Aaron Pico | Still Learning

Backstage following his first UFC victory in April, Aaron Pico joked that he felt like he needed a Marlboro Red to help calm him down after securing a crucial unanimous decision win over Patricio Pitbull to get things moving in the right direction again.

“It was good; it was a big relief, especially after a performance like that against a legend like Pitbull,” Pico said ahead of his return at UFC 333.

UFC 333: Aaron Pico and Lone'er Kavanagh in must-see undercard fights in Abu Dhabi this weekend

UFC 333 brings one of the year's deepest fight cards to Abu Dhabi on Saturday, with competitive matchmaking beyond the championship fights. From established contenders to emerging prospects, very little separates fighters looking to make their marks.

The UFC has assembled arguably its most competitive card this year. Two main card fights are betting pick'ems, with two others carrying similarly narrow odds. The widest betting margin belongs to the co-main event, where bantamweight champion Petr Yan is a modest favorite against Merab Dvalishvili in their trilogy fight. It's a rare case where even the biggest main card favorite isn't a sure thing.

Aaron Pico didn’t blink when he went from a ranked to an unranked opponent

Aaron Pico wants to become a UFC champion, and though the fastest route to get there is facing higher-ranked opposition to climb into title contention, it’s not the only route.

The 30-year-old featherweight was set up for that at UFC 333 when he was matched up with perennial top-10 fighter Arnold Allen, but the fight barely got put together before a change was made. Allen was out, and he was being replaced by rising prospect Losene Keita, who just recently scored his first UFC win.
