Large parts of North Sydney will be locked down this weekend as thousands of runners flood local streets to take part in one of Australia’s largest sporting events.

The 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon returns on Sunday, with 40,000 athletes starting an arduous 42 kilometre journey at 6:30am from Miller St, before crossing over the Sydney Harbour Bridge into the southern part of the city.

Local authorities are warning the community should be aware that extensive traffic changes will be in place across the suburb from Saturday morning.

A Non-Runner's Guide to Partying Your Way Around the TCS Sydney Marathon

You don't rock up as a spectator to the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS to simply watch your mate or relative run past you briefly and then meet them at the finish line for a pat on the back. There's actually stacks of stuff to do along the entire route, from watching live music and DJ sets (think Young Franco, Tigerlily, The Potbelleez and Nina Las Vegas) to feasting at local bars and restaurants, and catching street-side drag queen performances.

Think of the TCS Sydney Marathon as an epic free festival that spans the entire 42-kilometre course – running from the North Shore, along Sydney Harbour Bridge and down to the finish line at the Sydney Opera House. To get the most out of it all, pick a few of the eight entertainment hubs to visit on Sunday, August 30, cheering on the runners while also dancing to electronic tunes and enjoying Sydney's world-famous views. Rooftop after-parties also abound for those wanting to celebrate well into the night.

Russia Says Its Two-Seat Su-57 Will Fly Combat AI

On 14 August 2026 the Russian state news agency TASS reported that the two-seat Su-57D will be used to test combat artificial intelligence under development at the Sukhoi Design Bureau. The source was Mikhail Strelets, the bureau’s director, speaking on the Zvezda television programme Military Acceptance.

That sentence deserves to be read carefully, because it contains a claim, a claimant, and a broadcaster, and all three belong to the same state.

What is genuinely verifiable is narrower, and still interesting: Russia has built a two-seat stealth fighter, flown it, and says its second cockpit exists to command drones.

Everything else attributed to Strelets in the coverage — the combat AI, the swarms, the Okhotnik — was reported by TASS in paraphrase, not in quotation marks. No architecture, no autonomy level, no timeline and no decision authority has been disclosed. Army Recognition, which covered the story at length, was blunt that this should be viewed as a development objective rather than a demonstrated capability.

Russia's Su-57 Is Supposed To Challenge Western 5th-Gen Fighters — So Why Is Its Fleet So Small?

One of the best predictors of a successful fighter jet program is how many units are produced. This is especially true for aircraft that are exported to other countries that select them objectively (as opposed to Soviet-style military aid). There are exceptions, perhaps the most obvious being the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor. The circumstances of that aircraft are different, as it was built for the Cold War, it entered service during GWOT when the need for the fighter had largely disappeared. Congress also banned its export.

None of this is true for the Russian Sukhoi Su-57. The fighter was initially developed as a joint Russo-Indian program and was explicitly designed for export. It also entered service at a time of worsening geopolitical security, as Cold War legacy fighter jets are being retired and replaced around the world. It is only a mild exaggeration (explained below) to say no one has wanted to buy it, not even Russia. While the failure to export the Su-57 could be interpreted as a greater vote of no confidence in Russia than the aircraft itself, it's an insufficient explanation in light of Russia's own modest order.

Why This Small European Country Has Twice As Many 5th-Gen Fighters As Russia

The world's fifth-generation fighter jets are generally considered to be the F-22 Raptor, the F-35 Lightning II, the Shenyang J-35, the Chengdu J-20, and the Sukhoi Su-57. There is debate about whether the Su-57 should be considered a true fifth-generation fighter jet or a 4.5th-generation fighter with some low-observable characteristics. But for the purposes of this article, it will be included as a fifth-generation fighter.

The fighter jet entered Russian service in 2020 while Norway received its first F-35As in 2017. Today, Norway may have around double the number of fifth-generation fighters in service compared with Russia. In fact, Russia may or may not even be in the top ten countries by number of fifth-generation fighter jets in service as of mid-2026, as it's unclear if it has more or less than Denmark.

Did OpenAI's models just breach its own risk 'red line'? Outside safety experts think so

AI safety experts say the OpenAI models that carried out the autonomous hack of another company earlier this month may have crossed into a risk category so dangerous that OpenAI’s own internal risk control policies were supposed to require the company to temporarily pause development of those models.

Earlier this week, OpenAI disclosed that two of its models—the newly released GPT-5.6 Sol and a more capable, unreleased system—broke out of a locked-down internal test environment, exploited a previously unknown “zero-day” vulnerability to reach the open internet, and then breached fellow AI company Hugging Face to steal the answers to a cybersecurity test they were being evaluated on.

    Ahuachapán and Its Restive Neighbors

From a geothermal hotspot to the one-time “Lighthouse of the Pacific,” the heat is on beneath the volcanic landscape of western El Salvador.

Volcanic activity takes on many forms in western El Salvador. The land near the city of Ahuachapán is pockmarked with craters and covered with recent lava flows. Meanwhile, a geothermal field feeds geysers, heats mineral pools, and powers a long-operating energy plant. The area is part of a volcanic landscape that stretches more than 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) along the Pacific coast from Guatemala to Panama, composing the Central American Volcanic Arc.

On the right side of the image, Santa Ana stands at 2,381 meters (7,812 feet) above sea level as the country’s tallest volcano. Its summit features several crescent-shaped ridges surrounding a hot, acidic crater lake. The volcano remains active, with small to moderate explosive eruptions recorded since the 16th century. Its most recent significant eruption, in 2005, launched a dense gas and ash column high in the air and sent lahars down its slopes.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Salvadoran investigative outlet El Faro announced Thursday that two of its members’ assets, including a bank account and property, were frozen, in what it denounced as an escalation of political persecution for its work exposing corruption in the government of President Nayib Bukele.

“It’s another level of attack against us with a clear purpose,” El Faro Director Carlos Dada said in a news conference Thursday. “These are not fiscal measures. They are political measures trying to silence us.”

Invincible highlights its best and worst natures almost simultaneously

“Your time on Earth has made you soft.” “Don’t count on it!” This dialogue exchange arrives roughly halfway through “Don’t Do Anything Rash,” the penultimate episode of Invincible’s fourth season, and there’s every chance that I’m the only person on the planet who’s currently fixated on it. There are certainly more interesting moments in this episode, which spends almost the entirety of its runtime on a massive throwdown between the assembled galactic heroes and the skeleton crew of the Viltrum Empire. At points—especially as it accelerates toward a spectacular, apocalyptic climax—”Rash” manages to transcend Invincible’s usual cruising-altitude tendencies, making for a fitfully fascinating hour of TV. (It even, loath as I am to admit it, made me think seriously about the Viltrumites as a people for a bit.) But then my mind flicks back to that absolutely nothing, two-line exchange, tossed between Nolan Grayson and Viltrumite third-stringer Anissa as they briefly face off amid a wider Goku-on-Goku space fight, and I’m reminded of why this show so frequently exhausts me.

EA Is Ending Support for Its Most Controversial Battlefield Game

Battlefield confirms online service server shutdowns in June for one of the its most experimental installments in the franchise.

The Battlefield franchise is making a big change to its lineup this coming summer, when one of its less popular installments will no longer be supported on consoles.

It’s been more than a decade since Battlefield Hardline launched to mixed reviews all the way back in March of 2015. The project was immediately distinct from previous entries in the franchise, due to its shift from large-scale military set pieces to more of a focus on a cops versus robbers theme. Although some fans liked the change of pace, the game definitely had a lot of haters at launch, as well.

EA is nuking Battlefield Hardline on consoles

EA has put another game on the chopping block, or at least the console versions of it. The company says it will delist the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield Hardline from digital storefronts on May 22, and shut down the online services on June 22. The single-player campaign will remain playable for those who own the game. The PC version of Battlefield Hardline isn’t affected by these changes.

In its announcement on X, EA didn't explain exactly why it's ceasing support for the game on PS4 and Xbox One. It pointed readers to a FAQ on its website that lays out some of the typical reasons why it ends online support for its games. These include factors like declining player bases.

Battlefield Hardline Sunsetting On PS4 And Xbox One

It’s a sad final note for Visceral Games, one of EA’s biggest and most important studios.

They revealed on Twitter that Battlefield Hardline will be removed from PlayStation 4’s and Xbox One’s online stores on June 22, 2026.

People who own the game will still be able to play and/or redownload their copies for both consoles. But they will also no longer be able to play any online modes.

Battlefield Hardline will continue to be available on PC, where it is available on Steam, Epic Game Store, and EA’s own EA app.

Battlefield Hardline was the last game released by Visceral Games. The studio, formerly known as EA Redwood Shores, made some of EA’s biggest titles over the decades, from Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2000, to The Godfather, to the Dead Space franchise, to Dante’s Inferno.
