Wild Card Weekend Sunday inactives: Bills at Jaguars; 49ers at Eagles; Chargers at Patriots

Niners tight end George Kittle was carted off the field in the second quarter of Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles after suffering an apparent lower right leg injury.

The Buffalo Bills rallied to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-24, on Sunday to advance to the AFC Divisional Round once again under head coach Sean McDermott and quarterback Josh Allen.

Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman is out of the NFL mix this year after announcing on Dec. 29 that he planned to "run it back" with the Irish in 2026. But that statement hasn't stopped clubs from wish-casting him to the pros.

Browns in reset mode: Here's what we know after ouster of Kevin Stefanski

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The "Get Up" crew reacts to the Browns' decision to fire coach Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. (2:27)

Less than six months ago, coach Kevin Stefanski had a strong show of support from Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam despite the organization attempting to rebound from a 3-14 campaign during the 2024 season.

"We've got to do better. I think we'll know what better looks like," Haslam said.

Ultimately, a 5-12 record in 2025 wasn't better. The Browns on Monday announced the firing of Stefanski, who guided Cleveland the past six seasons and led the franchise to two playoff appearances while also winning two NFL Coach of the Year awards (2020 and 2023). Stefanski leaves Cleveland with a 45-56 regular-season record and a 1-2 record in the postseason.

Who’s to blame for Browns’ latest firestorm? Kevin Stefanski? Andrew Berry? Think bigger — Jimmy Watkins

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fire the coach. Fire the general manager. FIRE EVERYBODY, as fans like to say.

Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam has tried every pink slip combination. He’s axed every person within purview of a porous ownership tenure, except for the first person he blamed during his opening statement on Monday.

“… First of all, ownership takes full responsibility for where we are,” Haslam said after firing coach Kevin Stefanski. “To win eight games in two years is horrible – it’s totally unacceptable and it’s not going to continue.”

I’m not convinced, no matter who replaces Stefanski or how well general manager Andrew Berry rebounds from the Deshaun Watson trade. Haslam’s empty promises sound as familiar as Cleveland’s 5-12 record this season. And his latest rendition reminds us that you can pull, yank and rip at the Browns’ issues, but you cannot remove the root.

Police visit Tess Crosley's home amid Lachie Neale scandal

Tess Crosley has been pictured peering anxiously out the windows of her Brisbane home while her husband answered the door to police on New Year's Eve.

Crosley's partner Ben was shirtless as the two officers arrived at the house just before 1.30pm carrying an unidentified long, black piece of lockable luggage, and two other long black fabric bags, all of which were given to Mr Crosley.

Mr Crosley had his arms crossed as he spoke to the police while Tess pulled the curtains aside and watched on.

There is no suggestion that Tess or Ben Crosley engaged in any improper conduct in relation to the visit by police.

NHL On Tap: Wild host Avalanche, seek 8th straight win

Crosby gets another chance to pass Lemieux; McDavid can extend point streak for Oilers

There are nine games on the NHL schedule for Sunday, with two nationally televised in the United States. Here are five things to watch today, along with the complete game schedule.

The Minnesota Wild (22-9-5) will look to extend their winning streak to eight games when they host the Colorado Avalanche (25-2-7) at Grand Casino Arena (6 p.m. ET; FDSNWIX, FDSNNO, ALT) in a marquee Central Division matchup. Minnesota can close the gap on Colorado in the division; the Wild are third in the Central, eight points back of Avalanche and four behind the Dallas Stars. Minnesota won 5-2 against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday and is 4-0-0 since acquiring defenseman Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks for forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Hughes has three points (one goal, two assists) since the trade and 26 points (three goals, 23 assists) in 30 games this season. Colorado has won four straight and is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games.

Preview: A Quinn-tessential Matchup in Minnesota

The Colorado Avalanche face Quinn Hughes for the first time as a member of the Minnesota Wild.

Today, the Colorado Avalanche make their final road trip before the holiday break in a rematch against the Minnesota Wild at Grand Casino Arena in St Paul. While the Avalanche have had several noteworthy matchups against Minnesota in the past, this one will be the first meeting with defenseman Quinn Hughes as a member of the Wild.

Watch: ALT, ALT+ (Avalanche Broadcast Area), FDSNNO, FDSNWIX, ESPN+, NHL Center Ice (Outside Avalanche Broadcast Area – US), SN+, NHL Centre Ice (Canadian Broadcast Areas)

This game marks the second (and final) visit to the Twin Cities for the Avalanche this season. In the previous matchup on November 28, Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring early in the first period. Minnesota countered with two second period goals by Kirill Kaprizov until Gabe Landeskog tied the game nearly halfway through the third period. Neither team scored in the overtime session, but Minnesota ultimately came out on top courtesy of a shootout-deciding goal from Matt Boldy for the 3-2 victory. Both goalies were put to the test: Minnesota’s Jesper Wallstedt stopped 39 of 41 shots, while Scott Wedgewood turned aside 37 of 39 shots.

California officials warn foragers after person dies from poison mushroom

Several additional people, including children, have severe liver damage amid 21 cases of amatoxin poisoning

California officials are warning foragers after an outbreak of poisoning linked to wild mushrooms that has killed one adult and caused severe liver damage in several patients, including children.

The state poison control system has identified 21 cases of amatoxin poisoning, likely caused by death cap mushrooms, the health department said Friday. The toxic wild mushrooms are often mistaken for edible ones because of their appearance and taste.

“Death cap mushrooms contain potentially deadly toxins that can lead to liver failure,” Erica Pan, director of the California department of public health, said in a statement. “Because the death cap can easily be mistaken for edible safe mushrooms, we advise the public not to forage for wild mushrooms at all during this high-risk season.”

California warns against foraging mushrooms after cluster of poisonings, 1 death

An urgent advisory warning people against eating foraged mushrooms was issued by the California Department of Public Health on Friday due to recent amatoxin poisonings.

As of Friday, there were 21 poisonings confirmed by the California Poison Control System linked to eating wild, foraged mushrooms, such as death caps, the CDPH said.

One case resulted in death, and several other patients, including children and adults, have suffered severe liver damage, the CDPH said. A liver transplant may even be needed for at least one of the patients.

The CDPH said the poisonings were reported in clusters in the Monterey area and Bay Area. However, the risk of poisoning is statewide as rain during the fall and winter months creates beneficial growth conditions for death caps.
