SAN ANTONIO — Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson left Thursday's 121-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the first quarter because of a sprained right ankle and didn't return.

"Ausar obviously means a lot to us," Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. "What we were able to do defensively, what he does defensively, the impact he has, obviously, you miss. We just had to figure out a way collectively to pick it up."

Thompson suffered the injury on a drive to the basket with 9:54 remaining in the opening quarter. With Victor Wembanyama trailing and Stephon Castle defending at the basket, Thompson planted hard off his right foot before immediately limping off the court.

Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland injuries hamper Detroit Pistons vs Spurs

SAN ANTONIO — In their second and final game of the regular season against one of the Western Conference's top contenders, the Detroit Pistons fell short.

They lost to the San Antonio Spurs on the road, 121-106, on Thursday, March 6, to fall to 45-16. Former No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama (38 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks) and De'Aaron Fox (29 points) lifted San Antonio offensively and they held the Pistons to 40.2% shooting.

Cade Cunningham, a former No. 1 overall pick himself, led the Pistons with 26 points and eight rebounds, but was held to 38.5% shooting. The Pistons trailed by as many as 22 points early in the third quarter before getting within eight points with a 25-11 run. But the Spurs pulled away with a 12-7 run to open the fourth, and outscored the Pistons 28-21 in the final period.

Ausar Thompson Injury Update: Pistons Defender Leaves Game vs Spurs with Right Ankle Issue

The Detroit Pistons suffered a worrying moment early in their matchup against the San Antonio Spurs when one of their key defensive players, Ausar Thompson, was forced to leave the game after appearing to suffer a right ankle injury. The incident occurred only a few minutes into the first quarter, immediately raising concern among teammates, coaches, and fans.

Thompson has become an important part of Detroit’s lineup this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. His energy, ability to guard multiple positions, and overall hustle have played a big role in the Pistons’ success this year. Seeing him leave the court so early in the game created uncertainty for the team, particularly in such a competitive matchup.

JJ Redick Provides Update On Rui Hachimura’s Return Timeline

The Los Angeles Lakers may finally be getting closer to some relief as they navigate one of the more frustrating injury stretches of their season. With rotation continuity hard to come by, any positive update has taken on added importance for a team trying to stay afloat in a crowded Western Conference race.

According to Dave McMenamin, head coach JJ Redick said the target is to have Rui Hachimura back early next week as he works his way back from right calf soreness. He will miss tonight’s game, with Jake LaRavia starting in his place.

Redick also confirmed that Hachimura will miss Friday and Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies, but the organization remains encouraged by how his recovery has progressed and does not believe the issue to be serious.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Harris is dealing with a left hip sprain.

Harris has been ruled out for the rest of Tuesday's game against the Lakers due to a left hip sprain.

Harris limped to the locker room during the first quarter of Tuesday's game, and after being evaluated by medical staff, it was determined that his injury was severe enough for him to be held out for the rest of the contest. Ronald Holland, Javonte Green and Isaiah Stewart are in line for more minutes for the rest of Tuesday's game in Harris' absence.

Pistons vs Clippers Discussion: Game Time, TV, Odds, and More

Clippers are riding a three-game win streak into a matchup against the Pistons

The Los Angeles Clippers were supposed to be a bit of an underrated darling this season. With fewer expectations but a level of star talent, NBA nerds argued they could surprise. Well, their season got off to that kind of promise, anyway. The Clippers won three of their first five games. Then they said, “Hello darkness, my old friend.” Over their next 22 games, they managed to win just three. With no control over their own picks and a roster looking like one of the worst in the league, it got really dark in Clipperland. They have righted the ship a bit, winning three in a row. That means, just like with the Utah Jazz, the Detroit Pistons can’t afford to take this team lightly. Of course, the Pistons took the Jazz lightly and lost. They also seemed relatively disgusted with their level of effort. We will see if that self-recrimination and an off day for practice have helped them lock back in. Otherwise, this will be turning into a pretty sad end-of-the-year road trip.

Pistons at Clippers: Full injury report, streaming, odds for Dec. 28

On Sunday, the LA Clippers (9-21) host the Detroit Pistons (24-7) at the Intuit Dome, and if you’re wondering how to catch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Clippers posted their season-high third-straight victory on Friday, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 119-103 on the road. They took control of the contest in the second half, holding a 63-41 advantage after limiting the Trail Blazers to 31% shooting from the field.

James Harden produced 34 points and six assists to lead the way, Brook Lopez scored 31 points and five rebounds and Kawhi Leonard added 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Lopez connected on a career-high nine 3-pointers in the contest.

Detroit Pistons score: Cade Cunningham had 29 points and 17 assists, but the Pistons couldn’t cap…

Explore the latest developments concerning Detroit Pistons score:.

Cade Cunningham posts double-double in Friday's loss to Jazz

Cade Cunningham posted a double-double for the Pistons Friday night, dishing out 17 assists and scoring 29 points (10-19 FG, 3-6 3PT, 6-9 FT) while also blocking two shots, grabbing five rebounds, and recording two steals in a 131-129 loss to the Jazz.

Cunningham continues a dynamic stretch on both ends of the floor, grabbing five or more rebounds, dishing out nine or more assists, and scoring 14 or more points in each of his last five games. The superstar guard remains an elite option in all formats while leading an explosive Detroit starting five on a nightly basis, averaging 26.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 9.6 assists per game while carrying a usage rate of 29.7% so far this season.

Cade Cunningham flashes potential to eventually beat unbreakable record

The Pistons had a disappointing loss in Utah on Friday night behind defensive struggles, but their offense was humming with Cade Cunningham at the helm. He finished the game with 17 assists but was on track for even more earlier in the game. His brilliant display of playmaking has fans wondering if he break Scott Skiles' 35-year-old record of 30 assists in a game.

Early in the game, Cade was completely dominant with his playmaking. He had 8 assists at the end of the first quarter and 13 at halftime. It looked like he might easily surpass his career-high of 18 (from earlier this season in Mexico City) and even 20 assists. But he got more involved scoring the ball in the second half and ended up with "only" 17.

Pistons 136-127 Kings (Dec 23, 2025) Game Recap

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — — Cade Cunningham had 23 points and 14 assists, Jalen Duren had 23 points and 12 rebounds, and the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons beat the Sacramento Kings 136-127 on Tuesday night.

Tobias Harris scored 24 points for the Pistons, who have won nine of 11.

Duren's double-double was his fourth straight and 17th of the season. Ausar Thompson had 19 points for Detroit, and Isaiah Stewart added 16 points off the bench.

DeMar DeRozan scored 37 points and Russell Westbrook had 27 for the Kings, who have lost 10 of 12.

Westbrook had four assists to reach 10,140 for his career, one short of Magic Johnson for seventh in NBA history.

Pistons fire on all cylinders with second straight road win

On Dec. 26, 2024, Jaden Ivey's 4-point play with just three seconds left was the difference for the Detroit Pistons in a thrilling 114-113 victory against the Sacramento Kings, pushing their record to 14-17.

Now almost a year after that game, the Pistons again visited the Golden 1 Center, and defeated the Kings 136-127 on Tuesday night to improve to 24-6 and stay at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The Pistons are now 2-0 during this five-game West Coast road trip, and in many ways, Tuesday's game could be considered one of their best offensive performances in the early part of this season.

Pistons have best 30-game start in 20 years after 136-127 win at Kings

SACRAMENTO — A late Sacramento Kings run made the Detroit Pistons sweat, but they pulled off a road victory on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The Pistons beat the Kings, 136-127, to improve to 24-6 this season. The Pistons led 121-100 after a Duncan Robinson 3-pointer with 11:08 remaining in the game. But a late 10-2 Kings run reduced their lead to 129-120, with 3:10 on the clock.

DeMar DeRozan (37 points, eight assists) cut it to nine again with a layup at the 1:37 mark, and Russell Westbrook (27 points) slashed it to eight with a split trip at the foul line with just under a minute left. But Ausar Thompson made a pair of free throws on the other end to push it back to double digits and give the Pistons enough cushion.

Pistons vs. Kings preview: Detroit looks to avoid disappointment on back-to-back

It’s pretty simple, really. The Sacramento Kings are at the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference, and the Detroit Pistons are at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Pistons field the second-best defense in the NBA, and the Kings have the second-worst defense. Detroit is in the top five in net rating, while Sacramento is second from last. The Pistons are better than the Kings and should win the game. Of course, so were the Houston Rockets, and they just fell to the Kings in overtime on Sunday night.

Cade Cunningham is undoubtedly the cheese that tops the Detroit Pistons' pizza, but have you seen what Jalen Duren has done this season? The 22-year-old specimen has had a breakout season, averaging a career-high in scoring (18.8 points per game) while emerging as a potential NBA All-Star. He's a large (6-foot-10, 250 pounds to be exact) reason why the Pistons (19-5) own the best record in the Eastern Conference and second-best record in the entire league.

If you haven't seen Duren yet this season, you'll get a chance on Friday when he and Detroit take on the Atlanta Hawks at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
