Typhoon Noul: 150 flights cancelled in Hong Kong as T3 remains in effect

The Hong Kong Observatory will issue the No 8 typhoon signal at 10.10pm on Saturday as Typhoon Noul barrels towards the region, with more than 380 flights cancelled and winds associated with the storm causing a scaffolding collapse.
The forecaster said that Noul had intensified and was forecast to come within 100km (62 miles) of the city on Sunday morning, with rain and strong winds associated with the storm already affecting the city.
It said it would issue the No 8 signal at 10.10pm, while a “Pre-No 8 Special Announcement” would be sent out two hours beforehand.
China evacuates 20,000 people as Typhoon Noul nears
Authorities have evacuated more than 20,000 people and suspended rail services as Typhoon Noul approaches southern China, with flight cancellations announced in the financial hub of Hong Kong.
The typhoon is forecast to make landfall in the coastal area stretching from Hong Kong to Guangdong province between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, China's National Meteorological Center said.
The Chinese weather forecaster maintained an orange typhoon alert on Saturday, the second-highest level in its four-tier system.
Parts of Guangdong and neighbouring Hunan and Jiangxi provinces are set to receive heavy rainfall from Saturday to Monday, it said.
When the typhoon makes landfall, it is forecast to have maximum sustained winds of 126-151 kilometres per hour (78-94 miles per hour).
