Knights confirm future of Tyson Frizell
The Newcastle Knights have confirmed during their fan event at McDonald Jones Stadium on Monday that Tyson Frizell will depart the club ahead of 2027.
The forward's future has been up in the air in recent weeks, with the Knights wrestling with their roster and salary cap to find a spot for him.
As it stands, the Knights have just two spots left available for 2027, and were going to try and use one of them on Frizell, but the money available did not enable them to do so.
It had been reported earlier this year by The Newcastle Herald that the Knights were looking to potentially move a player on to retain Frizell, so important had the forward become to the club.

Today, the Newcastle Knights have confirmed forward Tyson Frizell played his 129th and final match for the club in last night's 19-18 NRL Grand Final loss to the Roosters.
Frizell has been a free agent since November 1 last year and despite playing a significant role in the club's 2026 resurrection from wooden spooners to grand finalists with 25 match appearances, his playing future in 2027 will be elsewhere.
With the rise of an exciting core of young forwards in Newcastle, together with the off-season arrival kiwi veteran Marata Niukore from the Warriors, it seems there simply weren't enough forward spots left on the Knights roster.

'Time's up soon': Frizell ready to grasp rare shot at GF glory
Newcastle veteran Tyson Frizell has opened up on the pain of watching rival clubs taste premiership success as he prepares to end a 16-year wait to play in a grand final.
The 34-year-old made his NRL debut with the Sharks back in 2011 and has featured in 305 NRL games but has never been this close to the Provan-Summons Trophy.
In fact, he'd never got past the second week of the finals until Newcastle's fairytale run to this year's grand final.
Frizell's fear he may never play in a decider grew with each passing year as he watched his NRL rivals play for glory on the first Sunday of October.
