Netflix's New 114-Episode Action Thriller Series Is Officially One of the Biggest Shows on Streaming

James Melzer is a Senior Staff Writer at MovieWeb, working remotely from Pennsylvania. He covers the hottest entertainment news, as well as the latest and greatest in streaming from around the world. James has been a regular staple at MovieWeb for almost three years, writing everything from lists and features, to breaking news and movie reviews.

Before joining MovieWeb, James covered pop culture news for a variety of different media sites, including Manolith and Real TV Addict. He also hosted a successful audio podcast, where he interviewed everyone from authors and artists, to screenwriters and actors.

Less than a week after it was added to Netflix for the very first time, the streaming giant has found a new global hit by way of a 114-episode action thriller that’s taken the platform by storm. Debuting on Aug. 18, the hit series serves as a realistic military thriller that doesn't shy away from examining things like PTSD, survivor's guilt, and the effect war has on a soldier's personal life. Some think it's even better than Special Ops: Lioness, which says a lot considering how popular the Taylor Sheridan show has become in recent years.

7-Part CBS Series That Ended in 2024 Is Suddenly Dominating on Netflix

SEAL Team is gaining renewed attention on Netflix nearly two years after the CBS military drama concluded its seven-season run. The series has entered Netflix's Top 10 TV Shows in the United States, placing it among the platform's most-watched titles. Its latest performance has brought the long-running series back into the spotlight.

SEAL Team, which ended in 2024 after seven seasons, has suddenly become a hit on Netflix. The series ranked seventh among Netflix's Top 10 TV Shows in the United States on August 23, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. It ranked ahead of titles including Conversations with a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes, The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, and Best Medicine.

Netflix Adds 7-Season Military Series From Dutton Ranch And Marshals Showrunners

The Taylor Sheridan-verse has been infiltrated by a Navy SEAL team. That is, CBS's "SEAL Team" creator Benjamin Cavell and former showrunner Spencer Hudnut are now overseeing "Dutton Ranch" and "Marshals," respectively. As such, fans of the "Yellowstone" spin-offs might be tempted to check out the pair's military series, and now they can do just that via Netflix. The streamer just added all seven seasons of "SEAL Team," which follows the professional and personal lives of an elite Navy SEAL unit led by David Boreanaz's Jason Hayes.

Boreanaz picked "SEAL Team" as his "Bones" follow-up, and it served him well. The show emerged in the wake of History Channel's "Six" and around the same time as NBC's "The Brave," both of which similarly focused on military units. But Cavell's series tried to set itself apart by paying special attention to authenticity. The show hired former Navy SEAL Mark Semos and former U.S. Army special operations soldier Tyler Grey to advise, and their expertise allowed "SEAL Team" to not only accurately recreate mission protocols but the personal toll warfare takes on the individuals involved as well.

Australians are flocking to Sri Lanka in record numbers, and Jetstar has taken notice, with Tuesday’s launch of non-stop flights between Melbourne and Colombo.

JQ5 left the terminal at 12.38pm, 38 minutes behind its scheduled departure time of midday.

The new route unleashes more than 50,000 additional return-trip seats between Australia and Sri Lanka a year (although Sydneysiders will need to keep flying SriLankan or travel via Melbourne).

In the 12 months to June 2026, 139,410 Australians visited Sri Lanka, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures reveal – an increase of 13 per cent over the previous 12 months.

Jetstar makes history with new Sri Lanka direct flight route: 'Like Bali of the 1980s'

Jetstar's direct flights from Australia to Sri Lanka are set to kick off today, marking a massive moment for the airline.

It's the first Aussie carrier to have a non-stop route to the island nation, and prices are dramatically lower compared to other airlines.

Jetstar's CEO, Stephanie Tully, told Yahoo Lifestyle that Sri Lanka has so much to offer.

Jetstar will become the first Aussie airline today flying non-stop from Australia to Sri Lanka.

"We're excited to make it more affordable for Australians to experience its beautiful beaches, incredible wildlife, rich culture and world-class food," she said.

"We've already seen strong demand for flights, and Victoria is home to Australia's largest Sri Lankan community, so we're expecting the route to be popular with holidaymakers and those visiting family and friends."

    VIDEO: Unleashed | Barnaby Joyce

Is One Nation big enough for Barnaby Joyce and Pauline Hanson? (Australian Story: Tom Hancock)

Over his 20-year political career, Barnaby Joyce has been a staunch member of the National Party.

So when the three-time party leader defected to One Nation last year, he left voters shocked, colleagues dismayed, and commentators asking whether it would last.

In this Australian Story, Joyce explains why he betrayed the party that made him and whether his political marriage to Pauline Hanson can last.

Also interviewed are wife Vikki Campion, former colleagues, critics and friends.

ABC News feature | Barnaby Joyce has switched horses. But will this political gamble pay off?

New Englanders to get some answers from ‘King Rat’ Barnaby Joyce

Barnaby Joyce will address his dramatic defection from the Nationals and his new political partnership with Pauline Hanson in an Australian Story episode airing on Monday night.

Over a political career spanning more than 20 years, Mr Joyce became one of the National Party’s most recognisable figures and led the party three times. That all ended late last year, when he took New Englanders on a rollercoaster of quitting the party, then announcing his intention to quit politics, then announcing he was joining One Nation, then that he would run for the Senate.

It was a shocking turn of events that was taken very hard by the ‘Barney Army’ who had just campaigned to re-elected, as well as many ordinary New Englanders who had voted for him.

Former Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce denies seeking to lead One Nation

Former Australian deputy prime minister and ex-leader of the National Party Barnaby Joyce said he does not intend to lead the One Nation party after joining it at the end of 2025. He said this in an interview with ABC News Australia.

The 59-year-old Joyce represented the National Party for 20 years. He compared One Nation to Pauline Hanson’s fish-and-chips shop, referring to her business before entering politics, and stressed that the 72-year-old party leader should not fear that he is seeking her position.

National Party leader David Littleproud, who replaced Joyce in the role in 2022, does not share these assurances. According to him, Joyce has never abandoned his desire to lead, regardless of which organization he belongs to.

The Western Bulldogs had long been considered the leading candidate to land his signature, while Geelong has been in the hunt, and Richmond and Collingwood have lobbed lucrative offers.

Power coach holds 'glimmer of hope' over star midfielder

Josh Carr hopes Zak Butters follows the lead of his housemate in re-signing at the Power

PORT Adelaide coach Josh Carr holds a "glimmer of hope" out-of-contract star Zak Butters will follow his housemate's lead and re-sign with the club.

As revealed by AFL.com.au, key forward Mitch Georgiades inked a fresh two-year extension with the Power this week, rejecting interest from rival clubs.

But all signs point towards restricted free agent Butters moving home to Victoria, where a host of suitors are lining up with offers for the two-time All-Australian midfielder.

The Western Bulldogs have long been in the hunt for Butters' signature, with Geelong, Richmond and Collingwood also interested in the Power vice-captain.

Carrick confident Man Utd will make more signings before the end of the transfer window

Michael Carrick expects Manchester United's Premier League title challenge to be bolstered by new signings after his side were linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.

United finished third last season thanks to Carrick's successful spell as interim boss after Ruben Amorim's sacking, raising hopes of winning a first English title since 2013 in the coming campaign.

Carrick's side start their top-flight season at promoted Hull on Saturday and the manager, now on a permanent contract, is confident he will have more new faces to strengthen his squad before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

"I just think we're looking to strengthen the squad. We're certainly working towards that and making the most of the situation that we have, trying to improve things," he told reporters on Thursday.

Just a year ago, a radiant Lynne McGranger donned a gold gown as she stepped on stage to accept the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian TV.

The star – who had been on Home and Away for more than three decades before taking the trophy as she prepared to leave the show – said she was “blown away” by the accolade.

Fast forward to the 2026 Logie Awards, and Lynne was nowhere to be seen, and neither were a slew of her former Home and Away castmates.

Why New Zealand’s tour of South Africa could reshape modern rugby

In the short, sharp world of modern rugby, New Zealand and South Africa have ripped up the form book: the long, old-school tour is back.

The normal All Black schedule of hotel, gym and stadium, with the odd coffee shop visit thrown in, has been swapped for more than five weeks of rambling relatively slowly across South Africa.

Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour is already rolling in South Africa, with three out of the four midweek games played by New Zealand against provincial teams, before four Tests, including a money-spinning final game at the home of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens in the United States. The tour will return to New Zealand in 2030 and is changing modern rugby.

A majority Māori and Pacific All Blacks squad shows how far rugby’s ‘greatest rivalry’ has come

This weekend’s first test between the New Zealand All Blacks and South African Springboks will be played 105 years after the two nations first began the “greatest rivalry” in rugby in 1921.

A great deal has changed in that time, including the composition of All Blacks teams and the players’ eligibility to tour the formerly apartheid republic.

In 2026, well over half the squad of 44 have Māori or Pacific ethnic backgrounds.

That would have been impossible 66 years ago when the 1960 All Blacks team toured South Africa. In fact, only 18 of the current squad would have been able to travel back then.

Greatest Rivalry tour: New Zealand in South Africa is rugby's next chapter

New Zealand are unbeaten in the warm-up games on their tour of South Africa

That is what separated South Africa and New Zealand in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final, as the Springboks went back-to-back to become the first nation to win the tournament four times.

Rassie Erasmus' world champions sit top of the rankings and have also won back-to-back Rugby Championships. They are indisputably the game's dominant force.

Their predecessors as rugby union's supreme team were the All Blacks, who won their own back-to-back World Cups, in 2011 and 2015.

The landscape may have changed and their roles may have reversed of late, but they remain the game's most glamourous and marketable teams.

XPeng L03 Europe pricing: SUV coupe from 35,600 euros

For a while, the pitch from China's electric brands was simple: undercut everyone. XPeng's new L03 shows how far that has moved on. Yes, it is cheap, opening at 35,600 euros across Europe, but it also brings long range, genuine performance versions and a range-extender option that answers the one question electric sceptics always ask. This is a budget car with a very grown-up spread of choices.

The L03 sits below the G6 as XPeng's entry model, an SUV coupe measuring 4.65 metres with a long 2,850 mm wheelbase and five seats. Europe gets four fully electric versions. The Standard Range rear-wheel-drive opens at 35,600 euros with a 58.3 kWh battery, 245 hp and up to 445 km of WLTP range. The Long Range RWD, at 38,600 euros, uses a 71.2 kWh battery for up to 520 km. Above them sit two dual-motor all-wheel-drive cars, the Performance at 41,600 euros and the Performance Ultra at 46,600 euros, with up to 382 hp. All can DC fast-charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes.
