Electrical fire forces patients to move at hospital in Augusta Medical District

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Patients at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital in Augusta’s Medical District were relocated Saturday morning after an electrical fire inside an HVAC unit, according to the Augusta Fire Department.

As many as 40 patients were moved to other areas of the building.

Augusta firefighters responded shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke.

Augusta’s fire marshal told News 12 that firefighters quickly identified the electrical issue and that any damage was contained to the HVAC unit.

Walton Rehab CEO Eric Crossan said that hospital staff acted quickly and efficiently to move patients from the affected areas.
