South Korea fighter jets collided due to pilots snapping pictures, report finds

South Korean authorities have found that two fighter jets collided mid-air in 2021 because the pilots were taking pictures and videos.

The incident took place while the jets were on a flight mission in the central city of Daegu, according to Seoul's Board of Audit and Inspection.

The pilots survived with no injuries, but the collision damaged the planes, costing the military 880 million won ($596,000; £440,500) in repairs.

One of the pilots, who has since left the military, was made to pay a fine of 88 million won.

The incident took place because that pilot had wanted to take photos to commemorate his last flight with his military unit.

US ‘restricts intelligence sharing with South Korea’ after minister identified suspected nuclear site

Washington reportedly limits satellite data after minister spoke publicly about suspected facility in North Korea

The US has partly restricted intelligence sharing with South Korea after the country’s unification minister publicly identified a suspected North Korean nuclear site, according to reports in South Korean media.

Chung Dong-young told lawmakers in March that North Korea was operating uranium enrichment facilities in Kusong, a north-western area that had not previously been officially confirmed as a nuclear site alongside the known facilities at Yongbyon and Kangson.

A senior military official told the state-funded Yonhap news agency on Tuesday that Washington had imposed partial restrictions on sharing satellite-gathered intelligence about North Korean technology since early this month, though surveillance of missile activity continued normally and military readiness remained unaffected.

Julius Malema: South African opposition figure sentenced to five years

South African opposition politician Julius Malema, 45, has been sentenced to five years after being found guilty of the illegal possession of a gun and firing it in public.

Malema's lawyer immediately appealed against the decision to prevent the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters and member of parliament from being taken to prison.

Standing in the East London court in a dark suit and red tie, Malema showed little emotion as Magistrate Twanet Olivier read out the sentence.

Last year, he was convicted of five offences, including the unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging it in a public space and reckless endangerment.

Malema was convicted last year on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon in a public place, after an incident at the EFF’s fifth anniversary celebrations in KuGompo City, then known as East London.

South Carolina Gamecocks favored in college basketball title game against UCLA Bruins

SEC Network's Nell Fortner, Mike Neighbors and Alyssa Lang discuss what to watch for as the Gamecocks and Bruins are set to battle for a national title. (3:14)

In a battle between women's college basketball's modern dynasties, South Carolina pulled a minor shocker and defeated UConn — which had been favored for the national championship all season — to advance to the finals. That huge result has the Gamecocks now favored to win the program's fourth title.

South Carolina is a 3.5-point favorite over UCLA in the 2026 national championship game, with -185 odds to win the game straight up against the Bruins' +154. The total for the game sits at 131.5, even as both national semifinal contests failed to exceed 110 points. Early wagering at DraftKings has a majority of bets and handle backing the Gamecocks, both on the spread and the moneyline.

Cori Close did get the better of Dawn Staley the last time their teams faced off in Los Angeles last season. The then-No. 5 Bruins stunned the No. 1 Gamecocks in a dominant wire-to-wire 77-62 victory that snapped South Carolina’s 43-game win streak. The win marked UCLA’s first-ever victory over an AP No. 1 team and announced them square in the mix of the nation’s top programs.

The Bruins jumped out the gate with a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed, going up by 24 points at halftime thanks to a 17-5 run. The Gamecocks couldn't get anything going offensively, shooting a woeful 9 of 34 from the field in the opening half.

March Madness women's national championship game schedule, how to watch: Keep up with South Carolina vs. UCLA in Phoenix on Sunday

South Carolina and UCLA will square off in the title game to officially wrap up the women’s NCAA tournament. By Sunday afternoon, either the Gamecocks’ dominant run through the sport will have continued for another season or the Bruins will be headed home with the program’s first-ever tournament title.

South Carolina pulled away from UConn late in the first game on Friday night in Phoenix, though things got extremely contentious in that matchup. UConn head coach Geno Auriemma even had to be held back from Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley after a very heated interaction on the sidelines.

This was also the highest successful chase by any team on New Zealand soil, overtaking South Africa who had chased down 153 in Wellington in 2020.

4 of New Zealand's top five chases in women's T20Is have come against South Africa. And Sophie Devine scored a fifty in each of those games.

Giving to Gain : South Asian women in NFPs for IWD

This International Women’s Day, Sarita Chand, Yasmin Khan and Shantha Viswanathan share how they ‘give to gain’ as leaders of Not For Profits.

International Women’s Day invites us to reflect on the strength of women, the power of community, and the quiet ways women lift one another up. With this year’s theme, Give to Gain, we speak with trailblazing South Asian women in the not-for-profit sector about what it means to give – and how that giving returns in unexpected ways.

Yasmin Khan is founder and chair of the Bangle Foundation, a domestic abuse support service for South Asian women which has been running for over 10 years and helped thousands of women in our community escape family violence.

The Power to Give, the Strength to Gain! Mani Kohli: A symbol of excellence, perseverance & generosity

Erum MasoodOn March 8 each year, the world comes together to celebrate the incredible women who inspire, uplift and transform lives across communities and continents. International Women’s Day not only highlights women’s achievements but also acknowledges their struggles and the lasting impact of their resilience, leadership and compassion on future generations.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of supporting and working alongside women in Pakistan, Morocco and the United Kingdom—women who are celebrated not merely for their backgrounds, but for their strength, vision and determination. On this special day, I wish to pay tribute to a truly remarkable South Asian woman, Mani Kohli MBE, whose journey reflects excellence, perseverance and generosity of spirit.
With deep roots in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Mani Kohli’s story is a powerful reminder of our shared heritage and the importance of women uplifting one another, regardless of geography. As a respected figure in the fashion industry, she has styled prominent personalities across the UK, Asia and the United States. Yet beyond glamour and success, what truly defines her work is her belief that beauty begins within. She empowers women to embrace confidence, authenticity and self-worth—qualities that no fabric or trend alone can create.
Her contributions extend far beyond fashion. Passionate about philanthropy and community development, she actively raises funds for charitable causes and mentors aspiring women entrepreneurs and small business owners. Through her work, she encourages others to give with sincerity and enthusiasm, reinforcing the idea that true success is measured by the lives we uplift along the way.
Meeting her through the British Asian Fashion Network was a transformative moment in my own journey. She has since become not only a mentor in fashion but a role model in leadership and humility. I was honoured to celebrate her MBE recognition alongside her children and inspiring women from around the world—each representing strength, talent and compassion in their own unique ways.
The People’s Incubation New Enterprise (PINE) Global Community recognizes women such as Ghinaa Khan, Sana Kardar, Rabia Amir, Musarrat Jabeen, Misha Irshad, Maham Masood, Fakiha Fatima, Vinessa Phoebe and Ramsha Khokar, who consistently support and empower one another. Their collective spirit reflects the true essence of International Women’s Day—unity, encouragement and shared growth.
As we celebrate Mani Kohli MBE and countless other extraordinary women, let us honour them not only for their professional accomplishments but for the roles they cherish as mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. Their strength lies not only in what they achieve, but in how they nurture, inspire and give of themselves.
Women’s giving is not about gaining recognition; it is about sharing time, compassion and purpose to create a kinder and brighter world.
