Buckley on Brisbane's radar as Lions search for Fagan replacement

Nathan Buckley could be a contender to replace Chris Fagan at Brisbane

BRISBANE is considering approaching Nathan Buckley to be part of its process to find the club's next head coach.

Chris Fagan's departure last week with a year to run on his contract has left a vacancy at the three-time premiers heading into the 2027 season.

And 33 years after Buckley won the Rising Star Award as a player in his single season at the Brisbane Bears, the Lions are contemplating an approach about him returning to Queensland.

Lions head of football Danny Daly and assistant coach Cam Bruce are also expected to be considered to replace Fagan.

How Blues could shockingly land ‘biggest name of the trade period’

The biggest name to change clubs in this trade period might not be a player.

It might just be the team that successfully lures Chris Fagan through the door, following his decision to stand down as coach of Brisbane.

Fagan leaves the Lions with three straight premierships, and while he has spoken about his need to take a step back, he has also confirmed he wants to remain involved in footy.

On top of that, the 65-year-old has said for years that he would return to Victoria once his days with Brisbane were up.
