The trailer for the first season of the new Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, has sparked passionate discussion online: Does popular culture IP need to keep being rehashed? That premiere date is earlier than what had previously been teased by HBO boss Casey Bloys who had coyly suggested the series would drop in early 2027. For Potter heads, it’s Christmas come, well, at Christmas time.

Team Update: NRL Round 2 vs Knights

The Sea Eagles squad has been reduced to 20 players ahead of Sunday's Round 2 clash against the Knights at 4 Pines Park.

Dropping out of the squad in the 24-hour update are forwards Simione Laiafi and Jackson Shereb.

Paul Bryan, Brandon Wakeham and Josh Feledy are in line to make their Club debut for Manly.

The Sea Eagles and Knights will be playing for the Malcolm Reilly Challenge Trophy.

The Sea Eagles will also play the Knights at 4 Pines Park on Sunday in the Jersey Flegg Cup (12:00pm) and the NSW Cup (1:45pm) with gates opening at 11:30am.

In Round One, 1996, five debutants took the field for the Crows, kicking off careers that would shape the club’s history.

Thirty years ago, five new Crows started a journey to surprising success.

Five recruits with assorted football experiences shared their debuts for Adelaide in Round One of 1996 but would later share triumphs of greater significance.

Darren Jarman, Kym Koster, Troy Bond, Peter Caven and Shane Ellen – all added to the squad after a disappointing 1995 season under coach Robert Shaw – played in a stirring 90-point win against Sydney at Football Park, on the last day of March.

Remarkably, the five featured on the last day of September the following year, when Adelaide won its first AFL premiership at the MCG.

The trio of Blake Acres, Lachie Cowan and Matthew Carroll all successfully got through the club’s VFL practice match against Footscray late last week, with the side kicking a wayward 6.22 to ultimately go down by 21 points. It would be stiff to be dropped after just one match, but like most clubs early in the season, it will be intriguing to see if Michael Voss continues to deploy a two-ruck strategy with Liam Reidy as support to Marc Pittonet.

Disney has released a new trailer for the upcoming original drama series, “RJ Decker”, which will be coming to ABC, Hulu and Disney+ later this year.

Grey’s Anatomy’s Scott Speedman is trading medicine for private investigation in his upcoming ABC crime drama RJ Decker.

In Us Weekly’s exclusive first look at the show, Speedman’s RJ calls himself “the sunshine state’s most lovable PI.” The description seems misleading, though, since RJ is then seen getting punched in the face by an exotic dancer.

“Business is booming,” RJ quips. “Turns out, murder never takes a vacation.”

The ICC has asked the PCB to explain in detail the reasoning behind an invocation of the Force Majeure clause in their boycott of the India clash at the T20 World Cup on February 15. ESPNcricinfo understands the PCB sent an email to the ICC citing government orders as the reason for the boycott of the clash in Colombo. The development comes as both sides continue engaging in dialogue, with the ICC keen to find a resolution.

Force Majeure is a legal concept that excuses a party from performing their obligations in the face of an unforeseeable event beyond their control – most commonly a major natural disaster or war – but in terms of the participation agreement for ICC events, it also categorises a government order as a Force Majeure. In this instance, the government of Pakistan first posted a statement on X that Pakistan would not take the field on February 15, before the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told his cabinet the same and linked it to showing solidarity with Bangladesh, who were removed from the tournament.

'Flight is booked': India going to Colombo as boycott looms

The 2026 men's T20 World Cup could be the first major ICC event in 15 years not to feature an India-Pakistan match

India captain Suryakumar Yadav says his team "are going" to Colombo despite the uncertainty over their T20 World Cup clash with Pakistan on February 15.

The Pakistan government announced this week their team would boycott the match amid ongoing political tensions between the neighbouring countries, later clarifying the decision was taken in solidarity with Bangladesh who withdrew from the tournament after the ICC refused their request to relocate their World Cup matches out of India.

The ICC has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to "explore a mutually acceptable resolution" which "protects the interests of all stakeholders", while Sri Lanka Cricket have also written to their PCB counterparts urging them to reconsider given the impact a forfeited match could have on the tourism sector in a country still recovering from an economic collapse.

Former Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes have raised concerns about the Australian Sports Commission's handling of a documentary it says may trigger former AIS attendees.

The documentary, called Forging Champions, was commissioned by the Australian Sports Commission to air on Channel 9 this coming Monday.

It covers the 40-year history of the AIS, featuring interviews with some of Australia's biggest sports stars from the past four decades.

But former athletes who claim they were physically and psychologically abused during their time at the institute claim the documentary could potentially trigger some people, leading to harm if it presents a rosy image of the institute.

There was a time not so long ago that Alexander Volkanovski was considered the best pound-for-pound UFC fighter in the world.

Robert Whittaker argues Ilia Topuria is No. 2 greatest featherweight

Although Ilia Topuria's featherweight title reign was short, Robert Whittaker says you can't deny the results.

With featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (27-4 MMA, 14-3 UFC) making his first title defense in a rematch against Diego Lopes in Saturday's UFC 325 headliner in Sydney, the featherweight GOAT debate has restarted. Volkanovski defended his belt five times in his first reign, before regaining his title with a win over Lopes at UFC 314.

Jose Aldo (32-10 MMA, 14-9 UFC) holds the record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC featherweight history at seven, with Volkanovski at five, and Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) at three. However, for Whittaker, Topuria's (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) one title defense over Holloway places him above everyone but Volkanovski.
