NRL fans pay tribute after Penrith Panthers confirm immediate departure of six players
Fans are paying tribute to six departing Penrith Panthers players after they were farewelled by the club on Tuesday night. Dylan Edwards surprisingly pipped Nathan Cleary to the Penrith Panthers' player of the year gong at the club's end-of-season presentation night, despite the champion No.7 winning the Dally M Medal, along with the RLPA players' player of the year, Wally Lewis medal and Brad Fittler medal in 2026.
Cleary was unable to attend as he recovers from double leg surgery, and there was another element of sadness as the Panthers bid farewell to six players. Freddy Lussick became the latest to confirm his departure on Monday after agreeing a two-year deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs from 2027.
Lussick Locked In
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are thrilled to announce the signing of Freddy Lussick on a two-year deal.
The 26-year-old hooker joins the Club with 70 NRL games under his belt across stints with the Roosters, Dragons, Warriors and Panthers.
He was instrumental in the Panthers’ run to the preliminary finals this year, playing 20 games, starting in all but three and finishing the season with four tries and an average of 34 tackles per game.
Bulldogs General Manager of Football Phil Gould AM was excited to confirm the signing.
“We recognised that we needed more depth at hooker and Freddy fills that void perfectly,” he said.

Penrith Panthers confirm SIX player departures
The Penrith Panthers confirmed that six players will leave the club at their end-of-season awards night on Tuesday, after losing to the Knights in the preliminary final.
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the Perth Bears remain the biggest winners, receiving almost every player who is confirmed to be leaving the Western Sydney-based club.
Jack Cole, Liam Henry and Scott Sorensen will all head west to the Perth Bears, who are preparing for their first season.
Cole and Henry spoke to Zero Tackle exclusively about why they signed with the Bears as they continue their careers together.
Since he was a teenager, Cole has been with the Panthers and made his NRL debut with Henry in 2022, when they both scored a try in their first game.
