Kazakhstan, Iran Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Trade, Transport and Logistics
ASTANA – Kazakhstan and Iran discussed expanding cooperation in trade, transport, and logistics during meetings between senior foreign ministry officials on Jan. 15.
Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi to review a broad range of matters on the bilateral agenda. The talks covered strengthening political dialogue, deepening trade and economic cooperation, expanding interaction in the transport and logistics sector, and cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Special attention was given to the implementation of agreements reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Kazakhstan on Dec. 10-11, 2025. Both officials confirmed their mutual interest in the consistent implementation of these agreements and in providing additional impetus to bilateral cooperation in priority areas, reported the ministry’s press service.
Iran intends to develop transport connectivity with Kazakhstan
Kazakh Ambassador Ontalap Onalbayev met on Wednesday with Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the MFA's press service.
The sides discussed the development of transport links connecting the two countries, as well as other issues of mutual interest. Particular attention was paid to implementing the arrangements reached during the official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Kazakhstan, and to carrying out the instructions given by the heads of state following the visit.
Trade and economic cooperation, as well as transport and logistics connectivity, play a vital role in Kazakhstan-Iran relations. In this regard, the sides expressed readiness to thoroughly examine issues related to increasing cargo and transit volumes along the International North-South Transport Corridor and the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, opening new transport corridors “Kazakhstan-Iran-Iraq” and “Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Armenia”, developing maritime links between the ports of the two countries, and implementing joint investment projects in transport and logistics at the Shahid Rajaee and Chabahar ports, and reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Kazakhstan, Iran Step Up Talks on Transport Corridors
Kazakh Ambassador Ontalap Onalbayev has met with Farzaneh Sadegh, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, to discuss expanding transport links between Kazakhstan and Iran and other issues of mutual interest.
Special attention was given to implementing agreements reached during the official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Kazakhstan and to executing follow-up instructions issued by the two heads of state, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Trade, economic cooperation, and transport connectivity were highlighted as pillars of bilateral relations. The sides expressed readiness to closely examine ways to boost cargo and transit volumes along the International North-South Transport Corridor and the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway. They also discussed opening new routes-Kazakhstan-Iran-Iraq and Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Armenia-developing maritime links between national ports, and advancing joint investment projects at Shahid Rajaee Port and Chabahar Port.
