    CrossFit Open Workout 26.2 Analysis

The second workout of the 2026 CrossFit Open, presented by Air National Guard, featured alternating dumbbell snatches, dumbbell overhead walking lunges, pull-ups, chest-to-bar pull-ups, and muscle-ups. The muscle-ups were on the rings, which is a change compared to the bar muscle-ups we saw during the past two Opens. The workout had a stiff 15-minute time cap, and athletes who did not finish posted scores of how many reps they completed along with tiebreak times.

There were some obvious similarities between this workout and Open Workout 25.2, which also included these pulling movements with increasing difficulty, but paired with a different set of supporting movements.

A vote to force President Donald Trump to pull back from the war in Iran failed to pass in the U.S. Senate Wednesday. The resolution faced plenty of hurdles and was largely symbolic, as Trump was almost certain to veto it. French President Emmanuel Macron has said that France will increase its number of nuclear warheads and promised more cooperation with European allies that have expressed interest. That's "the most significant update to French nuclear deterrence policy in 30 years," according to an analyst.

A prolonged conflict in the Middle East will dent India's remittance flows enough to impact its economy. The Indian diaspora in the Gulf countries contributes nearly 38% to India's total remittance inflows, according to a Citi report. Based on the inflows of $135.4 billion in the financial year 2025, the share of Gulf countries is $51.4 billion. To put it in perspective: India's total trade surplus with the U.S. was $58.2 billion in 2025.

As the War in the Middle East expands and rhetoric from the US and Iran continues to be antagonistic, the world is speculating about how long this will go on for and what the wider implications will be.

Azerbaijan on Friday became the latest country drawn in, as it accused Iran of firing drones at its territory and ordered its southern airspace closed for 12 hours. Iran, which has a significant Azeri minority, denied it had targeted its neighbour, but the episode underlined how rapidly the war has spread since the surprise US and Israeli airstrikes that killed Khamenei on Saturday.

Is the Middle East caught in an unstoppable 'escalation trap' of all-out war?

In just twenty four hours, a US submarine has torpedoed an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean. Turkey, a NATO member state, has shot down an Iranian ballistic missile. And while Israel hammered Tehran and southern Lebanon with fresh rounds of strikes, Trump is considering arming Kurdish forces. The death toll is climbing into the thousands. Has the US and Israel's military campaign against Iran spiralled into a war beyond anyone's control?

Hamish Macdonald and Geraldine Doogue return to Beirut to speak with Kim Ghattas about the rapidly escalating war in the Middle East, and whether Iran has already been caught in a self-perpetuating 'escalation trap'.

Pakistan declares 'open war' against Afghanistan as Kabul hit by air strikes

Pakistan has bombed major cities in Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul.

The Pakistani defence minister declared the neighbours were at "open war" following months of clashes.

Islamabad says Pakistani Taliban leaders operate from Afghan territory and use it as a safe haven to plan attacks inside Pakistan, a charge the Afghan Taliban denies.

Pakistan has carried out air strikes in Kabul and two other Afghan provinces, according to a spokesperson for Afghanistan's government.

The strikes came early on Friday, local time, hours after Afghanistan launched a cross-border attack on Pakistan, in the latest escalation of violence between the neighbouring countries that has made a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky.

Escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours makes a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky

Pakistan bombed Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul and two other provinces on Friday, hours after a cross-border attack, the latest escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours who signed a Qatar-mediated ceasefire in 2025.

Following months of tit-for-tat clashes, Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops on Thursday night in what the Taliban government said was retaliation for earlier deadly air strikes.

Hours later, at least three explosions were heard in Kabul on Friday morning, but there was no immediate information on the exact location of the strikes in the Afghan capital, or of any potential casualties.

Afghanistan launches attacks against Pakistan, draws ‘immediate response’

Afghanistan says ‘large-scale offensive operations’ launched; Pakistan reports inflicting ‘heavy casualties’ in border clashes.

Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities say they have launched attacks against Pakistan’s military positions along their border in response to Pakistani air strikes last week, as Pakistan said its forces had retaliated.

The media office of Afghanistan’s military corps in the east said in a statement that “heavy clashes” began late on Thursday “in response to the recent air strikes carried out by Pakistani forces in Nangarhar and Paktia” provinces.

“In response ‌to repeated provocations and violations by Pakistani military circles, large-scale offensive operations have been launched against Pakistani military positions and installations along the Durand Line,” Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid wrote in a post on X.

Explore the latest developments concerning The Australian Open.

The Australian Open vs. the U.S. Open: A Yank’s-Eye View

MELBOURNE — I’ve been fortunate to attend 14 U.S. Opens—and the last three as a credentialed member of the media—so I am familiar with the operations of that tournament, down to details such as the approximate time of day that the sun goes behind the Western bleachers of Court 17. Hence, I was excited to head down under this year for my first Australian Open and get a fresh tennis viewing experience.

The Australian Open has developed a reputation for being as much a festival as it is a sporting event, and the party vibe at Melbourne Park outside of the tennis courts was immediately apparent. Between lawn recliners, bean bag chairs and open grassy areas, there are nearly a dozen spaces where people comfortably congregate to watch tennis on big screens mounted outside the courts. That doesn’t even include the massive dining area or the fan entertainment zone, both of which are somewhat separated from the tennis-focused areas of the grounds.

Attending The Australian Open From The USA Is Actually Cheaper Than Traveling To Go To The U.S. Open

You might be coming in from a cold northern hemisphere day, watching the best tennis players in the world vie for the Australian Open title on TV, and start dreaming of your own escape to Melbourne. Maybe you ignore this desire, thinking of the expense of it all. However, I ran the numbers, and it’s actually less expensive to attend the AO than it is to attend the US Open in New York (at least from the West Coast of the USA.) Flights from California to NYC, for instance, are going to run in the $450 range roundtrip, while you can expect about $1200 round trip from San Francisco or Los Angeles. For the sake of this piece, however, we’re going to drill down into the other costs and suggest you save your miles for your Trans-Pacific flight to Australia next year.

'Extraordinary' Williams refuses to rule out return

Serena Williams has not played since losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the US Open in 2022

Serena Williams has refused to rule out returning to professional tennis after recently filing the necessary paperwork.

Williams, who won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, retired after the 2022 US Open.

In December, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed to BBC Sport that the 44-year-old was back on the list of players registered for the drug testing pool.

At the time, the American said she was "not coming back" but during an interview on the Today Show on Wednesday, Williams did not rule out stepping back on to the court.

Australian Open 2026 quarter-finals: Pegula beats Anisimova after Rybakina stuns Swiatek – as it happened

Unforced errors killed Anisimova in that opening set, the fourth seed committing 13 compared to Pegula’s six. The sixth seed also fired down six aces to her foe’s one, as well as sent down twelve winners to eight.

Jessica Pegula* (6) 6-2 Amanda Anisimova (4) New balls are delivered Pegula steps up to serve for the set. And she starts things off well with an ace.

The frustration on Anisimova is evident when she hits a backhand into the net to fall further behind but gets a lifeline when Pegula double faults. The fourth seed presses forward and fires down a big backhand return to level things and then gets a break point when Pegula drags a forehand wide.

Australian Jason Kubler has said teammate Marc Polmans carried him throughout their semi-final win and that he’ll use a day off on Friday to “shake those cobwebs” before their semi-final on Saturday night.

With breaks going both ways in the final set, Polmans in particular stood up, as the pair went on to take the match 6-3 in a little under two hours on Rod Laver Arena.
