AMD shares soar 12% on no company news. Here's what has investors so excited

Intel's latest earnings report showed big demand for central processing units, or CPUs, as companies rush to build out their artificial intelligence capabilities, sending its stock surging. The numbers led investors to scoop up shares of another major chipmaker: Advanced Micro Devices.

AMD shares soared more than 12% on Friday as Wall Street analysts were caught off guard by Intel's CPU performance — which they believe will translate to other big CPU makers.

"We figured CPUs were the next big bottleneck, but Intel's results indicate that is already translating to very significant upside," D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria wrote in a Friday note. "The CPU is reinserting itself as an indispensable foundation of the AI era, and the once sleepy CPU market has taken off as agentic workloads shift compute needs" beyond graphics processing units produced by companies such as Nvidia.

Intel’s earnings send fellow CPU sellers Arm and AMD higher

A strong set of Q1 results and Q2 guidance from Intel is sending shares of fellow CPU sellers Arm Holdings and Advanced Micro Devices about 6% and 4% higher in postmarket trading, respectively.

Intel’s robust report is seemingly a rising tide that lifts all boats in the industry, not just a company-specific dynamic.

Arm recently pivoted to designing and selling CPUs for data center customers (like Meta!) in addition to its long-standing business of licensing out the design architecture.

And AMD, of course, has been a well-established giant in the space before it ever started offering GPUs.

It’s the latest reminder that the AI boom isn’t just juicing demand for the most advanced chips, but also memory, older-school units, and a wide array of hardware.

Stifel's top analyst hikes AMD's target to $320: should you buy?

https://invezz.com/news/2026/04/24/stifels-top-analyst-hikes-amds-target-to-320-should-you-buy/Advanced Micro Devices AMD drew fresh support from Wall Street this week after a new bullish call from Stifel.

The key question for investors now is how much upside remains following the stock’s sharp rally.

Stifel analyst Ruben Roy raised his AMD price target to $320 from $280 and kept a Buy rating.

At AMD’s last trade of $305.33 on Friday, that new target implies only about 4.8% upside from here.

The case from Stifel is straightforward, as AMD is no longer being treated as just a cyclical chip name.

Roy’s upgrade is tied to multi-gigawatt commitments from Meta and OpenAI, which gives the call a specific AI-infrastructure rationale rather than a generic momentum trade.

We brought you the news earlier that 81 unopened ballot papers for the seat of Narungga had been found, weeks after the South Australian election.

Narungga was one of the four lower house seats Pauline Hanson’s One Nation picked up at the 21 March poll, with Chantelle Thomas winning by a wafer-thin margin of 58.

The South Australian electoral commission has now counted those votes and found the outcome has not changed.

In fact, Thomas’s margin has increased from 58 to 74 votes, dashing the hopes of the Liberal candidate, Tania Stock.

Australian ex-soldier Roberts-Smith granted bail in Afghan war crimes case

Former Australian special forces soldier Ben Roberts-Smith has been granted bail after spending 10 days in prison over alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.

The 47-year-old was released on Friday after a judge said he would face “years and years” in prison before his case went to trial.

Roberts-Smith, who was awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross in 2011, was arrested in Sydney last week and charged with murdering five people in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2012.

Speaking after the ex-soldier was detained, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Krissy Barrett said that “it will be alleged the victims were not taking part in hostilities at the time of their alleged murder in Afghanistan”.

Mr Roberts-Smith's parents attended the hearing, and a number of supporters gathered outside court.

War veteran Ben Roberts-Smith has been granted bail after spending more than a week in custody over allegations of war crimes.

Golden State Warriors center Al Horford turned back the clock and delivered a memorable performance against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors completed a come-from-behind victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, 126-121, in the Play-In Tournament at Intuit Dome on Wednesday to keep their flat-lining season alive.

MrBeast charity livestream was the 'most uncomfortable' experience ever, says Twitch star

A major personality expressed discomfort with the way Jimmy Donaldson pressured YouTube and Twitch creators to donate

In April 2025, YouTube celebrity Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson held his first-ever Kick livestream to raise $5 million for a philanthropic campaign aiming to bring clean water to millions of people. The cause was a noble one, but the event had a gimmick: the stream would not end until Donaldson was able to attain the full amount of money. Nearly a year later, one Twitch streamer who was pulled into the stunt is deriding it.

According to Twitch Tracker as of April 2026 Jynxzi — known for Rainbow Six Siege — has the second-most active subscribers on Twitch, narrowly trailing first place. Though Jynxzi participated in Donaldson's event eight months ago, he commented on the affair in response to a recent YouTube video about him.

MrBeast responds after Jynxzi calls TeamWater stream “excruciating”

Streamer Jynxzi has criticized MrBeast’s TeamWater charity fundraising livestream, calling it “uncomfortable” and accusing it of pressuring creators to donate on camera.

The streamer, revisiting the 2025 charity stream on which he was called and encouraged to donate, shared his thoughts on the event in an April 2026 stream, stating that, while the cause itself was worthwhile, the way the stream played out didn’t sit right with him.

“One of the most uncomfortable, weird streams of all time. Basically, this is all the stream was. MrBeast pressuring people into donating to TeamWater, which is a great cause, but at the end of the day let’s be honest,” Jynxzi said.

CBS has renewed Dick Wolf’s “CIA” series for a second season. Marvel's 'Blade' Star Joins Mark Ruffalo in Season 2 of HBO's Best Crime Series

Mark Ruffalo is about to clash with another Marvel star in Philadelphia. Mahershala Ali, the lead of the MCU's long-gestating Blade movie, has been tapped for a major role opposite the Incredible Hulk in Season 2 of the hit series Task at HBO. Other than the four-time Oscar nominee, who led the crime drama to widespread acclaim last year, Ali is the first cast member to be officially confirmed for its sophomore outing. It'll mark a return to the premium cable network for him after the two-time Oscar winner's role in Season 3 of True Detective back in 2019.

Not much is known about Task Season 2 so far, but Ali's casting adds a bit of clarity about what's next for Ruffalo's FBI agent Tom Brandis. After Season 1 put Brandis at the helm of a task force to crack down on a spree of violent robberies and forced him to confront his own family tragedy, he's now set to helm a new task force that becomes more complicated as he digs deeper. The more he uncovers, the harder it is to determine who the real target is. Ali will play Eddie Barnes, who is described as "a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia" whose unit clashes with Brandis's team as their operation unfolds.

Casting News: Task Adds Mahershala Ali, Succession Alum Joins HBO Comedy, And More

Mahershala Ali is joining the cast of the acclaimed HBO crime drama for Season 2, Variety reports. He'll play Eddie Barnes, "a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Tom's unit."

Ali joins an ensemble that includes Mark Ruffalo, who led the Season 1 cast as FBI agent Tom Brandis. In Season 2, "Tom Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who's the target," per the official logline.

Hailing from "Mare of Easttown" creator Brad Ingelsby, "Task" debuted last September with a seven-episode freshman season. (Check out our finale post mortem with Ruffalo and Ingelsby here.) It earned a Season 2 renewal in November, with Ruffalo and Ingelsby set to return.

The Albanese government has suffered a major legal blow against its monitoring of NZYQ-affected noncitizens after the high court ruled this morning its ankle monitoring and curfew regime were invalid.

The high court’s chief justice, Stephen Gageler AC, ruled the monitoring conditions imposed on the group of 300-plus noncitizens, often referred to as the NZYQ cohort, who were released from indefinite detention following an earlier ruling in November 2023 were invalid.

Following the release of more than 300 people from detention centres, the government passed laws to impose ankle bracelets and curfew on anyone risking community safety. Those laws were struck down by the high court in November 2024 before the government passed amendments to put them back in place until now.
