Eagles part ways with forward after two seasons
The Eagles have made another list change after the trade period
MATT Owies won't be at West Coast in 2027 despite having a year left on his contract.
The small forward, who joined the Eagles from Carlton at the end of 2024, has been delisted, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
Owies spent two seasons at West Coast, kicking nine goals in 19 games.
"During ongoing discussions with Matt and his management group, Matt had been open to his time at West Coast coming to an end and moving back to Victoria," Eagles head of list management and recruiting Matt Clarke said.
"On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Matt for his contribution over the past two years.
West Coast delist small forward Matt Owies despite one year remaining on his Eagles contract
West Coast have delisted former Carlton small forward Matt Owies with a year remaining on his contract.
The Eagles made the announcement on Wednesday, with Owies to depart the club only two years into a three-year contract he signed when he crossed from the Blues at the end of the 2024 season.
Owies played only 19 games at West Coast, including only three this season, despite the club struggling for small forwards in the wake of Jamie Cripps’ retirement and Liam Ryan being traded to St Kilda at the end of 2025.
The 29-year-old was part of the controversial trade which led to both he and Liam Baker joining the Eagles from the Blues and Richmond respectively, with the Eagles giving up pick No.3 in that year’s draft as part of the deal which Carlton ultimately used to recruit this year’s Rising Star winner Jagga Smith.

West Coast delist Carlton recruit with year remaining on contract
West Coast has brutally delisted Matt Owies despite having a contract for the 2027 season.
Owies joined the Eagles at the end of 2024 after kicking a career-high 33 goals for Carlton that season.
But he struggled to have the same impact out west, kicking seven goals in 16 games last year before playing just thrice in 2026.
With fellow ground level forward Harvey Johnston also delisted, the Eagles look likely to pick up small front-half threats at next month's National Draft to complement talls Jake Waterman, Jobe Shanahan and Cooper Duff-Tytler.
The Eagles delisting a player in contract seemed inevitable when they re-signed everyone out-of-contract and they had just two open list spots, despite three AFL Draft selections in the top 24.
