title, Lee Cronin pivots sharply into something far more intimate and unnerving: a slow-burn, investigative horror story rooted in grief, absence, and the uncanny terror of something returned… wrong.

The premise is deceptively simple. When young Katie (Emily Mitchell), the daughter of Charlie Cannon (Jack Reynor), a journalist based in Cairo, vanishes into the desert without a trace, the emotional devastation fractures a family beyond repair. Eight years later, her sudden reappearance should signal relief, even joy – but Cronin is far more interested in the psychological fallout than catharsis. What unfolds instead is a deeply unsettling portrait of a family trying to reconcile memory with the reality standing in front of them.

Evil Dead Director’s Upcoming Haunt Breathes New Life Into Ancient Monster

For the past few decades, mummies have been featured monsters in movies that are more action-oriented than horror. The last time a mummy was featured as a horror monster in a mainstream film was in 1987’s The Monster Squad. One could be forgiven for thinking of mummies in terms of Brendan Fraser or Tom Cruise, because zombies were introduced, and typical mummies are just zombies wrapped up in bandages … right?

In the latest take on the monster, horror master Lee Cronin reminds audiences that mummies have a mystique that is steeped in ancient pagan ritual and occult practices. Millenia before there were zombies, the restless dead were said to have walked the earth, and the only way anyone knew to prevent such affliction was mummification. Early horror iterations called “The Mummy” often asked the question, “what if mummification wasn’t enough to contain the restless dead?” Even the action films tackle this query.

At Brad Scott’s first public appearance as Essendon coach in 2022, he spoke of the need for unity at a club that had excelled in tearing itself apart.

“If you’re not united, and you’re not going in the same direction, I don’t care what players you’ve got, [or] what facilities you’ve got – none of that matters,” Scott said.

In his fourth season at “the Hangar”, those words will be put to the test again.

Not even the most optimistic Essendon supporter is expecting their side to play finals this season. Scott, himself, acknowledged after the heavy defeat to Hawthorn that there’s an obvious gap between the Bombers and the competition’s best teams.

‘Not a big club’: Great’s scathing Bombers fall from grace claim as trade ‘miss’ to ruin next decade

Essendon’s colossal decision not to trade Zach Merrett at last October’s deadline could set the club back years, according to a triple premiership great.

Citing Richmond’s converse approach to rebuilding from scratch by trading its wantaway stars, three-time Tigers flag-winner Jack Riewoldt believes the Dons “completely missed the trick” by holding Merrett to his contract.

The Bombers kicked off their season in unsightly fashion against Hawthorn – the club Merrett sought a move to – last Friday, falling by 62 points and conceding their fifth-worst score in the Brad Scott era.

Update Chrome now: Zero-day bug allows code execution via malicious webpages

Protect your team’s devices and data – no IT skills needed

Google has issued a patch for a high‑severity Chrome zero‑day, tracked as CVE‑2026‑2441, a memory bug in how the browser handles certain font features that attackers are already exploiting.

CVE-2026-2441 has the questionable honor of being the first Chrome zero-day of 2026. Google considered it serious enough to issue a separate update of the stable channel for it, rather than wait for the next major release.

The latest version number is 145.0.7632.75/76 for Windows and macOS, and 145.0.7632.75 for Linux. So, if your Chrome is on version 145.0.7632.75 or later, it’s protected from these vulnerabilities.

CISA Warns of Google Chromium 0-Day Vulnerability Actively Exploited in Attacks

An urgent warning regarding a newly discovered zero-day vulnerability in Google Chromium, which is reportedly under active exploitation in the wild.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-2441, affects Chromium’s CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) engine and can enable remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on a victim’s system.

According to the advisory published on February 17, 2026, exploitation involves a use-after-free condition in Chromium’s CSS handling that may lead to heap corruption.

Attackers could exploit this flaw through specially crafted HTML web pages, potentially compromising systems when unsuspecting users visit malicious or compromised websites.

CISA added CVE-2026-2441 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog, underscoring the urgency for organizations to apply mitigations immediately.
