X down: Twitter not working amid major outage

The website and app stopped loading entirely on Tuesday. Problems were reported right across the world, according to tracking website Down Detector.

Twitter does not operate any status page of its own and it was not immediately clear why the app and website had broken.

It comes amid increasing scrutiny of X and its AI subsidiary, xAI, over the Grok chatbot. That chatbot – which is mainly used through X itself – has come under fire from governments and others after it generated an array of abusive and violent imagery.

While a number of countries have already looked to ban access to X over the outrage, there was nothing to indicate that the outage was related to that scandal.

X down for thousands of users globally, Downdetector shows

Jan 13 (Reuters) – An X outage eased on Tuesday after thousands of users worldwide reported issues with accessing the social ‌media platform, according to Downdetector.com.

The outage began around 9 ‌a.m. ET, peaking at more than 28,300 logged issues with Elon Musk's platform in the U.S. before cooling to about 700 reports, according to Downdetector.

In ‌the UK, reports fell to roughly 130 from a high of ‍more than 8,000, while Canada saw issues decline after topping 3,200 earlier in the day, according to the website that tracks outages by collating status ‌reports from a number of sources.

The company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on what caused the outage.

‘We are living in an age of cruelty’: George Clooney rebukes Tarantino for insulting Paul Dano

The Jay Kelly star says he would be honoured to work with Dano, Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard after all three actors were criticised by the director

George Clooney has said he would be “honoured” to work with three actors who were heavily criticised by Quentin Tarantino last month. Speaking at AARP’s Movies for Grownups awards on 10 January, Clooney said: “By the way, Paul Dano and Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard, I would be honoured to work with those actors. Honoured.”

Clooney continued by describing his new film, Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, as a movie “made by people who love actors – that’s an important part. People I’ve known most of my life … actually, most of them are actors. I have a great affinity [for them], and I don’t enjoy watching people be cruel.”

George Clooney Says He’d Be ‘Honored’ to Work With Paul Dano, Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard After Quentin Tarantino Insults: ‘We Are Living in a Time of Cruelty’

A month after Quentin Tarantino made headlines for slamming actors Paul Dano, Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard, George Clooney is making it known where he stands.

“By the way, Paul Dano and Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard, I would be honored to work with those actors. Honored,” Clooney said while accepting his best actor award for “Jay Kelly” at AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards on Saturday. He described “Jay Kelly” as being “made by people who love actors — that’s an important part. George Clooney Defends Paul Dano After Quentin Tarantino Comments

George Clooney is saying good night to this Quentin Tarantino take.

After the Pulp Fiction director recently referred to Paul Dano as the “weakest f–king actor” in the Screen Actors Guild, the Ocean’s Eleven star went to bat for the There Will Be Blood actor, emphasizing how important it is for those in the film industry to celebrate each other.

"'Jay Kelly' is a film about and made by people who love actors," George, 65, said as he accepted Best Actor award for his performance in Jay Kelly at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards on Jan. 10. "It's an important part of this…you know, people throughout this room and people I've known most of my life, actually, and most of them are actors, and I have a great affinity. I don't enjoy watching people be cruel to actors."

Case accusing Ticketmaster of abusive pricing moves forward

MONTREAL — A class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster has been approved by the Quebec Superior Court, allowing consumers in the Canadian province to sue over what they call “abusive” service fees on ticket sales. The case now can move forward to a full trial to decide whether the company must pay refunds or damages to affected customers.

The lawsuit was first filed in August 2024 by Montreal law firm Paquette Gadler Inc. on behalf of a Montreal man, Felipe Morales, who says he was charged high fees when buying event tickets on Ticketmaster. The legal team is seeking to represent other Quebec residents who bought tickets through Ticketmaster for North American shows since July 2021.

"Unfortunately, this isn't good news," his ex-wife Shelly Miles told Adams' fans on YouTube. "He's not with us … anymore."

President Donald Trump praised Adams as a "fantastic guy, who liked and respected me when it wasn’t fashionable to do so."

"He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease," Trump said in a statement. "My condolences go out to his family, and all of his many friends and listeners."

The announcement came via Adams’ YouTube channel, where he livestreamed daily until Monday morning.

“Hi everyone. Unfortunately this isn’t good news. Of course he waited until just before the show started, but he’s not with us anymore,” his ex-wife, Shelly Adams, said through tears Tuesday morning.

His & Hers review – this glossy thriller is ideal new year TV

This six-part adaptation of the bestselling 2020 novel about a murder investigation is twisty, absurd and bingeable. It’s great January viewing

A woman lies bloodied and twitching her last on the bonnet of a car parked deep in a wood. Another woman arrives home bloodied, gasping with fear and for wine, and starts scrubbing her hands before clearing her flat of – well, everything.

A female voiceover intones that there are two sides to every story. “Which means someone is always lying.” Absolute nonsense, obviously, but it sounds great and more importantly it confirms what we were hoping: that we are in the presence of a glossy, efficient adaptation of a bestselling thriller and it is time to switch off our brains and enjoy (unless you are the type who likes to try to solve the mystery before the characters do, in which case, Godspeed and let me know where you get the energy from).

The Ashes 2025-26: Glenn McGrath says Australia's next goal will be winning in England in 2027

Australia beat England in the Ashes because they played good, solid Test cricket.

They did the basics well and deserved their 4-1 series victory.

You look at the Australia team compared to what England thought they were going to come up against with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon – and the only one they've really had to face is Starc because of injuries to the others.

But the guys that came in really stepped up and you've got to give credit to Starc for the way he stepped up and performed. He really took the load to finish the series as the leading wicket-taker with 31. It was incredible.

The Children's Movie That Might End Up Making More Money Than Avatar: Fire And Ash

On December 19, 2025, "Avatar: Fire and Ash," the third installment of James Cameron's "Avatar" franchise, hit theaters. Within three days of its release, the film had already made $88 million domestically. Barely two weeks later that figure grew to $300 million – alongside a $1 billion performance worldwide. As of early January 2026, "Fire and Ash" sits as the third highest-grossing film of 2025. However, while "Avatar" still has weeks left in its theatrical run to move up in the rankings, it currently sits behind the animated sequel "Zootopia 2," which has made over $1.45 billion at the box office. The deciding factor in this box office battle may actually come down to China.
