The depths of Australia's star power means the Kangaroos will always name squads oozing with class and Kevin Walters's combination for this year's World Cup is no exception.
It's a side with major success stories, young and old and in-between.
James Tedesco's return three years after his last Test caps the 33-year old's resurrection and after he ran the ball to hell and back in the grand final to win the Clive Churchill Medal, there can be no doubt that, at an age where many players best days are only just a memory, he is once again the best fullback in the world.
Kangaroos squad for 2026 Rugby League World Cup
The Australian Rugby League Commission has today confirmed the 23-player squad to represent the Kangaroos for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
Isaah Yeo has been named to captain a Kangaroos squad including six potential debutants (Bradman Best, Jack Bostock, Blayke Brailey, David Fifita, Sam Walker and Jacob Preston) for a home World Cup. The Kangaroos will play the Kiwis in Sydney, Fiji in Brisbane, and Cook Islands in Townsville.
“This will be the most open World Cup in some time,” ARLC Executive Chairman Mr Peter V’landys AM said. “This squad is full of exceptional players who are desperate to represent their country in a World Cup on home soil.

Analysis: The big question is going to be who lines up at fullback and halfback, with Kevin Walters giving himself plenty of options at both positions in the final squad he named on Monday. There are six fresh faces with Jack Bostock and Bradman Best likely to start in the backline. Latrell Mitchell and Tom Trbojevic are also healthy and in line to make their long-awaited return to the green and gold as genuine game-breakers in the back five. With that in mind it may make more sense to have a steadier option at fullback in James Tedesco, but Walters seemed to hint in his press conference that Walsh would have a prominent role. There is also a mystery over who will partner Cameron Munster, with Mitchell Moses and his long-range kicking game seeming the logical choice. But Sam Walker is firming after playing a key part in the Roosters’ premiership-winning campaign.
