A major security flaw could affect 1 in 4 Android phones – here's how to check yours

A hardware security flaw found in many Android phones allowed white hat hackers to gain entry in under a minute, according to a new report. From there, they accessed sensitive user data, including messages and crypto wallet seed phrases.

The flaw can be exploited by simply connecting an affected Android device to a laptop via a USB cable, according to a Wednesday report published by Donjon, the research division of crypto security hardware company Ledger. The phone's PIN could then be automatically brute-forced, its storage decrypted, and seed phrases from popular crypto wallets like Kraken Wallet and Phantom extracted.

This Android vulnerability can break your lock screen in under 60 seconds

Protect your team’s devices and data – no IT skills needed

A vulnerability in Android devices can allow attackers to gain access to a phone in less than a minute.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-20435, affects certain MediaTek SoCs (System-on-a-Chip) using Trustonic’s TEE (Trusted Execution Environment). That may sound rare, but reportedly that’s about one in four Android phones, mostly cheaper models.

Researchers demonstrated the vulnerability by connecting a vulnerable phone to a laptop over USB, showing how their exploit recovered the handset PIN, decrypted storage, and extracted seed phrases from several software wallets.

You may argue that if an attacker has your phone, you’re already in trouble. Which is true. But the protection you rely on to keep your data safe if your phone is lost or stolen doesn’t help one bit here.

The multi million dollar opportunity Melbourne City can earn for their A-League rivals tonight: how it works and the curveball

Melbourne City could earn another A-League team millions of dollars if they are victorious in the second leg of their AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) round of 16 clash against Buriram United, in Thailand on Tuesday night.

After Ben Mazzeo’s late equaliser in the first leg at AAMI Park, the tie remains in the balance at 1-1. Aurelio Vidmar’s side had the weekend off in the A-League in order to be fully refreshed for the return fixture, where they’ll take on a club managed by former Central Coast Mariners manager Mark Jackson.

However, beyond the immediate matter of qualification to the next round, a much higher prize awaits Australian football if Melbourne City are successful.

ACLE Round of 16 Second Leg Report: Buriram v City

Melbourne City’s AFC Champions League Elite campaign came to a heartbreaking end in Thailand on Tuesday night, going down 4-2 on penalties to Buriram United after a tense and scoreless second leg at Buriram Stadium.

After last week’s dramatic 1-1 draw in Melbourne left the tie perfectly balanced, neither side could find a breakthrough across 120 minutes in front of more than 22,000 home supporters. With the aggregate score still level at the end of extra time, a penalty shootout was required to decide who would advance to the Quarter Finals.

Following the dramatic draw in the first leg, secured by Ben Mazzeo’s stoppage-time equaliser, Aurelio Vidmar opted to name an unchanged squad for the decisive return leg, backing the same group of starters and substitutes to get the job done in Thailand.

‘Scream 7’ Launches to Killer $97 Million at Global Box Office, ‘Wuthering Heights’ Nears $200 Million

“Scream 7” made a killing in its first weekend at the box office, generating $97.2 million in worldwide ticket sales.

The latest installment in Paramount and Spyglass Media’s long-running slasher series has collected $33.1 million overseas and $64.1 million domestically. Those returns mark a global, international and North American record for the franchise, which began with 1996’s “Scream.”

Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original “Scream,” directed the seventh installment, which follows a new Ghostface killer who targets the daughter of Neve Campbell’s resilient heroine Sidney Prescott. Campbell returned to the franchise after sitting out the sixth entry over a salary dispute. Box office watchers believe that nostalgia for her character’s comeback, as well as other legacy cast members including Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Matthew Lillard, were a factor in the record opening weekend turnout.

Weekend Box Office: Scream 7 Scores Franchise-Best Opening

For all the hubbub surrounding the latest film in a 30-year-old horror franchise, the negativity didn’t stop fans from showing up. Neither did the controversy surrounding its final girl regime change and the supposed ensuing boycott, or even the reviews, when the bulk of the nation’s critics got to catch up with it, labeling it the worst of the bunch. No matter, because Paramount may already be looking at their biggest success story for all of 2026.

Wes Craven’s Scream was released 30 years ago, just before Christmas, in 1996. It opened to $6.3 million and ended up becoming one of the biggest word-of-mouth successes the holiday season has ever seen, grossing over $103 million. Scream 2 was greenlit quickly and came to theaters the following year, opening to $32.9 million and grossing over $101 million. In 2000, the film that supposedly was going to end the trilogy began in February with $34.7 million and finished with $89.1 million. Wes Craven returned to his baby 11 years later with Scream 4, but audiences weren’t as enthusiastic, as it opened with only $18.6 million and finished with a disappointing $38.1 million.

'Scream 7' rules the box office with record opening weekend

"Scream 7" has sliced its way to No. 1 at the domestic box office, scoring the biggest opening weekend in the horror franchise's 30-year history.

The latest slasher sequel starring Neve Campbell debuted with $64.1 million in North American theaters, according to estimates from Comscore released on Sunday. This surpasses the franchise's previous biggest opening weekend of $44.4 million for 2023's "Scream VI." It's also the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far, topping the $32.8 million launch of "Wuthering Heights."

Prior to "Scream VI," the fifth "Scream" movie, which was the series' first new entry in over a decade, opened to $30 million in January 2022 amid continued COVID-19 concerns. 2011's "Scream 4," the series' lowest-grossing installment, started with $18.7 million in 2011.

Deeming rates set to rise, here's what it means for your pocket

Some pensioners and income support recipients could see small reductions in their payments after the federal government announced an increase deeming rates for the second time since the pandemic.

Deeming is a system used to estimate how much income people earn from financial assets such as savings, shares and managed funds.

Rather than assessing actual returns, Centrelink applies standard "deeming rates" to calculate income for pension and payment eligibility.

The Australian Government Actuary (AGA) recommended lifting deeming rates, which the federal government accepted, with an announcement on February 20 that changes would take effect from March 20, 2026. This is the same day pensions will also be indexed.

OpenClaw’s AI assistants are now building their own social network

The viral personal AI assistant formerly known as Clawdbot has a new name — again. After a legal challenge from Claude’s maker, Anthropic, it had briefly rebranded as Moltbot, but has now settled on OpenClaw as its new name.

The latest name change wasn’t prompted by Anthropic, which declined to comment. But this time, Clawdbot’s original creator Peter Steinberger made sure to avoid copyright issues from the start. “I got someone to help with researching trademarks for OpenClaw and also asked OpenAI for permission just to be sure,” the Austrian developer told TechCrunch via email.

“The lobster has molted into its final form,” Steinberger wrote in a blog post. Molting — the process through which lobsters grow — had also inspired OpenClaw’s previous name, but Steinberger confessed on X that the short-lived moniker “never grew” on him, and others agreed.

Exposed Moltbook Database Let Anyone Take Control of Any AI Agent on the Site

Moltbook is a “social media” site for AI agents that’s captured the public’s imagination over the last few days. Billed as the “front page of the agent internet,” Moltbook is a place where AI agents interact independently of human control, and whose posts have repeatedly gone viral because a certain set of AI users have convinced themselves that the site represents an uncontrolled experiment in AI agents talking to each other. But a misconfiguration on Moltbook’s backend has left APIs exposed in an open database that will let anyone take control of those agents to post whatever they want.
