Bulls Crash Course: 5 Burning Questions About the Raptors Before Opening Night

One day after the NBA officially tipped off with three marquee matchups, the Chicago Bulls will suit up for their first regular-season game. Their new era will begin on the road against the Toronto Raptors. Much like the Bulls, Toronto went through some of their own significant changes this offseason. Unlike the Bulls, those changes are expected to push them further toward another trip to the NBA Finals.

With that in mind, we asked Raptors On SI Publisher Jeremy Brener five questions ahead of the opening night battle. Let's learn a little bit more about a team the Bulls will face three times this season.

Chicago Bulls at Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction, Picks & Odds for Oct. 21, 2026

The Toronto Raptors will open their season against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto made a splash during the offseason by bringing Kawhi Leonard back to the franchise in a trade that sent Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick to the Los Angeles Clippers. Darko Rajaković returns as head coach, with former Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas joining his staff.

Chicago added Nic Claxton and Norman Powell while making a change on the bench, replacing Billy Donovan with Tiago Splitter.

Looking back to last season, Toronto closed the year on the right side of .500 (46-36 in the regular season), and they’re hoping to kick off an even more successful campaign this year. On the other hand, Chicago will seek to improve after ending the regular season at 31-51.

Three Things to Watch Ahead of the Bulls' Regular Season Opener Game

Chicago's 3–2 preseason wasn't enough to tell us where this team is headed, but it did throw up a few interesting storylines ahead of the regular-season opener against Toronto. There were encouraging individual performances, some familiar questions about the offense and a couple of young players making a case for bigger roles.

The important thing now is separating the production from the progress. Here's what I'm watching from a Bulls perspective as they take on the Raptors:

Giddey averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 assists across five preseason games, but shot just 36.7% from the field and 31.3% from three. The passing is there; the question is whether he can become a more consistent scoring threat.
