Tim Davies announces he’s leaving Today after seven years

Today weather presenter Tim Davies has announced he’s leaving the show after seven years.

The beloved TV personality confirmed the news live on air, a moment which left his co-stars visibly emotional.

“After all of these years, I have made the really hard decision to finish on a high and step back from this role and in turn, this program,” Davies said while reporting live from the Gold Coast.

“I have been at this network for 12 years, and when I was asked to come across to Today from Nine’s Sydney newsroom, I was a journalist covering the likes of courts and crime and reporting on some of the worst parts of our society.

Markets today: Banks weigh down ASX, Sunrise Energy jumps after Pentagon deal

Australia’s sharemarket has started the week on the back foot after a dip in mortgage applications raised questions about coming bank earnings.

The S&P/ASX200 fell 31 points on Monday, down 0.3 per cent to 9232.6, as the broader All Ordinaries lost 21.1 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 9424.

Westpac tumbled more than 5 per cent after its third-quarter mortgage applications slumped by a fifth following May’s federal budget announcement, raising concerns about how banks would fare this earnings season.

Traders had been bracing for budget-related volatility to hit the market, likely starting with the banks, IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said.

“Impacts on property prices, credit growth and removing investors from the market, that’s going to flow through to the banks,” Sycamore said.

Westpac mortgage applications plunge 20pc after budget, rate hikes

Westpac is forecasting a sharp slowdown in demand from property investors, telling shareholders that total mortgage applications had slumped by a fifth since Labor made sweeping changes to tax concessions in May.

Assam Issues Alert Over Heavy Rainfall Forecast

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert in view of the possibility of heavy rainfall across several districts until 5 August.

According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rain is likely to affect Assam State, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with emergency response teams kept on standby. Residents, particularly those living near rivers and in hilly areas, have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in view of the forecast.

Ted Lasso goes beyond extra time with its fourth season, and we pay the penalty

Like football, a Ted Lasso season is a game of two halves. And as such, reviewing it at half-time is a perilous exercise. But having seen the first five episodes of season four – ostensibly the final season – that is precisely what I am going to do.

So, here’s the caveat: struggling teams can sometimes stage remarkable comebacks after the break. And for the sake of this once-beloved show, I hope that’s what happens here.

To milk this metaphor just a little longer, this season feels like a game stretched into extra time and inevitably on the way to the dreaded penalty shootout. It’s a long way from the beautiful game at its finest, and it’s absolutely not the way anyone wants it to end.
