Newly released Epstein emails allege Trump 'knew about the girls'

Campaigners have been urging Donald Trump to provide further clarity around his former friendship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. (Reuters: Phil Noble)

A fresh batch of emails released by Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee show Jeffrey Epstein suggesting that Donald Trump "spent hours at my house" with one of Epstein's victims.

In the emails, the convicted sex offender suggests Mr Trump knew more about his sexual abuse than the US president has acknowledged.

The White House has responded, accusing the Democrats of peddling a "fake narrative".

US Democrats have released emails in which Jeffrey Epstein suggested Donald Trump was aware of the disgraced financier's sexual abuse and had "spent hours" with one of his victims at his house.

Epstein emails thrust Trump back into spotlight over past ties

Newly released emails from Epstein’s estate reignite scrutiny of the US president’s old links to the sex offender

The release of previously unseen emails sent by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has thrust Donald Trump back into the center of the long-running Epstein controversy that has plagued his administration for months, inflamed parts of his own political base and offered Democrats an ongoing line of political attack.

On Wednesday, Democrats on the House oversight and government reform committee released email exchanges from 2011, 2015 and 2019 that they say were provided by the estate of the late Epstein, who died by suicide in federal prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex-trafficking minors.

I Tried Valve's Steam Frame, Machine and Controller: SteamOS Is Coming for Your Face and TV

Valve is working on a new standalone VR headset, Xbox-sized game console and wireless controller. I tried them all at the company's HQ.

Valve's Steam Frame on my face, with the Steam Controller to the left and the Steam Machine to the right.

Imagine, if you will, a Steam Deck and a VR headset combining into a new gaming life form — part Meta Quest, part handheld game system. As I slid the Steam Frame over my eyes and my hands into the controller, that's exactly what I felt.

The Steam Frame is a new VR headset by gaming giant Valve, the company behind the Steam platform, but it wasn't the only new piece of hardware I tested during the course of a few hours at Valve's HQ. There's also the Steam Machine, a console-sized PC designed to connect to a television, and the Steam Controller. These three new devices are designed to work together as a complete ecosystem.

Our focus today will lie with the two English teams — Arsenal and Manchester United — who face Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Holders Arsenal face a tricky test in the early kickoff Bavaria, where the German giants soundly beat them in the group stages last year.

Later on, Old Trafford will gets its first-ever dose of UWCL football, when United host PSG. The return of Mary Earps, whose recent autobiography has set tails wagging in English football circles, provides another fascinating subplot to the game.

‘I’m relishing every moment’: Kerr bags double in first Chelsea start in almost two years

Lyon and Chelsea maintained their form in a bid for direct qualification for the quarter-finals of the women’s Champions League with dominant victories on Tuesday.

Lyon made it three wins from three with a 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg, star Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg — the all-time top scorer in the competition — netting twice in the first half before fellow veteran Wendie Renard claimed a third from the penalty spot.

Dutch forward Lineth Beerensteyn claimed a consolation goal for Wolfsburg. It seemed to have been set up as a good night all round for French clubs. But there was heartbreak eight minutes into injury time as Real Madrid, through Caroline Weir, claimed a 1-1 draw with Paris FC, who had opened the scoring with a 41st-minute Lorena Azzaro penalty.

The Australia international made her first start for the club in nearly two years against St. Pölten on Tuesday, and marked the occasion with two second-half goals.

"It feels a bit sweeter, but it also feels a bit weird," Kerr told Disney+, when asked if goals feel different since her comeback.

Trump Says U.S. Lacks ‘Certain Talents’ As He Defends H-1B Visa In Fox Interview

President Donald Trump said H-1B visas were necessary to bring talented workers to the U.S., adding that the country lacked certain talents, in a confrontational exchange during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, which comes two months after he signed an executive order that hiked the fees on the skilled worker visas to $100,000.

In a clip of the interview that aired on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Trump claimed the U.S. was leading China on AI “by a lot,” said the U.S. has “the greatest economy,” and added “there is never going to be a country like what we have right now.”

Trump, who slapped an extra $100,000 on the H-1B visa, now says there aren’t enough talented people in the U.S. to fill jobs

Sasha Rogelberg is a reporter and former editorial fellow on the news desk at Fortune, covering retail and the intersection of business and popular culture.

President Donald Trump has appeared to change his tune on the stringency on one of his immigration policies, speaking about the importance of H-1B visas for specialized labor only a couple months after imposing steep hurdles meant to reduce the number of those visas doled out by U.S. companies.

Trump told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in an interview released on Sunday that although he continues to believe the U.S. would not be able to increase wages for American employees if it brought in thousands of foreign workers, he also said the American workforce is lacking in key areas.

Trump’s Shocking Brawl With Laura Ingraham on Fox Exposes His Weakness

MAGA influencers are in a rage over President Trump’s appearance on Fox News, in which he told host Laura Ingraham that the country needs skilled foreign workers. The surprisingly antagonistic dustup came after Ingraham challenged Trump’s support for visas for skilled workers, declaring that they “flood the country” with “hundreds of thousands of foreign workers.”

“I agree,” Trump said, before delivering the coup de grâce: “But you also do need to bring in talent.” When Ingraham claimed we have “talented people here,” Trump replied: “No, you don’t,” which appeared to mean that—sit down for this one—foreign workers actually can play a complementary and productive role in the U.S. economy. Ingraham was visibly irked when Trump argued that trained U.S. workers are not always available as needed, creating a need for foreign workers. After all, this is true MAGA heresy.

More storms for Queensland's south amid unsettled weather across state

Storms are forecast from the north-west of the state and down into the south-east. (Supplied: Shyne Pointon)

Thunderstorms are forecast from the Gulf Country through to Queensland's south-east. The most severe weather will likely be in the Maranoa, Warrego and Southern Downs.

Coastal and south-east areas will see showers and cooler conditions later in the weekend.

Storms are expected across a large part of inland Queensland today, with the Darling Downs region set to cop another weekend of severe weather. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said unsettled weather across the state was due to a cold front and surface trough combining.

Wild weather brings storms, frost and fire

Australians have woken up to teeth-chattering lows on Wednesday morning, with several parts of the country plunging to 0C.

Canberra still felt like -2C at 7am despite having warmed up a degree after dropping to 0C in the early hours of the morning.

While Sydneysiders escaped single-digit temperatures, hitting a minimum of 12C, those in western parts of NSW, like Orange and Griffith, were greeted with icy lows of 1C and 4C, respectively.

“You might have thought those temperatures were behind us for winter, but it (is) an icy, frosty start for the Central and Southern Tablelands, the Snowy Mountains and around the ACT,” meteorologist Angus Hines said. “After the cool morning, the good news is a fine, sunny and settled day with barely a puff of wind.

Liberals pave way to ditch net zero and settle infighting

Liberals Andrew Hastie and James Paterson, who opposed a net zero target in a party room meeting, shook hands as they exited the room. (ABC News: Callum Flinn)

Liberals will meet on Thursday morning to finalise a position on net zero.

A meeting of MPs on Wednesday, where a majority spoke in favour of abandoning the target, has cleared the way for it to be ditched.

Energy spokesman Dan Tehan is expected to present policy options to his shadow ministry colleagues on Thursday.

A majority of Liberals want to ditch net zero, paving the way for the shadow ministry to scrap the target and ending months of bitter public infighting over the climate policy.

These numbers say net zero is doomed – and so is Sussan Ley

The text message from a Liberal MP landed at about 20 minutes to 5pm, nearly five hours after the start of a Liberal party room meeting that looked for all the world like a leadership challenge, not a debate about policy.

Debate had run in favour of axing net zero, and as the message said, “it is done for”.

The Department of Justice has been hemorrhaging staff under President Donald Trump, with thousands of attorneys leaving and few being hired to replace them, according to a new report.

Since January, nearly 5,500 DOJ career employees have quit, taken a buyout, or been fired, according to Justice Connection, an advocacy group composed of department alumni.

DOJ in Crisis as Applicants Flunk the ‘Favorite Trump Policy’ Test

A new loyalty test for prospective hires has left the Justice Department with thousands of vacancies and a mounting case backlog.

Trump’s DOJ has experienced a sharp decline in applicants—especially qualified ones—in large part because of the partisan hiring process, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

As part of the vetting process, Justice Department applicants have been required to gush over their favorite Trump executive order or policy and detail how they would move it forward, the Post reported.

Career positions like those at the DOJ are designed to be nonpolitical—but experts described this question as a “workaround.”
