Basketball has always been in the blood of Crows recruit Finnbar Maley.
His father, Paul, enjoyed a 13-year professional career in Ireland, USA and Australia, and ended his career as part of the Adelaide 36ers.
While his sister, Anneli, is a WNBL MVP, the captain of the Perth Lynx and has represented Australia on multiple occasions.
As a junior, Finnbar wanted to follow in those same footsteps, climbing the ranks as a talented basketballer in Victoria.
But when he got to the age of 17, he came to the realisation that basketball wasn’t for him, and made the decision to pursue a career in Australian Rules.

BATTLING Carlton has made a selection statement by axing veteran midfielder George Hewett amongst three changes for its Gather Round clash against Adelaide, which has again left out ruck Reilly O'Brien for the game at Adelaide Oval.
Hewett led the Blues for disposals (22) in the loss to North Melbourne on Good Friday, but he's been omitted as the Blues look to shake up their midfield after a 1-3 start to the season.
Hewett played every game last season and took home the John Nicholls Medal as Carlton's best-and-fairest. Four games later, he is out of the side for the first time since round 18, 2024.

AFL Team Selection: Gather Round v Carlton
Adelaide has made four changes for its clash against Carlton at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The Crows will open Gather Round for a fourth-straight season and backman Mitch Hinge headlines the inclusions.
Hinge will feature in his first AFL match of 2026 after successfully navigating his way back from a back injury in the Crows’ SANFL game against Woodville-West Torrens last week.
The defender finished the SANFL match with five rebound 50s, five marks and 15 disposals.
Crows Executive General Manager Football Adam Kelly said Hinge’s experience would be a welcomed addition.
“Mitch had an interrupted pre-season due to a lower back complaint and has done well through rehabilitation to return to play last week in the SANFL,” Kelly said.
