How will Aryna Sabalenka fare in her 2026 clay-court debut? | Madrid Preview & Picks

While the world No. 1 begins her title defense Thursday, will either of Swiatek or Osaka's opponents spring an upset?

After nearly a month away, Sabalenka returns on a new continent and a new surface, but feeling like her old self again. When we last left her, in late March, she was on top of the tennis world. She had beaten No. 2 Elena Rybakina for the Indian Wells title, and No. 3 Coco Gauff for the Miami Open title. In the process, she had proven again that she could  keep herself in check in big-stage finals.

That leaves the 27-year-old in a familiar position: No. 1 in the world. But she’s also in an unfamiliar place. For the first time, she starts the clay season as the early favorite for the title at Roland Garros. How, if at all, that status affects her will be one of the story lines to follow over the next month. She’ll be going for her first title in Paris. This time, so far, Iga Swiatek isn’t standing in her way.

Arsenal face another title test and buildup to the Old Firm game – as it happened

Rangers and Celtic count down to a seismic Old Firm game, while Arsenal take on Chelsea and Manchester United face Crystal Palace

Righto, that’s us done here. Thanks for your company and comments – I’ll see you for Manchester United v Crystal Palace at 1pm for a 2pm kick-off. But between now and then, have a bit of this!

“Agree with you regarding GNev’s odd comments,” begins Dave Estherby. “A big tall striker who can hold the ball up, link play and score goals – all from the bench recently – is exactly what Man Utd need right now. Respectfully disagree about Amorim though; I think he had lost at least some of the players (both human and the plastic ones on that wonderful little board of his) and was getting the boot regardless. If only there were 10 million or so things that could soften the blow for him…”

Arsenal vs Chelsea LIVE: Latest updates as hosts look to extend Premier League advantage

Arsenal take on Chelsea in a huge game at the top of the Premier League, and you can follow it all here with ESPN.

After Manchester City saw off Leeds yesterday, just two points separate City from Mikel Arteta's men before this Sunday afternoon clash at the Emirates.

Liam Rosenior and Chelsea will remember the last time these two sides met — a second-leg defeat in the Carabao Cup in February, but victory here would see them leapfrog Liverpool into fifth.

Arsenal head into this clash buoyed after a 4-1 thrashing of their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, as Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres both scored a brace.

Prochazka-Ulberg title bout set for UFC 327; Pereira vacates belt

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The UFC's undisputed light heavyweight championship will be on the line in April, as Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg will meet for the vacant title at UFC 327.

UFC CEO Dana White announced the 205-pound title fight on Friday. The announcement means that former champion Alex Pereira, who has previously stated an interest in moving up to heavyweight, has vacated the belt.

White did not comment on Pereira's title reign coming to an end. Pereira's team did not immediately respond to ESPN's requests for comment.

The new light heavyweight title matchup will headline UFC 327 on April 11 inside Kaseya Center in Miami.

Breaking: Dana White Announces UFC 327 Headliners

On Friday, Dana White went live on his Instagram with major breaking news regarding UFC 327. The event takes place at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on Apr. 11. UFC 327 will be headlined by a vacant light heavyweight title clash between Carlos Ulberg and former champion Jiri Prochazka.

The decision to crown a new light heavyweight champion came after Alex Pereira chose to vacate the title. Pereira reclaimed the title last year with an impressive 1st round knockout of Magomed Ankalaev, avenging his loss earlier in that year.

Pereira’s decision to vacate comes as he aims to make history as the first ever three-division UFC champion. It seems that the promotion will give him the chance. As a result, Ulberg and Prochazcka will face off to crown a new champion and keep the division moving.

Jiri Prochazka vs. Carlos Ulberg title bout set for UFC 327 headliner

Alex Pereira is no longer the champion of the UFC light heavyweight division, and with that comes a title fight for the vacant belt.

Pereira, one of the UFC's biggest stars, has vacated his title, and now Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg will compete to see who's the new king of the division. The two top contenders are set to clash in the main event of UFC 327, which is scheduled to go down on April 11 at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

UFC CEO Dana White officially announced the matchup on Instagram Live Friday evening.

Prochazka (32-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) looks to reclaim his title, as he crowned himself champion in 2022. However, an injury forced him to vacate his belt, and he's been unable to reclaim it since, falling short on two different occasions against Pereira, who beat him both times by TKO. Prochazka had a fruitful 2025. He picked up TKO wins over former champion Jamahal Hill and former UFC title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. to put behind his second defeat against "Poatan."

How to watch Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Josh Kelly: Date, timings, fight card & streaming links

All the info you need to know ahead of a huge fight night in Newcastle

The roof will come off the Utilita Arena in Newcastle when local fighter, Josh Kelly, enters the ring for his top-of-the-bill clash against Bakhram Murtazaliev this Saturday (January 31). Kelly will need to draw on that fervent support as he attempts to dethrone the IBF world super welterweight king and, in doing so, become the first fighter to beat the Russian, who now hails from Newbury Park, California.

It's been 15 months since we last saw Murtazaliev in action. The fearsome puncher made a successful first defence of his IBF belt by stopping Tim Tszyu inside three rounds in Orlando, Florida (October 2024). He had captured the title six months earlier, when KO’ing Jack Culcay in Germany. Having been away from the ring for so long, Murtazaliev will be keen to get back in the groove and put on a good performance in front of a hostile crowd.

Hurricanes open title defence with tight win over Thunder

The Hobart Hurricanes have held their nerve to beat the Sydney Thunder with one ball remaining in a re-match of last season's Big Bash League decider.

Defending champions Hobart have opened their new Big Bash League campaign with a tense final-over four-wicket win against last season's runner-up Sydney.

Nikhil Chaudhary (41 from 31), Ben McDermott (38 from 24), Mitchell Owen (32 from 14) all struck lusty blows at the top for the Hurricanes at Ninja Stadium on Tuesday night.

But they lost a run of wickets before eventually getting past the Thunder's 6-180 with one ball to spare.

The experienced Matthew Wade (25 from 16) departed in the second-last over, leaving the Hurricanes needing four runs off the final six balls.

Lando Norris has match point heading into the penultimate weekend of the Formula 1 season, with the British driver having one hand on a maiden drivers' championship.

Norris enters this weekend's racing in Qatar with a 24-point advantage over his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, and reigning world champion Max Verstappen.

Despite being in pole position to win the title, Norris is not guaranteed the title and will still need to produce a solid drive to make his championship dream a reality.

Norris on the brink of F1 history; rules twist that could change the championship: Burning Qs

One McLaren driver can win the championship this weekend, but it isn’t Oscar Piastri.

Lando Norris stands on the brink of history. On Sunday he has the chance to become the 35th driver to win a Formula 1 world title.

It’s a remarkable turn of events for the Englishman, who looked down and out of the hunt just eight races ago, when a power unit problem put him 34 points behind his title-leading teammate.

BETTING GUIDE: Who are the favourites for the Qatar Grand Prix?

Check out the odds for who might come out on top in Qatar, from pole position to race victory.

As Formula 1 prepares to race under the lights for the penultimate round of the 2025 season, what do the odds say about who will prevail in Qatar? Read on to find out…

Odds are provided by F1’s Official Betting Data Supplier ALT Sports Data, are subject to change and are presented in decimal form: for every $1 wagered you would win the figure represented by the odds; so, if Verstappen is favourite at 1.50, you would win $1.50 for every dollar bet.

Max Verstappen has endured his toughest campaign since he won his maiden Drivers' Championship back in 2021. However, for a challenging year, his record looks alright. The Dutchman is fresh off his sixth triumph and has put himself very much into the title hunt with two weekends to go. He enters Qatar as the most in-form driver on the grid across the last 10 races, with an average of 2.70 and an 80% top-three return in that period. Adding to his prestige are four wins in his last seven outings.
