Victoria Mboko’s Australian Open debut is proceeding exactly as planned.

The Canadian 17th seed accounted for American Caty McNally on Wednesday with a 6-4 6-3 win at 1573 Arena to earn a third-round berth at AO 2026.

“I really had to fight hard today,” said the 19-year-old after closing out the match by winning six straight games from a 0-3 second-set deficit.

▪ Longwood leads the all-time series with Charleston Southern, which dates to 2005-06, 17-13, and 7-5 in Charleston. The teams split last season's meetings, each winning on the road. Longwood has won nine of the previous 11 games against CSU overall.

▪ With Saturday's victory over Presbyterian to improve to 10-4, the Lancers reached double-digit wins in the fewest amount of games in their Division I history. In 2002-03, Division II Longwood accomplished the feat in 13 games, finishing the season 27-5 overall.

▪ Longwood is now one of just 11 teams in Division I women's basketball to use the same starting lineup in all of its games so far this season. Live: Evacuation warning issued for fire in Victoria's north as heatwave sweeps southern Australia

Southern Australia is enduring its most intense heatwave in years, with temperatures set to soar from today until the weekend.

There is an evacuation warning for a blaze in Victoria's north, and firefighters in South Australia are also bracing for challenging conditions.

Some areas are expecting consecutive days of temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

A spokesperson for the State Control Centre says flames at a fire in Tabilk in central Victoria are reaching approximately two metres high.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], December 29 (ANI): India Women opener Smriti Mandhana said that she felt happy to contribute with the bat for the team and also opened up about her 162-run opening partnership with Shafali Verma during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led India successfully defended a mammoth target of 222 to clinch a 30-run victory over Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I of the five-match series at Thiruvananthapuram, extending their unassailable lead to 4-0 with one game still to be played.

Mandhana scored 80 runs off 48 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes and was named Player of the Match. After winning the award, Mandhana said that her plan was similar and there were no significant changes.
