Australian Open Men’s Day 3 Predictions Including Karen Khachanov vs Alex Michelsen

The first round of the Australian Open wraps up on Day 3 as some of the top players in the world make their 2026 Melbourne debuts. No. 15 seed Karen Khachanov squares off against young American Alex Michelsen. Elsewhere around the grounds, Day 3 welcomes Jannik Sinner vs Hugo Gaston, Ben Shelton vs Ugo Humbert, Lorenzo Musetti vs Raphael Collignon, and Taylor Fritz vs Valentin Royer. Offering their insights and predictions are Zain Mustafa, Ilemona Onekutu, and Shane Black. But who will advance?

    Zain
The last time in his career down under, Gael Monfils showed in 2025 that he is willing to save his best tennis for the Majors, despite an injury risk looming in every match he enters. Dane Sweeny has been playing decent tennis recently, but this may be one of the rare cases where the crowd supports an icon over their home player, and why not extend Monfils’ stay in Melbourne for one more match.
    Prediction: Monfils in 5

Australian Open tennis preview and pick: Khachanov vs. Darderi

Karen Khachanov and Luciano Darderi will be squaring off for the first time in their careers when they clash in round three of the Australian Open on Saturday.Darderi is playing great right now, but he is the essence of a clay-court specialist. All four of the Argentine’s titles have come on the red stuff and prior to this fortnight he had won only two total matches at the two hard-court Grand Slams throughout his career.Khachanov, on the other hand, is a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist (including at the Aussie Open) and has reached four other major quarterfinals. The Russian has looked good so far in Melbourne, ousting tough Americans Alex Michelsen and Nishesh Basavareddy.Pick: Khachanov in 4 #ays-poll-id-6973f7206af68.box-apm { width: 600px; margin: 0 auto !important; The victory extends Paul’s flawless head-to-head record against Davidovich Fokina to 5-0 and continues a bizarre statistical trend in Melbourne, where the Spaniard has now lost five consecutive 6-1 sets to the American across their tournament meetings.

Australian Open Day 5 Women’s Predictions Including Naomi Osaka vs Sorana Cirstea

The second round wraps up on Day 5 of the Australian Open. We have 16 women’s singles matches on deck to decide who reaches Round 3. As always, our writers at LastWordOnTennis share their thoughts on the matches. We split the 16 matches between four articles. In addition to this article, the others feature Iga Swiatek vs Marie Bouzkova, Amanda Anisimova vs Katerina Siniakova, and Madison Keys vs Ashlyn Krueger. Predicting these matches are Nurein Ahmed, Zain Mustafa, and Jordan Reynolds. Who do you think will advance to Round 3?

    Nurein:
Uchijima beat an in-form Solana Sierra quite convincingly and that result might just give Mertens some thinking to do. That said, the Belgian remains resolute and gritty on this surface and any hesitation to finish points by Uchijima will be punished.
    Prediction: Mertens in 2

Naomi Osaka vs. Sorana Cirstea Prediction, Odds and Best Bets (Australian Open 2026, Round of 64, January 22)

Over a decade after their first meeting on the WTA Tour, Naomi Osaka and Sorana Cirstea will square off in the Australian Open 2026 Round of 64. The Japanese starlet walked onto Rod Laver Arena with a stunning look in her opener, and will be looking to prolong her journey at one of her most successful tournaments. But with Cirstea being a two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and former World No. 21, this is not a comfortable match-up by any stretch of imagination.

Naomi Osaka knows how to make an entrance! 🤩 pic.twitter.com/lxQrNz1oRq

Osaka beat a resilient Antonia Ruzic 6-3 3-6 6-4 in Round-1. She is a former World No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam champion. Having won this tournament in 2019 and 2021, Osaka has a chance of springing some surprises this week. The 28-year-old entered with a 1-1 record at the United Cup. For someone like Cirstea to overcome the 16th seed, the Romanian will need to punch above her World No. 41 ranking. However, she reached the pre-quarters in Brisbane and produced a scintillating comeback vs Eva Lys here in Melbourne.

It is no secret that Jay Chou is obsessed with tennis. Just check out his Instagram, where the Mandopop King regularly shares about his tennis journey.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday (Jan 12), Chou surprised fans when he announced that he would be “competing” at the Australian Open.

He also added that if he wins, he will donate the entire A$1 million (S$862,500) prize money to charity.

Before anyone starts picturing Chou lifting a Grand Slam trophy besides the greats, let’s clarify. He is participating in the tennis tournament's special exhibition event called 1 Point Slam, a fast-paced, winner-takes-all format where a single point decides the match.

Jay Chou draws cheers at Australian Open One Point Slam before swift first-round defeat

Taiwanese singer-songwriter and actor Jay Chou was gracious in defeat at the One Point Slam event.

Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou’s time at the Australian Open One Point Slam turned out to be one of his briefest lengths spent on any stage or arena for the well-versed performer.

Playing the one-point, winner-takes-all first round against 24-year-old Australian Petar Jovic, Chou did not manage to get a hit of the ball at the famed Rod Laver Arena when his opponent hit an ace to the singer’s right.

One point is all it takes in the One Point Slam, an exhibition tournament that has tennis amateurs and pros facing off, meaning Chou did not get to show off the fruit of his labour from practising with 20-time grand slam champion Roger Federer in Shanghai.

0:5, koszmar Huberta Hurkacza w Australian Open! Było tyle okazji. Niestety

Sensacja w meczu Hurkacza z Amerykaninem. Demolka na koniec w Melbourne

Na czwartek zaplanowano dokończenie zmagań w drugiej rundzie singla podczas Australian Open 2026. Organizatorzy wielkoszlemowych zmagań przewidzieli na dziś m.in. pojedynki Igi Świątek i Huberta Hurkacza.

28-latek potrzebował sporo czasu, by się rozkręcić. Niewiele brakowało, a Belg prowadziłby 2-0 w setach.

The first month of the year is usually a special time for Perth's Linda Inglis and her family and this January is already one to savour.

In-form young wildcard Taylah Preston and inspired wildcard Maddison Inglis have led the women's home hopes to their best start to an Australian Open campaign in 34 years.

Mighty victories for veteran James Duckworth and never-say-die Dane Sweeny on day three also guaranteed the bumper Australian contingent its equal-most successful opening to the Melbourne Park major this century.

But Preston's life-changing 6-3 2-6 6-3 victory over Zhang Shuai and Inglis's epic, three-hour, past-midnight 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 win over compatriot Kim Birrell ensured six Australian females will feature in the second round of the Open for the first time since 1992.
