Pistons' Javonte Green: Stepping into starting five

Green is set for his second start of March while Duncan Robinson (hip) and Tobias Harris (hip) tend to their respective injuries. Green has struggled to produce off the bench, as he's averaging 5.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in his last eight outings, all as a reserve.

Javonte Green Injury: Iffy to face Atlanta

Green (ankle) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Hawks.

Green is in danger of missing his first game of the season due to a left ankle sprain. If the veteran forward is ruled out, there would be more minutes available for guys like Kevin Huerter, Caris LeVert and Ronald Holland, especially if Marcus Sasser (hip) is downgraded from doubtful to out.

Pistons' Javonte Green: Likely to play Thursday

The veteran guard is likely to be available for the second leg of this back-to-back set. Over his last six contests, Green has averaged 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 12.5 minutes per game but could see an uptick in playing time if Tobias Harris (hip) sits out Thursday.

Why Pistons will upset Lakers without Cade Cunningham: Game prediction

The Detroit Pistons host the Los Angeles Lakers in a highly anticipated NBA matchup Monday night in Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

The game between the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons and the West's 3-seed Lakers took a bit of a hit last week, when we learned Pistons All-Star and MVP candidate Cade Cunningham suffered a partially collapsed lung injury in a game Tuesday in Washington. He is out through the start of April at least. The Pistons also remain without defensive standout Isaiah Stewart (calf) off the bench.

The Lakers have surged to nine straight wins, led by Luka Dončić − the NBA's scoring leader at 33.4 points per game − Austin Reaves (23.5 ppg) and 41-year-old superhuman LeBron James (21.1 ppg). The Lakers injury report has ruled out starting guard Marcus Smart and key bench contributor Rui Hachimura tonight against the Pistons.

Rui Hachimura Injury: Ruled out Monday

Hachimura is out is out for Monday's game against Detroit with right calf soreness.

Monday is Hachimura's first absence since the Feb. 28 win over the Warriors. His absence frees up some more playing time for Luke Kennard and Jake LaRavia on the wing versus the Pistons.

EARLY Game 70: GSW at DET, 4:30pm PT

Long time readers know that APRIBOT is my projection system. It runs on my humble computer and does not run on LLM AIs. Any mistakes it makes are my fault, so could it please stop messing with my retirement fund.

She thinks GSW have a 32% chance of winning! Which seems high since GSW has been bad and DET has been good, and she doesn’t even know DET just lost Cade.

However, the reason it’s even remotely close is: Yes, this is a bad schedule game for GSW (3rd game of a road trip, long flight), but this is even worse for DET, who are flying back from WAS last night for their 3rd game in 4 nights. This is a net 8% win probability loss for DET from the schedule.

Pistons vs. Heat preview: Detroit looks to stop the bleeding vs. surging Miami

Unclear if Cade Cunningham will suit up for the Pistons against the Heat

The Detroit Pistons enter tonight’s early evening tipoff against the Miami Heat at the lowest point of its season. Perhaps it is great that a low point can consist of uneven play, a winning record in the past 10 games, and the year’s longest losing streak consisting of a paltry three games. But serious Pistons watchers understand that the team is facing several serious issues right now. Things they need to figure out, and fast. Unfortunately, after Saturday’s embarrassing loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit now faces a comfortable and surging Heat team. Miami has won seven of nine and is in the middle of a comfy eight-game stretch that features just one road game — a quick jaunt to Charlotte, where they beat the Hornets.

Detroit vs Miami Picks: Side and Total Betting Predictions

RBD analyzes Detroit in a Game two B2B spot and uncovers betting value on both the side and total in the Pistons vs Heat matchup.

Unfortunately I have no T1 Overs (37-21, 63%) to play today, but I have some interesting numbers on the Pistons/Heat game.
Detroit heads to Miami to play in the Game two of B2B’s spot.
And I’m putting my money down on a side and total in this one.

Detroit is 8-1 SU in Game two’s so they’ve obviously got a good bench that can help spread the minutes around so the starters don’t get tired from being overplayed.

Pistons vs Spurs Discussion: Game Time, TV, Odds, and More

It’s been a minute since I could definitively say I’ve seen the Detroit Pistons play a great basketball game on both ends of the floor. That is partly due to the incredibly high standard the team has set for itself this year. But you can also mix in some wins against marginal competition, some wins against better competition with a heavy dose of luck, and some straight up losses. They aren’t playing their best as they face the San Antonio Spurs once again. It was the previous game against the Spurs where you can say this mini-swoon began (as much as you can ever call winning three of five, including wins against the Thunder and Cavs a swoon). The Pistons were outplayed easily on both ends of the floor in that game, and Detroit’s lack of shooting stood in stark contrast to a Spurs team firing on all cylinders. Following a loss to the aforementioned Cavs, the Pistons are looking to avoid what would be just their third two-game losing streak of the season. Note: They have yet to have a three-game losing streak. To beat the Spurs, Detroit needs to shoot the ball better and force the Spurs, also a bad shooting team, to shoot much worse than their previous matchup. In that game, the Spurs made 18 threes and 45% of their attempts. Mind you, on the season, the Spurs are shooting 35% from deep compared to Detroit’s 34%.

SAN ANTONIO — Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson left Thursday's 121-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the first quarter because of a sprained right ankle and didn't return.

"Ausar obviously means a lot to us," Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. "What we were able to do defensively, what he does defensively, the impact he has, obviously, you miss. We just had to figure out a way collectively to pick it up."

Thompson suffered the injury on a drive to the basket with 9:54 remaining in the opening quarter. With Victor Wembanyama trailing and Stephon Castle defending at the basket, Thompson planted hard off his right foot before immediately limping off the court.

Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland injuries hamper Detroit Pistons vs Spurs

SAN ANTONIO — In their second and final game of the regular season against one of the Western Conference's top contenders, the Detroit Pistons fell short.

They lost to the San Antonio Spurs on the road, 121-106, on Thursday, March 6, to fall to 45-16. Former No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama (38 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks) and De'Aaron Fox (29 points) lifted San Antonio offensively and they held the Pistons to 40.2% shooting.

Cade Cunningham, a former No. 1 overall pick himself, led the Pistons with 26 points and eight rebounds, but was held to 38.5% shooting. The Pistons trailed by as many as 22 points early in the third quarter before getting within eight points with a 25-11 run. But the Spurs pulled away with a 12-7 run to open the fourth, and outscored the Pistons 28-21 in the final period.

Ausar Thompson Injury Update: Pistons Defender Leaves Game vs Spurs with Right Ankle Issue

The Detroit Pistons suffered a worrying moment early in their matchup against the San Antonio Spurs when one of their key defensive players, Ausar Thompson, was forced to leave the game after appearing to suffer a right ankle injury. The incident occurred only a few minutes into the first quarter, immediately raising concern among teammates, coaches, and fans.

Thompson has become an important part of Detroit’s lineup this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. His energy, ability to guard multiple positions, and overall hustle have played a big role in the Pistons’ success this year. Seeing him leave the court so early in the game created uncertainty for the team, particularly in such a competitive matchup.

The Pistons take on the Lakers in LA on National TV. Better get your coffee out for a late night.

However, if you live on the East Coast, this is one of the NBA’s new late night games with a 10:30 start time. JJ Redick Provides Update On Rui Hachimura’s Return Timeline

The Los Angeles Lakers may finally be getting closer to some relief as they navigate one of the more frustrating injury stretches of their season. With rotation continuity hard to come by, any positive update has taken on added importance for a team trying to stay afloat in a crowded Western Conference race.

According to Dave McMenamin, head coach JJ Redick said the target is to have Rui Hachimura back early next week as he works his way back from right calf soreness. He will miss tonight’s game, with Jake LaRavia starting in his place.

Redick also confirmed that Hachimura will miss Friday and Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies, but the organization remains encouraged by how his recovery has progressed and does not believe the issue to be serious.

As the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers battled it out on Tuesday night, the veteran forward Tobias Harris left the game early with an injury concern.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, Harris was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Harris is dealing with a left hip sprain.

Harris appeared in just six minutes on the court on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. He went 2-2 from the field and knocked down both of his free throws to produce seven points for the Pistons before leaving the game.

Pistons' Tobias Harris: Won't return Tuesday

Harris has been ruled out for the rest of Tuesday's game against the Lakers due to a left hip sprain.

Harris limped to the locker room during the first quarter of Tuesday's game, and after being evaluated by medical staff, it was determined that his injury was severe enough for him to be held out for the rest of the contest. Ronald Holland, Javonte Green and Isaiah Stewart are in line for more minutes for the rest of Tuesday's game in Harris' absence.

Pistons vs Clippers Discussion: Game Time, TV, Odds, and More

Clippers are riding a three-game win streak into a matchup against the Pistons

The Los Angeles Clippers were supposed to be a bit of an underrated darling this season. With fewer expectations but a level of star talent, NBA nerds argued they could surprise. Well, their season got off to that kind of promise, anyway. The Clippers won three of their first five games. Then they said, “Hello darkness, my old friend.” Over their next 22 games, they managed to win just three. With no control over their own picks and a roster looking like one of the worst in the league, it got really dark in Clipperland. They have righted the ship a bit, winning three in a row. That means, just like with the Utah Jazz, the Detroit Pistons can’t afford to take this team lightly. Of course, the Pistons took the Jazz lightly and lost. They also seemed relatively disgusted with their level of effort. We will see if that self-recrimination and an off day for practice have helped them lock back in. Otherwise, this will be turning into a pretty sad end-of-the-year road trip.
