The Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon confirmed he had suffered a high-grade tear and his tournament was over.

Twist in Reece Walsh and James Tedesco battle after Kangaroos star ruled out of World Cup

James Tedesco's hopes of winning the starting Kangaroos fullback job have taken another hit after Mitch Moses was ruled out for the rest of the Rugby League World Cup. Moses suffered a calf injury in Australia's 24-22 win over New Zealand on Thursday night.

On Saturday it was announced that Moses won't play any further part in the World Cup. Despite calls for Panthers winger Tom Jenkins to be added to the squad, Kevin Walters has called in Canberra five-eighth Ethan Strange instead.

Under World Cup rules, a player ruled out for the rest of the tournament can only be replaced by a like-for-like player. As Jenkins is a winger and Strange is a half, it had to be Strange.
