Search for Perth’s newest millionaire after Saturday Lotto

Perth has welcomed its newest multimillionaire after a lucky punter won a massive Lotto jackpot over the weekend — and they might not even know it.

The punter was just one of three Australian winners who nabbed the division one jackpot on Saturday, with the windfall officially making the Perth local $3.3 million richer.

No one in WA has yet come forward to claim the jaw-dropping jackpot but Lotterywest has revealed where the lucky ticket was bought.

It was purchased from Highgate Lotto News & Gifts, a newsagency located in Perth’s inner-city suburbs.

The owner of the Beaufort Street newsagency Natasha Asquin said that she was thrilled to learn that her store’s sale helped change someone’s life.

Vehicle with 1 million kilometres on the clock hits the market

A west Victorian stock agent is selling his four-wheel-drive vehicle after driving it for 1 million kilometres.

The owner says the vehicle has been serviced almost 100 times and is in good condition.

Bidding opens on Monday morning and will continue for two weeks.

After clocking 1 million kilometres in his four-wheel-drive vehicle, a west Victorian stock agent has listed his prized possession for sale.

Nhill resident Gary Driscoll averaged more than 180km a day in his 2009 Toyota LandCruiser, driving to properties across the west of the state.

The vehicle goes up for sale on Monday morning, with an online auction to run for two weeks.

Million-Kilometre LandCruiser Listed for Online Auction

According to ABC News, west Victorian stock agent Gary Driscoll has listed his 2009 Toyota LandCruiser for sale after travelling almost 1 million kilometres. The Nhill resident averaged more than 180 kilometres a day while driving to properties across western Victoria.

The vehicle’s digital odometer reads 999,999km and the LandCruiser is parked in Nhill. Mr Driscoll has chosen not to drive the remaining roughly 300 metres to the 1 million-kilometre mark, saying he wants the buyer to have that privilege. He said he did not know whether the odometer would return to zero or remain on all nines after reaching the milestone.

Online bidding opens on Monday morning and will run for two weeks. Mr Driscoll said he could not put a firm value on the vehicle, adding that its price would be determined by buyers. He said he thought it should make more than $30,000, while noting that “the value will be in the eyes of the beholder”.

'Within 20 Km of 2 Million People': Major Volcano Is Hiding Two Active Magma Chambers

A major volcano in Nicaragua has not one but two active magma chambers, scientists reveal in a new study, shedding important light on the inner workings of a highly active volcano located near a large human population.

Masaya in western Nicaragua is one of the region's busiest volcanoes, although its activity in modern times has been mostly "passive degassing, lava lake formation, and vent-clearing explosions," the study's authors write in Geophysical Research Letters.

It's a basaltic shield volcano, so that behavior isn't surprising. Shield volcanoes are known for highly fluid lava that erupts in slow, effusive flows – such as typical Hawaiian eruptions – rather than the violent blasts of stratovolcanoes.

$13 million man ices late field goal as Joey’s Knights fear laid bare

A costly captain’s challenge marked the end of a thriller comeback attempt by the Dolphins on Sunday as the Knights claimed a 13-12 victory in Newcastle.

Two quick tries for the Dolphins put the game on its head late in the second half, with Newcastle forced to think fast to find the answer to secure the win.

Dylan Brown was the man of the moment for the home side, calling for his teammates to set him up to nail a field goal from 20 metres out.

The $13 million recruit smashed the field goal with ease, however, the Dolphins’ attack were not disheartened by the one-point gap on the scoreboard.

As it happened: Knights pip Dolphins; Eels upset Manly

One of the game's great rivalries was on show at CommBank Stadium to launch Sunday's NRL action with the Eels hosting old foes Manly.

The Eels and Sea Eagles have met 165 times since 1947 and it's the boys from the northern beaches who held a sizeable head-to-head advantage which they added to with a 33-18 win at 4 Pines Park in Round 8.

This time however, the Eels were able to turn the tables in an upset, securing a 23-14 victory.

Next up, the action headed to Newcastle to bring down the curtain on Round 18 with the Knights hosting the Dolphins.

The Knights and Dolphins have met just six times previously, with Newcastle winning five of those.

Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15 Million After Company Refuses to Remove Her Photo From TV Boxes

Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million suit against South Korean tech giant Samsung. Lipa claims that the company used her image on its product packaging without her prior authorization.

According to Variety, the singer filed the lawsuit on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The complaint alleges that Samsung has placed the picture of Lipa in action on stage at the Austin City Limits Festival on TV packaging since last year.

Lipa claims that when she discovered this, she contacted the company to ask them to take the picture down, but Samsung responded dismissively and rejected her request.

Dua Lipa Sues Samsung For Using Her Image on TV Packaging Without Her Consent

The 30-year-old entertainer filed on Friday (May 8) in the Central District of California, suing the electronics company for $15 million, accusing them of using her image on their packaging to sell TVs without her permission, according to Variety.

According to the lawsuit, the electronics manufacturer used a photo of Dua performing at the Austin City Limits Festival on their TV packaging starting last year. Then, once she was made aware, she demanded they stop using her image and she alleges the company was “dismissive and callous,” refusing her request.

“Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever,” the complaint says. “Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.”

Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, alleging the company used her image on television packaging without authorization or compensation.

Citing a complaint filed Friday in the US District Court for the Central District of California, Variety reported Saturday that Samsung used Lipa’s likeness on cardboard TV packaging beginning last year as part of a mass-market marketing campaign.

The lawsuit claims the image was used without Lipa’s knowledge or consent, creating the false impression that she endorsed Samsung products.

The $4 million man: Cummins offered monster deal as rivals come after cricket stars

Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has been offered a Cricket Australia contract extension to 2029 that would raise his earnings to around $4 million per year, ahead of a gruelling season that could see his team play 21 Tests in 12 months.

CA has also been in talks for similar deals with the likes of Travis Head, who, alongside Cummins, was last year offered around $10 million to quit Australian cricket and take up franchise cricket full-time.

Cummins’ salary will jump by about $1 million per year, and amount to about $12 million over three years, if he signs the long-term deal. The Test captain came in at No.15 on a recent list of Australia’s top sports earners compiled by this masthead, with overall earnings of $9-10 million last year, including his commercial partnerships and Indian Premier League deals.

Star Aussies set for mega CA paydays as $12m deal emerges in shock Cummins report

To help prevent overseas T20 leagues from poaching the country’s biggest stars, Cricket Australia has reportedly offered Pat Cummins a $12 million long-term deal, ensuring the national captain prioritises Test cricket until 2029.

As revealed by The Sydney Morning Herald, CA has offered Cummins a three-year contract extension worth $4 million annually, while multi-format opener Travis Head is in talks to earn a similar deal. Despite some speculation about his spot in the Test side, Marnus Labuschagne has also been offered a three-year deal, according to the report.

Aussies lock in return to scene of disaster series; Cricket Australia moving to lock up Pat Cummins on $12m deal

Australia's men's cricket side has locked in its next white-ball tour with a visit to Pakistan scheduled for May and June.

The Aussies only recently played in Pakistan in January and February as a warm-up for the T20 World Cup. That series was disastrous preparation, ending in a 3-0 loss.

This tour of Pakistan will be followed by a return to Bangladesh for an ODI and T20 series.

The first surviving foal of the great Winx, a $10 million yearling, has been retired to the broodmare barn without making it to the trials.

Owner Debbie Kepitis’ Woppitt Bloodstock on Wednesday said that Quinceanera, a daughter of champion stallion Pierro, would not be raced.

The Bloodstock statement said the tough decision to retire the three-year-old was made following veterinary advice and in consultation with trainer Chris Waller.

“Although disappointing, it’s in her best interest to now begin her career as a broodmare,” it read.

Quinceanera, named after the traditional Latin American celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday, which marks her transition from childhood to womanhood, is the second foal of the legendary Winx, which won 25 group 1 races and 33 consecutive victories under the guidance of Waller.

Massive call made with Winx's first foal

Woppitt Bloodstock announced on Wednesday morning Quinceanera had been retired after consultation with vets and trainer Chris Waller.

"Although disappointing, it’s in her best interest to now begin her career as a broodmare," the statement read.

Quinceanera had the racing world buzzing when Debbie Kepitis spent a whopping $10 million on buying back Winx's first foal (out of Pierro) at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The three-year-old filly was never seen publicly, at the races or in a trial, before being retired.
