Key forward rejects rival interest to pen long-term deal at Hawks

Mitch Lewis has signed a new four year-extension to remain in brown and gold

HAWTHORN has received a huge boost with key forward Mitch Lewis signing a new deal at the Hawks.

The free agent had received plenty of interest from rival clubs, but has signed a new four-year deal, tying him to the Hawks until the end of 2030.

The new deal for Lewis comes after veteran Jack Gunston signed a one-year extension to play on for an 18th season.

The focus will now turn to another free agent, Gold Coast spearhead Ben King, who has had interest from the Hawks and is yet to decide on his playing future.

Ben King set to leave the Suns for Hawks in a stunning about-face

Mitch Lewis is set to line up alongside Ben King in brown and gold next year, knocking back interest from other clubs to recommit to Hawthorn despite the recruitment of another key forward.

Clubs such as Collingwood had hoped that Hawthorn’s pursuit of King could’ve persuaded Lewis to have his head turned by rival offers. But two competition sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking anonymously, have confirmed the 27-year-old has told the club he will stay with the two parties putting the final touches on a long-term deal.

Hawthorn’s list management believes Lewis – an athletic marking forward – can play further up the ground, which would allow King to lead out of the goal square. The Hawks’ forward line will also include Jack Gunston for at least another season after the evergreen 34-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year deal. He has kicked 40 goals in 12 games so far this season, off the back of a career-high 73 last year.

Ferrari discovers FIA verdict for bizarre practice tyre infringement at F1 Belgian GP

Ferrari faced an investigation into a tyre infringement during Belgian Grand Prix practice on Friday.

Ferrari has been fined for a tyre infringement following the opening Formula 1 practice session at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Shortly after the conclusion of second practice at Spa-Francorchamps, an FIA document confirmed that Ferrari had been reported to the stewards by F1 technical delegate Jo Bauer for failing to return the correct sets of tyres for both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after FP1.

Beuer noted: "Following FP1, the Scuderia Ferrari HP team electronically returned two sets of dry-weather tyres (sets 16-301 & 16-401) for Car 16 (LEC) in accordance with Articles B6.4.1 and B6.3.8 a) iii). However, the corresponding tyres were not physically returned to the Appointed Tyre Supplier before the start of the FP2.

Coles unveils major Flybuys change as loyalty battle against Woolworths heats up

Coles is overhauling the way shoppers can redeem Flybuys points at the checkout as it ups the ante on rival Woolworths. Shoppers will now be able to slash up to $100 off their grocery bill in one visit.

The supermarket giant has launched pay with points today, allowing members to redeem points for between $10 and $100 off instantly based on their points balance. Previously, Flybuys members were limited to $10 off per shop once they had racked up 2,000 points.

This is the same as Woolworth's $10 redemption model, with the supermarket also offering a Bank for Christmas option where customers can save their points until the redemption period at the end of the year.

Zak Butters trade update: Victorian club’s frank response to chances

Melbourne coach Steven King said he'd love to welcome Port Adelaide free agent Zak Butters to the club, but has indicated that his decision may already been determined.

Butters is being sought after by the Western Bulldogs, while Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood have interest in securing his services.

It is largely believed that if the Power can't get the star on-baller to sign on the dotted line, the Bulldogs are set to bolster their midfield stocks.

"We'd be like every club that would love him, but from what you hear, it's down to a couple and we might not be part of that discussion," King said on SEN.

Melbourne effectively out of Zak Butters race as Steven King says decision was ‘played out a year in advance’

Melbourne coach Steven King has effectively ruled the Demons out of the race for Zak Butters, saying the Port Adelaide free agent’s decision has “played out a year or so in advance already”.

Victorian-born Power superstar Butters is the hottest property in the AFL ahead of October’s trade and free agency period, with a growing expectation that he will seek a move home.

The 25-year-old grew up a die-hard Western Bulldogs supporter and many around the industry expect him to head to the Kennel, but Geelong, Hawthorn and Melbourne have all shown interest.

Butters has said repeatedly that he won’t make a decision until later in the year, but as that time edges closer, the picture appears to be getting clearer.
