France opens third round of EV social leasing programme

The French government will open the third funding round of its social leasing scheme for electric cars on 16 July. The programme enables low-income employees to lease an electric vehicle at subsidised rates and forms part of France’s efforts to accelerate the transition to electric mobility.

As announced in April, the French government has officially launched the third phase of its social leasing scheme for electric vehicles. The programme, known as ‘leasing social de voitures électriques,’ is primarily aimed at low-income commuters. To qualify, applicants must either travel more than 10 kilometres each day by private car or drive more than 8,000 kilometres per year for work using their own vehicle.

Heatwave hacks EV drivers can leave behind, according to Hyundai

As temperatures soar across the UK, drivers are once again resorting to familiar heatwave habits: hunting for the last shady parking space, cracking windows open a few centimetres and debating whether it's worth turning the air conditioning on.

But according to Hyundai Motor UK, electric vehicle drivers can afford to be a little more relaxed thanks to a range of features and technologies designed to make hot weather driving more comfortable and convenient.

    1. Playing 'hunt the shade' in the supermarket car park: Most motorists are familiar with driving around endlessly in search of the one parking space that's partially covered by a tree. While shade is always welcome during a heatwave, many electric vehicles allow drivers to remotely cool the cabin before they return. That means parking in direct sunlight doesn't necessarily have to result in a sweat-inducing dash back to the driver's seat when they might have remote pre-conditioning technology allowing drivers to cool the vehicle before they even open the door.

Former US president Barack Obama has opened his presidential centre in Chicago.

All living US ex-presidents attended the opening ceremony alongside celebrities including Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey.

Current President Donald Trump was not at the event, at which Mr Obama alluded to fears that US democracy is in danger.

All living US ex-presidents, with the notable absence of current White House occupant Donald Trump, have joined a star-studded line-up for the opening of Barack Obama's presidential centre in Chicago.

Mr Obama, 64, struck his trademark hopeful tone in a speech inaugurating the modernistic centre.

Obama Center opening stirs pride and unease for Chicago’s South Side amid displacement fears

South Siders voice concerns about gentrification, housing and affordability as they celebrate opening of the Obama Presidential Center

Pastor Jeffery Campbell has deep ties to Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. He was raised in the South Side neighborhood, and has served as pastor at Woodlawn Baptist Church for 22 years.

And for the past decade, he’s attempted to protect its residents from displacement and gentrification. He’s seen rising rents, residents squeezed by university development and life becoming more unaffordable. Now, there’s a new challenge: the opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center – part of a 19-acre, $850m campus – that has transformed life in the neighborhood, as well as the adjacent South Shore and Hyde Park, long before this Friday’s opening to the public.

Obama moved to tears by wife Michelle's speech at new presidential centre

Former US President Barack Obama was visibly moved as his wife Michelle Obama saluted his work during the opening of the new Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

He appeared to wipe away a tear as his wife, the former first lady, hailed his achievements in office, including his efforts to expand healthcare and his attainment of a Nobel Peace Prize.

The latter remark was widely interpreted as a jibe at his successor, Donald Trump, who has coveted the same accolade during his own time in office.

Living former presidents Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Joe Biden attended the event but Trump, who has long feuded with the Obamas, was not invited.

Joe Lando Opens Up About Living with “Dr. Quinn” Costar Jane Seymour After Losing His Home (Exclusive)

Joe Lando lost his home in the California fires — and found solace in the home of his old friend and costar, Jane Seymour

In a recent interview, the two shared what it was like living as a combined "family" of sorts

Joe Lando says losing his home in the Los Angeles fires led to an unexpected silver lining: spending seven weeks living with his longtime friend and former Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman costar, Jane Seymour.

The actor, 64, recalls that Seymour, 75, immediately opened her doors to his family after the devastating California fires destroyed his Palisades home earlier this year.

"We spend a lot of time together even when we're not working," Lando tells PEOPLE during a joint interview with Seymour from her home. "I lived here, at the house, for seven weeks, because Jane took us in when we lost our house last year. Jane took us in, so we spent a lot of time together."

Nine charts that reveal who pays more under Labor's tax changes

Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers set off a firestorm of debate with proposed tax changes. (ABC News: Matt Roberts)

Labor's plan to overhaul the tax treatment of investments has set off a firestorm of discussion, with all sorts of competing claims about what it means for people in all sorts of different circumstances.

The basic principle is simple. The government wants those who earn "capital gains" from the sale of investment properties, shares, or their own businesses to pay more tax.

They argue that these forms of income are taxed too lightly compared to wages, mostly to the benefit of the wealthy, and that the consequences have been especially pronounced in the housing market, contributing to affordability woes for young people.

Anthony Albanese will present controversial changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax to parliament on Thursday, pushing for speedy passage of the plans while flagging possible carve-outs for businesses beyond the startup sector.

Labor’s pre-election promise of a $1,000 standard tax deduction will be included in the draft laws, along with the $250 “working Australians tax offset” announced in the budget.

The prime minister wants the “core” elements of the plan through parliament by early July, setting up a challenge for the Coalition and One Nation, who would have to vote against the tax cuts if they choose to oppose the budget measures.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened mixed against regional peers and was mostly firmer against major currencies today, amid cautious market sentiment following stronger-than-expected United States jobs data.

At 8 am, however, the local unit slipped to 3.9755/9855 against the greenback from Tuesday’s close of 3.9745/9785.

Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the US Dollar Index (DXY) appears to be gaining strength, rising 0.14 per cent to 99.327 points following higher-than-expected labour market data.

He said the weekly automatic data processing (ADP) employment change rose to 42,250 from 33,000 previously.

Ringgit holds firm against major currencies despite stronger US dollar and West Asia tensions

The national currency trades in a narrow range as robust US labour data and lingering uncertainty surrounding US-Iran negotiations reinforce cautious investor sentiment across global markets

THE ringgit opened mixed against regional currencies but remained broadly firmer against several major global currencies today as investors weighed stronger-than-expected United States employment data against rising geopolitical uncertainty linked to stalled US-Iran negotiations.

At 8am, the local currency edged slightly lower against the US dollar, trading at 3.9755/9855 compared with Tuesday’s close of 3.9745/9785.

Market analysts said the modest weakness reflected renewed support for the greenback following fresh indications that the American labour market remained resilient despite broader economic uncertainties.

Ringgit Steadies Near 3.97 As Investors Track US Iran Negotiations And Oil Spike

The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar on Tuesday as market sentiment continued to focus on developments in West Asia, Bernama reported.

At 8 am, the local unit rose to 3.9705/9760 against the greenback from Monday’s close of 3.9720/9770.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said market sentiment continued to revolve around the situation in West Asia, as the United States (US) and Iran continued negotiations for a resolution, which, to a large extent, remained highly elusive.

“The latest development showed that US President Donald Trump had called off plans to attack Iran as serious negotiations with Tehran are ongoing,” he told Bernama.

How will Aryna Sabalenka fare in her 2026 clay-court debut? | Madrid Preview & Picks

While the world No. 1 begins her title defense Thursday, will either of Swiatek or Osaka's opponents spring an upset?

After nearly a month away, Sabalenka returns on a new continent and a new surface, but feeling like her old self again. When we last left her, in late March, she was on top of the tennis world. She had beaten No. 2 Elena Rybakina for the Indian Wells title, and No. 3 Coco Gauff for the Miami Open title. In the process, she had proven again that she could  keep herself in check in big-stage finals.

That leaves the 27-year-old in a familiar position: No. 1 in the world. But she’s also in an unfamiliar place. For the first time, she starts the clay season as the early favorite for the title at Roland Garros. How, if at all, that status affects her will be one of the story lines to follow over the next month. She’ll be going for her first title in Paris. This time, so far, Iga Swiatek isn’t standing in her way.

‘Beef’ Season 2 Opens With 2.4 Million Views on Netflix Top 10, Down Nearly 60% From Season 1

“Beef” Season 2 made its debut at the number 10 spot on the Netflix Top 10 this week, with the second season of the show pulling in 2.4 million views. The second season debuted on April 16, with this week’s Top 10 covering April 13-19.

By comparison, “Beef” Season 1 opened to 34.1 million hours viewed in its first week back in 2023. Netflix did not release views at that time, but the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime of Season 1 (~5 hours 52 minutes) comes out to 5.8 million views.

That is a drop off of approximately 58% between the openings of the two seasons. Season 1 peaked in its second week with 70.38 million hours viewed, which is equivalent to 12 million views.

Beef : Season 2 First Reviews: The Destination is Well Worth the Journey

The award-winning series Beef is back for a second season, and the first reviews mainly agree that it’s worth the return. Lee Sung Jin’s anthology Netflix drama delivers a new story and cast this time, with Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Cailee Spaeny, and Charles Melton leading the narrative as clashing couples employed at an exclusive country club. The show’s plot is being criticized for being too much, but the performances are said to make it another watchable installment. Fans should understand that the first season was going to be hard to top anyway.

It’s every bit the excruciating masterpiece the first season was. Everything you hoped would come back to this series does.— Kelly Lawler, USA Today

Aussie boxing superstar Jai Opetaia has finally opened up on being stripped of his IBF world title, and vowed to continue chasing unification despite being blacklisted by at least one of the sport's global bodies.

The 30-year-old Gold Coast cruiserweight took the IBF strap from Mairis Briedis with a stunning victory in front of a home crowd on Queensland's glitter strip in July 2022, famously fighting through a shattered jaw to defeat the Latvian monster.

Opetaia, who boasts an undefeated 30-fight record, successfully defended the strap six times and also added The Ring's cruiserweight title to his collection along the way.

NRL great opens up on big jail ‘wake-up call’… and ‘one thing I’ll regret my whole life’

Watch Jake Duke go Face to Face with Warriors legend Manu Vatuvei on Fox League at 7:30pm AEDT on Tuesday!

Manu Vatuvei took one of the NRL’s greatest falls from grace and came out the other side.

From New Zealand’s greatest try scorer to serving 15 months in prison, Vatuvei said getting arrested is still one of the best things to ever happen to him.

Manu Vatuvei: NRL great calls jail a ‘wake-up call’ — why his fall from grace became a reluctant turning point

manu vatuvei says the collapse from celebrated try scorer to a prison sentence for importing 500g of methamphetamine and amphetamine was both a ruinous fall and, paradoxically, “one of the best things” to happen to him — a 3 years 7 months sentence that he served one third of, released on parole after 15 months.

The central question from the interview is simple: what did the experience of arrest, conviction and incarceration actually change in manu vatuvei’s life? In a Face-to-Face interview with host Jake Duke, Manu Vatuvei said the arrest provided a “wake-up call” that forced him into deep self-reflection. He described being alone in a cell and confronting long-standing depression and trauma, framing the time inside as a period when he “made… changes” he believes would not have happened otherwise.
