Iâve been asked that sort of question regarding the criminal defense profession more than once after people learn that I am currently covering the ongoing case of Tyler Robinson, who is charged with the murder of Charlie Kirk. After hearing the rhetorical question â underlined with a negative tone â I decided to ask it. Why do people choose to go into criminal defense law?

âI came to criminal defense thinking that I was fighting the good fight, that I was standing up for the poor, the downtrodden, the oppressed against the power of the state,â criminal defense attorney Kathleen Heath said in a 2018 TED Talk. âBut what I quickly learned is that there is another view of a criminal defense lawyer. One that perhaps holds a greater deal of cultural currency. And thatâs the stereotype of the wily criminal defense lawyer â the one who would use verbal tricks, unscrupulous means, technical loopholes to make sure that undeserving, guilty criminals are let back out onto our streets.â

Robinson’s lawyers said courtroom livestreams and photography were leading to sensational and slanted media coverage that could bias potential jurors in the aggravated murder case.

Video: Psychologist testifies on how bias news commentary could taint Robinson’s right to a fair trial

During Friday’s Tyler Robinson court hearing, a psychologist testified on why cameras should not be allowed during Robinson’s pretrial hearings.

Dr. Bryan Edelman said that certain news media outlets and podcasters focused on creating “a performative experience” for viewers instead of being factual.

One clip played showed a commentator calling Robinson a “monster” on national TV, with Edelman calling the commentary “sensationalism.”

The highly regarded list, now celebrating its 37th year, spotlights the 350 wealthiest individuals across the United Kingdom.

Here's why Easter moves, as well as a full list of dates for the 2026 Easter season.

In 2026, Easter Sunday will be on Sunday, April 5. The holiday, which celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead after he was crucified, is regarded as the holiest day in Christianity.

When is Lent over? What to know ahead of Easter

Lent and the 2026 Easter season, which began with Ash Wednesday as part of a triple holiday overlap in mid-February, are nearing an end for Christians in the United States and around the world.

Here is what to know about when Lent ends and the obligatory fast for Catholics.

Lent will end on Holy Thursday, which will be on April 2, 2026 at sunset. Good Friday is the following day, April 3.

Sunset times vary by city. In Columbus, sunset will be at 7:57 pm, Cincinnati will be at 8:02 pm, and Akron will be at 7:52 pm on April 2, 2026, according to Time andDate.

Lent will end at sundown on Holy Thursday, according to United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Easter season will come to a close in a little over a week, on Easter Sunday. But the days leading up to Easter Sunday are equally important to many Christians and Catholics. Holy Week begins this Sunday, March 29, with Palm Sunday.

Each day of Holy Week commemorates different events in the week leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible.

Here's the calendar for Holy Week 2026, what Palm Sunday is and what to know about other Holy Week days.

Easter Sunday will fall on April 5 in 2026. In 2025, Easter fell much later in the month, on April 20. Eastern Orthodox Easter will fall on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Palm Sunday ushers us into Holy Week. It sets the tone for the Easter triduum later in the week. The liturgy opens with movement, a procession, outside the church, the waving of blessed palms or any other greenery, and the jubilant chanting of "Hosanna." It feels festive, almost triumphant. Yet our attention is quickly drawn to the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year we read from Matthew's version. On Good Friday, however, we read it again but from John, as done every year.

Paul McDermott doesn't remember a lot from the first Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) 40 years ago, where he performed as part of the now-legendary musical comedy group, the Doug Anthony All Stars.

He has only vague recollections of the troupe's early ad-lib-heavy shows, like "performing in the middle of Victoria Parade, where the trams go through".

But it'd be hard to forget falling backwards onto a beer bottle mid-gig.
