WAFL Match Report: Late Tigers surge ends Eagles' campaign

West Coast's season came to an end with a 33-point defeat to Claremont at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday afternoon

West Coast's finals hopes were extinguished after Claremont pulled away late to claim a 33-point victory at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday afternoon.

West Coast's WAFL season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, with Claremont proving too strong in a 20.10 (130) to 14.13 (97) victory at Mineral Resources Park.

Needing a win to secure a finals berth, the Eagles faced an early challenge as the Tigers stormed out of the blocks through Jack Musika, who kicked the opening two goals of the game to establish a 12-point advantage.

THE TOP four will only be decided in the final game of the home and away season as Hawthorn travels across the country to take on West Coast aiming to secure a double chance on Sunday night.

The Eagles (4-18) paid the price for again misfiring in front of goal as it booted 2.14 after the first change to gradually lose touch with GWS in a 10th straight defeat.

West Coast has seen its early-season promise slowly fade away as the losses have mounted up, and still needs one more win to match the five victories it had in 2024 that remains the benchmark of the club's past five years.

MELBOURNE has started its new AFLW era under Tom Wilson in style with a 19-point victory over Hawthorn to begin the 2026 campaign.

The Dees proved too clinical in the fourth term for the Hawks, wrestling back momentum to run out 9.6 (60) to 6.5 (41) victors.

Melbourne was too slick in the first quarter, piling on five goals to Hawthorn's two as veterans Kate Hore and Tayla Harris ran riot early.

Hore was everywhere, dominating around the coalface and as a serious threat in the front half, finishing with 22 disposals, nine score involvements, five marks and 1.4.

Brave CF champion steps in on short notice to make UFC debut

There’s been a late-notice switch-up to the UFC Belgrade card.

Following an initial report from Marcel Dorff, the UFC announced that that Josias Musasa is out of his scheduled bantamweight fight against Mark Vologdin at this weekend’s event. In his stead, Brave CF bantamweight champion Borislav Nikolic steps in to fight Volgodin.

Vologdin (12-4-2) is the rare Contender Series graduate who lost his fight, but impressed Dana White enough to earn a contract regardless, also earning an extra bonus from White for his 2025 Fight of the Year contender with Adrian Luna Martinetti. Vologdin made his promotional debut in April, going to a draw with John Castaneda at UFC Winnipeg.

Borislav Nikolic: UFC Record, Stats and Fighter Profile

Mark Vologdin’s UFC debut may have ended in a draw earlier this year, but this time the Russian fighter got off to a crazy start at UFC Belgrade against Borislav Nikolic.

He dropped UFC debutant “Zombee” early in the fight, then pinned him against the fence and controlled his neck while unloading a series of heavy knees until the Serbian fighter managed to break free.

Nikolic found his range after the first three minutes. He then made the most of his reach advantage, picking Vologdin apart with kicks and punches from the outside without stepping into the pocket or chasing his opponent.

Max King is set to suit up for St Kilda's AFL side for the first time in 756 days.

But Kane Cornes has questioned the Saints' decision to play the 26-year-old this week, calling the move desperate.

The former No. 4 pick has not played an AFL match since Round 16, 2024, having battled with knee, calf and hamstring injuries throughout the last two seasons.

King appeared to be on track for a return earlier in the season, having managed to get through the Saints’ Round 5 clash against Gold Coast in the VFL unscathed.

But in their match against the Blues the following week, King came off with a hamstring strain, delaying his return for several weeks.

The Roos' third single-figure defeat this year will make it hard for them to snatch a finals spot with a horror run home that includes games against three current top-six sides as well as Geelong, beginning with Melbourne.

Live: Port forced into last-minute line-up switch ahead of Dockers clash

The 'dockside derby' between Port Adelaide and Fremantle kicks off a big Saturday of football ahead of tonight's clash of old rivals Collingwood and Carlton.

The injury-hit Power are all but out of finals contention, but they could put a small dent in the Dockers' run to the minor premiership with a win at Adelaide Oval.

Tonight, the Blues will need a win over the Magpies at the MCG to stay in touch with the top-10. The late game in Perth sees West Coast host Brisbane.

The Bulldogs will be celebrating Old Boys' Day at Accor Stadium on Saturday afternoon, honouring every single player who has donned the Blue and White since 1935.
