French Open 2026: Rybakina out, Swiatek and Djokovic advance on day four – as it happened

Women’s No 2 seed Elena Rybakina was ejected by Yuliia Starodubtseva, while there were wins for Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic

That, then, is us done for the day. Thanks all for your company, enjoy your evening, and à demain!

Emotions are different when you win, says Djokovic, and the match was a big one for him, in conditions difficult for both players. He congratulates Royer for playing really well, especially in the third set and when he served for the match, but these are the kinds of matches which provide the challenges and he hopes he doesn’t meet another Frenchman. He’s played two matches and feels like he’s played for two weeks.

French Open 2026: Swiatek through, Djokovic and Svitolina in action on day four – live

Women’s No 2 seed Elena Rybakina was ejected by Yuliia Starodubtseva, while there were wins for Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic

At 4-4 in the breaker, Khachanov retrieves a drop then, somehow, drags a forehand from behind him and over his shoulder, down the line, that Trungelliti can’t get back, the clenched fist he raises to the crowd well earned. And an unretrurned serve then raises another match point; can Khachanov stay focused this time?

Immediately, Trungelleti nets to cede a mini-break, but a drop that lands just over the net is followed by fast feet which allow a backhand winner down the line; Khachanov leads 2-1, soon made 2-2. On Mathieu, though, we’ve reached the end of our first competitive set, Rublev securing it to lead Carabelli 6-1 1-6 6-3. He’s playing pretty well – and he’s being made to.

French Open Men’s Day 5 Predictions Including Arthur Rinderknech vs Matteo Berrettini

The stage is set for an exciting fifth day at the French Open with 16 intriguing matches scheduled across the grounds at Roland Garros. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Frances Tiafoe vs Hubert Hurkacz, Ben Shelton vs Raphael Collignon, and Jannik Sinner vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo. But who will secure their spot in the third round?

Tope: Arthur Rinderknech shook off an early scare to secure an opening-round win and he’ll fancy his chances again at home, where his serve can turn matches into quick-fire contests. But Matteo Berrettini brings a different level of firepower, having roared back from a set down against Fucsovics and finished like a man in full control. Their only previous meeting ended prematurely, so there’s unfinished business here, and with both men leaning heavily on service games, I’ll side with the man with the bigger serve.

French Open R2 previews and predictions: Rinderknech vs. Berrettini, Shelton vs. Collignon

Second-round action at Roland Garros on Thursday brings Matteo Berrettini up against home crowd favorite Arthur Rinderknech. Ben Shelton faces Belgium’s Raphael Collignon in what could be a tricky afternoon for the American.

Matteo Berrettini is not the player you want to run into on clay in the second round, regardless of what the rankings say. The Italian comes in unseeded and ranked 107th, but his 70-28 career clay record means he’s a factor as long as he’s healthy. Against Marton Fucsovics in the first round, Berrettini was shaky out of the gate before winning three sets in a row as his serve and forehand found their groove. That pattern of warming up slowly and then taking over is vintage Berrettini. His best Roland Garros result was a quarterfinal run in 2021. The courts are playing faster than usual this week, with the heat drying the clay out — which benefits his natural aggression.

🎾 Updates from the fifth day’s play at Roland Garros
🎾 Mensik: playing in Paris heat ‘insane’ | Mail Daniel

Sinner breaks Cerudolo again to lead 6-3 4-1, and he’ll soon be back in the locker room, so too Cobolli, who leads Wu 6-4 6-4 4-3. Otherwise, Tiafoe leads Hurkacz 2-1 with a break, Diaz acosta now leads Tien 5-7 6-4 5-3, Faria leads Struff 7-5 7-6 2-0 and Svajda leads Walton 6-3 6-4 5-6 on serve.

Back on Lenglen, Kouame – another it’s hard to see losing –holds for 6-5, then reaches 30-40 and set point, varying the trajectory and pace of his forehands … before exploding into a backhand winner, sent from centre to corner, inside-in! It’s a fantastic shot but more than that, a fantastic rally, totally controlled by a 17-year-old who looks terrifyingly complete. So he strikes what has already come to be his pose, right hand cupping an ear and left arm stretched across his body, hand on heart. This is amazing, affirming and inspiring to watch, a young man announcing himself to the world like it’s his; this is so overjoying I barely know what to do with myself and Kouame leads 6-3 7-5.

French Open 2026: Osaka and Gauff through; Medvedev crashes out on boiling day three – live

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Ok, that’s it for it our day three coverage of the French Open. Keep your eyes peeled out for Tumaini Carayol’s updates from Roland Garros. Earlier he saw the talented French teenager Moïse Kouamé beat Marin Cilic in front of a raptuous Court Simonne Mathieu:

After taking the second set, home favourite Diane Parry is down a break in the third against Anhelina Kalinina, it’s currently 2-0 to the Ukrainian in that decider on Chatrier. On Court 7, 14th seed Luciano Darderi was serving for the first set at 5-4 against Sebastian Ofner of Austria, but failed to see it off and has been broken back.

French Open 2026: Sabalenka and Kouame win; Medvedev in action on sweltering day three – live

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Osaka holds for 1-0 but, more generally, where is she going? When she lost a close one she should’ve won, against Swiatek in 2024, I thought she was fully back, but it’s not quite worked out that way. She does still have time, though, and if she finds her best form she can beat anyone. She leads Siegemund 1-0.

Moise Kouame, though. At 17, I was still being a moron in school – yes, and everywhere else I went. It’s probably for the best I didn’t have the talent of a top tenniser, but he very much does and I’d not be at all surprised if he goes a bit further – it’s Norrie or Vallejo next, then Tabilo, Vaucherot or Faurel after that.

Djokovic presses home his advantage, holding for 5-2, and Royer might just’ve run out of puff. After change of ends, he’ll serve to stay in the match.

Prizmic, of course, beat Berrettini and Shelton in Madrid, then Djokovic in Rome, which is to say a grand slam performance of this quality was coming. I think he’ll need to fill out and develop more power if he’s to become a factor in the second week of majors, but I really like his speed and aggression.

French Open R1 previews and predictions: Tien vs. Garin, Auger-Aliassime vs. Altmaier

American Learner Tien is among the headliners on Tuesday at the French Open, arriving as the 18th seed following his Geneva title last week. Fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime faces a tricky opener against Daniel Altmaier.

Learner Tien arrives at Roland Garros in the best form of his young career. The 20-year-old claimed the Geneva Open title just days ago, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Bublik, and Mariano Navone (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) along the way — and in doing so became the youngest American to win a tour-level clay title since his coach, Michael Chang, won the French Open back in 1989. He moved to a career-high No. 18 in the world and brings momentum onto the red clay of Paris.

WTA French Open First Round Best Bets Including Maya Joint vs Anastasia Potapova

The WTA French Open action continues on Monday. The 2026 edition of Roland Garros goes into the second day of first-round competition. The first round started on Sunday and will end on Tuesday, as the field goes from 128 down to 64. There are so many matches and stories to keep track of. Which top seeds are in danger? Which floaters in the draw will begin to pick up momentum, which could flow into the rest of the tournament? These and other interesting questions will soon be answered. LWOS has our best bets for three matches on Monday. Post your best bets and thoughts in the comments.

Anastasia Potapova faces Maya Joint in French Open first round at Paris

Anastasia Potapova enters her French Open first-round matchup against Maya Joint on May 25, 2026, carrying a decisive edge in clay-court mastery and recent form. The 28-ranked Austrian boasts a 65.8% win rate on clay courts over her career, while the 20-year-old Australian faces this encounter struggling through a form crisis that has seen her win just 2 of her last 11 matches—with zero clay wins in 2026. The two players have never met, setting up an intriguing first encounter at Roland Garros.

Anastasia Potapova has built her reputation as one of the tour’s most reliable clay-court competitors. Her 65.8% win-loss record on clay reflects not just comfort on the surface, but genuine expertise in the nuances of play on the red dirt. This season, she has posted a 21-12 overall record, with notable recent victories over Lilli Tagger and Donna Vekic in April—both solid opponents that demonstrate her capacity to handle top competition. At age 25, Potapova brings maturity and experience to Roland Garros, having competed at the tournament for multiple years. Her pathway to a strong performance at Paris is built on clay-surface proficiency that few on the women’s tour can match.

Zheng Qinwen could face a tough draw at the French Open this weekend, after crashing out of the top 50 for the first time in almost four years.

A drop of 21 spots in the latest rankings, which were released on Monday, has sent Zheng to 53rd in the world, meaning she will be unseeded for the year’s second grand slam.

The Olympic gold medallist, who won at Roland Garros during the 2024 Games in Paris, could now face the likes of 2025 runner-up Aryna Sabalenka or four-time winner Iga Swiatek in the first or second round.

Memorial Day 2026: What's open and closed including banks, post offices and retail stores

Memorial Day is often considered the unofficial start of summer. This year, the holiday falls on Monday, May 25.

Before you head out this Memorial Day, you might want to take note of what stores and businesses will be open or closed. Although many retail and grocery stores will keep their doors open (with some even offering holiday sales), most corporate offices, government agencies and banks will not be operating on Monday since it is a federal holiday.

Memorial Day is a bank holiday in the Federal Reserve System, so most bank branches will be closed.

Online banking and ATMs will still be accessible. The stock market will also be closed.

Is Walmart open or closed on Memorial Day? Here's what to know

Memorial Day is here, and whether you need to do some grocery shopping for the week ahead or just need to make a last-minute trip to grab some refreshments or grilling materials, consumers should have plenty of options.

Most restaurants, grocery stores and national retailers will remain open on Monday, May 25.

However banks, post offices, shipping services and the stock market will be closed because Memorial Day is a federal holiday.

Walmart will be an option for shoppers, as its stores will operate under regular hours on Memorial Day, the company confirmed to USA TODAY. Most Walmart locations are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

As the nation prepares to celebrate Memorial Day, many might be asking what will be still open or closed in observance of the holiday.

Here are the businesses and offices that will be closed to honor the country's veterans.

Yes, Memorial Day is an official federal holiday in the United States.

Most of FedEx's pickup and delivery services will not be available on Memorial Day, according to the company's website. FedEx Office hours will also be modified, so it is best to check with your local store for their specific hours.

Walmart typically keeps its stores open on Memorial Day, operating during regular or slightly adjusted hours. Most supercenters open around 7:00 a.m. and close by 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 p.m., while smaller Walmart Neighborhood Markets may have slightly different schedules.

French Open Day 1 Men’s Predictions Including Tomas Machac vs Zizou Bergs

The opening day at Roland Garros, the 2026 French Open, offers another intriguing slate of first-round matches, with a mix of experienced campaigners, rising prospects, and players hoping to rediscover form on clay. As always, our writers share their thoughts and predictions for each matchup.

    Cizu Harbor:
Machac is quite a player, but rarely seems to put together a sustained high level across tournaments. Bergs is certainly capable of causing him trouble and has the game to make this competitive. However, Machac feels more likely to struggle later in events rather than in the opening round, which gives the Czech the edge here.
