Kazakhstan, Montenegro Seek Stronger Economic and Political Ties During Historic Visit
ASTANA – Kazakhstan and Montenegro agreed to deepen political dialogue and broaden cooperation in trade, transport, logistics, tourism, education, and innovation during Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović’s first official visit to Kazakhstan, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
During talks on June 19, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described Montenegro as a reliable partner in the Balkans and voiced support for its European Union accession efforts. Milatović expressed confidence that Montenegro could join the bloc by 2028, saying that EU membership would create new opportunities for engagement with Kazakhstan, as reported by Akorda.
In a joint statement, the presidents emphasized the potential to expand economic ties and attract investment, identifying energy, infrastructure, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence as key areas for future collaboration. They also highlighted the strategic importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe.
New media partnership: Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex and RTCG sign memorandum
Today, as part of the official visit of the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović to Astana, the TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Radio and Television of Montenegro (Radio-televizija Crne Gore, RTCG) have entered into a memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The first cooperation document between the Kazakh and Montenegrin media was signed by Deputy Director of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex Tlegen Abishev and General Director of RTCG Boris Raonić.
The document lays foundation for the development of bilateral cooperation in the areas of news exchange, joint coverage of events and activities, as well as for sharing the best practices and modern methods of media production.

President Tokayev holds talks with Montenegrin president in Astana
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović in Astana, marking the first such visit in the 20 years since the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries. At the conclusion of the meeting, they issued a joint statement outlining key areas of cooperation.
During the talks, Milatović praised the political reforms and economic modernization carried out in Kazakhstan through constitutional changes. In turn, Tokayev reaffirmed Astana’s support for Montenegro’s aspiration to join the EU as a full member and expressed confidence in the successful completion of the accession process.
The two sides plan to boost bilateral trade and direct investment, with transport and logistics high on the agenda.
