22-0! Brewers tie franchise record run tally in rout of Mariners

MILWAUKEE – Jake Bauers scratched, clawed and crawled for the Brewers’ first run on Tuesday night. He smashed his shoulder in the process and dirtied his uniform. It was quintessential Brewers baseball.

And it was absolutely nothing like the rest of the night.

The Brewers matched their franchise record for runs scored in a 22-0 rout of the Mariners at American Family Field, scoring 21 of those runs over their final four, wild innings at-bat for a victory that pushed Milwaukee 30 games over .500 overall and 20 games over .500 at home.

It tied for the most lopsided shutout win in Major League Baseball since 1888, when the Philadelphia Quakers won a 24-0 game on the road. Two teams had won 22-0 games in the years since – Pittsburgh in 1975 and Cleveland in 2004.

July was the hottest month in the US since records began in 1895

July was the hottest month ever recorded in the United States, according to data released Monday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The month featured long, intense heat domes that led to record hot temperatures from the East Coast to the Plains and Southwestern states. NOAA’s temperature records date back to 1895.

By the end of the month, large wildfires were burning in the Pacific Northwest and Canada, mirroring what has been taking place in Europe, which is having its hottest summer on record.

July’s average temperature in the Lower 48 states was 3.3 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th-century average, NOAA reported. This was about 0.1 to 0.2 degrees warmer than July 1936 and July 2012 — the previous record holders — NOAA stated.

Contiguous US breaks its record for hottest month ever, NOAA says

The contiguous United States sizzled to its hottest month ever last month, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. July averaged 76.89 degrees Fahrenheit (24.94 degrees Celsius) across the Lower 48 states, eclipsing the Dust Bowl’s July 1936 by an eighth of a degree.

KENSINGTON, Maryland (AP) — The contiguous United States sizzled to its hottest month ever last month, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

July averaged 76.89 degrees Fahrenheit (24.94 degrees Celsius) across the Lower 48 states, eclipsing the Dust Bowl’s July 1936 by an eighth of a degree. Records go back to 1895.

“It’s not good when you’re breaking records from the Dust Bowl, which we are in this case,” said meteorologist Jeff Masters of Yale Climate Connections. “And that was a crazy sort of situation where you put tens of millions of people in motion. You had this great migration because of the drought and the heat that hit the center of the U.S. — just a cataclysmic event in U. S. history. If we’re exceeding records from The Dust Bowl, that says that we’re in deep trouble.”

July was hottest month ever recorded in US as heatwaves scorched country

Scientists have made clear that the elevated heat in the US was being amplified by the human-caused climate crisis

July was the hottest month ever recorded in the US, with repeated, scorching heatwaves across much of the country helping shatter all previous monthly temperature records stretching back over the full 132 years of reliable measurements.

Last month’s average temperature was 3.3F (1.8C) higher than the 20th century average for the contiguous United States, which excludes Alaska and Hawaii, according to new data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa).

This means the month was the hottest July, and hottest of all months, in records that go back to 1895. It surpasses previous high marks set in July 1936, in the teeth of Dust Bowl conditions, and July 2012.

Worst since the 1990s recession: Alarm grows over sluggish economy

Australia faces its longest stretch of sub-par economic growth since the early 1990s recession, one of the nation’s chief forecasters has predicted, warning that long-run vulnerabilities are finally catching up with the country.

Deloitte Access Economics this morning said it expects the economy to slow sharply through coming months, with GDP growth this financial year and next to slip below 2 per cent. It would be the first back-to-back years of sub-2 per cent growth since the end of the 1990-91 recession.

The slower growth will be accompanied by ongoing inflation, which Deloitte believes will hang around 4 per cent through 2026-27 before falling to 2.6 per cent in 2027-28.

England enters their FIFA World Cup round-of-16 clash with host nation Mexico as the favourites. They have an incredibly talented side led by Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, and look to be one of the tournament favourites.

But Mexico has a trump card up their sleeve that will be keeping manager Thomas Tuchel up at night; The Azteca.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup looked like a breakout party for the African football nations.

Nine teams advanced through to the round-of-32 from the continent, showing just how far many countries have come in recent years.

However, of those nine teams, only one has managed to advance beyond that point thus far. Algeria’s elimination at the hands of Switzerland has them as the latest team to fall.

It's been 20 years since the wrong Guy was interviewed by the BBC

The moment Guy Goma is introduced as Guy Kewney on live TV.  (Supplied: BBC News)

It's 2006 and Guy Goma has a job interview with the BBC.

The data support cleanser waits patiently in the reception area of the BBC Television Centre in London for his interview with the IT department.

He's approached by a BBC staff member who asks if he's "Guy".

What happens next has been immortalised as one of the greatest live TV blunders of all time because the staff member who approached Guy wasn't from IT, he was a producer for News 24.

And the Guy the producer collected wasn't Guy Kewney, who had been booked to be interviewed on the program, but Guy Goma, who inadvertently went along for the ride.

20 years ago his BBC interview became a viral comedy hit. Now, he's sharing his secret to staying calm.

GOOD continues our mission to uplift humanity, build bridges across communities, and feature innovative solutions to critical challenges.

Since his accidental 15 minutes of fame in 2006, Guy Goma has been the epitome of keeping calm under pressure.

The video—in which Goma showed up for a job interview at the BBC and was mistaken for, quite literally, another Guy (technology journalist Guy Kewney)—has gone viral time and time again, thanks in no small part to how well Goma handled the situation after being thrust into a live on-air interview.

Now, two decades after the wholesome snafu, Goma has decided to impart some wisdom about turning a potentially catastrophic moment into one of pure grace.

20 years after his accidental BBC interview went viral, Guy Goma opens up about staying calm under pressure

In May 2006, a scene unfolded in the BBC News studio that many people still share on social media today. A man named Guy Goma was sitting on a stool, looking very nervous during his famous accidental appearance. Despite the misunderstanding, he handled the interview quite well. Now, two decades later, Guy Goma has opened up about the experience, sharing how he managed to stay calm while the cameras were on him.

The confusion started at the BBC’s reception desk. Guy Goma, a computer technician, was at the studio for a standard job interview. At the same time, the producers were frantically looking for Guy Kewney, a technology expert scheduled to talk about a legal battle between Apple Corps and Apple Computer. Before anyone realized what was happening, Goma found himself sitting on set, wearing a microphone, and ready to go live.

Since 2000, only 3 tornado warnings have been issued in Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – It was a wet start to the Aloha Friday with severe weather for parts of Kauai and Oahu.

There was even a rare tornado warning issued for Ni’ihau around 6:40 a.m.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Honolulu noticed alarming activity on the radar, including intense circulation. They say the factors were all there for a tornado to spawn.

“Several of us here on the floor just got together and decided that this warranted a tornado warning and we’ll never know what happened. It came across a part of the island that’s very low habitation, but we’re pretty confident it probably had a tornado, especially right when it came on shore,” Meteorologist Stephen Parker said.

A rare tornado warning was issued early Friday morning for the island of Niʻihau as a strong storm system moved across the western end of the Hawaiian Islands, prompting officials to urge residents to seek shelter and remain alert.

The warning was precautionary. It ran through 7 a.m., and no reports came in of confirmed tornado damage on the sparsely populated island near Kauaʻi.
