'Now there's the threat of executions' in Iran

Anti-government protests have continued in Iran with thousands feared dead after the government crackdown on demonstrators.

One protester, 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, will reportedly be "executed tomorrow", with the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights saying they "have never witnessed a case move so quickly".

The protests, which began in Tehran on 28 December, were sparked by the collapse of the Iranian currency.

Tropical Cyclone Koji is set to make landfall in Queensland's far north, threatening to unleash more flooding in the region.

Heavy rain and damaging winds are expected when the category one storm crosses the coast between Townsville and Bowen on Sunday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the system is likely to bring wind gusts of up to 120km/h and intense rainfall that could cause dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding between Townsville and Proserpine.

Thousands affected as suspected copper thieves cut cables in cyclone warning zone

Authorities suspect copper thieves cut fibre cables which affected phone and internet services in Townsville suburbs.

It comes as residents have been told to take shelter as a tropical cyclone makes its way towards the north Queensland coast.

Thousands of north Queensland residents within a tropical cyclone warning zone were without telecommunications services for hours after suspected copper thieves cut cables.

Providers say some mobile and internet services were affected for residents in the Townsville suburbs of Mt Low, Bluewater, Black River, Toolakea and Saunders Beach after fibre cables at a mobile site were cut.

A Telstra spokesperson said mobile services are now back online in Mt Low, Bluewater, Black River and Saunders Beach after technicians removed over 7 kilometres of damaged fibre by hand in two locations in tough weather conditions.

Ange Postecoglou now candidate for Premier League return as SOS call nears in latest crisis

Ange Postecoglou continues to see his name linked with a return to management.

Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham in June despite leading Spurs to Europa League glory the month prior, ending a 17-year trophy drought.

Postecoglou was then embarrassingly dismissed after 39 days by Nottingham Forest, with the Athens-born Australian failing to win any of his eight games in charge, losing six.

Still, there appears to be clamour for his services, with his former club Celtic among those linked with Postecoglou should they part ways with the under-fire Wilfried Nancy.

And there is a possibility that one of Spurs’ biggest rivals could now make a move, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

What Ange Postecoglou has said about returning as Celtic manager

It is safe to say that the majority of the Celtic fanbase wants the club to show Wilfried Nancy the exit door. The Frenchman has lost five out of the seven games since taking charge of the Hoops. But it looks like the board is ready to stick with their choice for the time being, rather than changing direction and admitting their mistake.

At some point, common sense will need to prevail though. If Nancy ends up guiding Celtic to defeat at the hands of the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby this weekend at Parkhead, there might very well be no way back for him, no matter how much they want to see the Frenchman succeed.

Ange Postecoglou back in contention at crisis club as odds revealed for his next job

Ange Postecoglou is a man who is still seemingly in demand as he seeks a return to management.

Athens-born Postecoglou led Tottenham to Europa League glory in May but was sacked by Daniel Levy just a month later after Spurs toiled to a 17th-placed finish.

Postecoglou was then embarrassingly sacked by Nottingham Forest after just 39 days in charge, and he has been out of work since.

With 2025 being a decidedly mixed year for the Australian, Postecoglou has yet to indicate when he will be looking to throw himself back into the public eye.

But it seems as though he could still be in the thoughts of a club desperately looking to get themselves out of a crisis in the coming weeks.

‘Nuremberg’: Read The Screenplay For The Post-WWII Drama From James Vanderbilt That Puts Evil On Trial

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked about scripts continues with Nuremberg, writer-director James Vanderbilt‘s edge-of-the-seat courtroom drama that centers on the real-life work at the end of World War II to bring the Nazi regime to justice.

Vanderbilt adapted the screenplay from Jack El-Hai’s nonfiction book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, which spotlighted the work done by Army psychiatrist Lt. Col. Kelley (played by Oscar winner Rami Malek), who was tasked with evaluating Nazi officials — including the powerful Hermann Göring (fellow Oscar winner Russell Crowe), the highest-ranking Nazi left after Hitler’s death at war’s end — over their mental fitness to participate in what would become known as the Nuremberg trials.

The new WW2 film fans are calling an 'instant classic'

A new World War Two film has been dubbed an instant classic, with it becoming a big hit with viewers and earning an impressive score on film review website Rotten Tomatoes. Nuremberg, first released on September 7, 2025, at the Toronto International Film Festival, is a psychological thriller and historical drama based on the 2013 book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai.

The Rotten Tomatoes synopsis of the film written and directed by James Vanderbilt reads: "As the Nuremberg trials are set to begin, a US Army psychiatrist gets locked in a dramatic psychological showdown with accused Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring."

Where is Andy Ruiz Jr. now? The story after famous Anthony Joshua upset and current boxing hiatus

Anthony Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, has become one of the most well-known boxers in the world, a career that was sparked by a perfect 22-0 record through age 29. But in June 2019, his trajectory changed a bit.

Joshua lost his first professional match in a massive upset to Andy Ruiz Jr., and he followed that with back-to-back losses. While Joshua has gone on to reassert himself in some ways, carrying a career record of 28-4, Ruiz hasn't made much noise in the boxing world since then.

In fact, since his rematch against Anthony Joshua, Andy Ruiz Jr. has participated in just three professional fights.

I masterminded Anthony Joshua's shock loss – here's my advice to Jake Paul

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Anthony Joshua has been to the United States for a fight he was expected to easily win once before, and left the victim of an upset which sent shockwaves through boxing.

The mastermind of Joshua's downfall has told ESPN how he plotted it, and whether Jake Paul stands any chance of repeating the shock which ended the former world heavyweight champion's first reign.

Andy Ruiz is a name that will forever remain in the minds of boxing fans everywhere for what he did in June 2019. Shocks rarely come bigger than the one that occurred in Madison Square Garden — an arena that has seen its fair share of famous sporting moments. To make it even more shocking, Ruiz was a late replacement for Jarrell Miller in the lead up to the fight.

Residents told to ‘act now’ as thunderstorms hit WA

A storm advice has been issued to West Aussies urging residents to act now to stay safe.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued the alert just before 11am on Wednesday, advising people in Northam, Dowerin, Gingin, Wongan Hills, Armadale and Beverley to prepare now.

“You need to act now and stay safe with severe weather forecast including damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall from late this morning, persisting through the afternoon,” the alert stated.

The wind “may cause damage to homes and property”, and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services is warning locals to secure and tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.
