Why Minneapolis was the place where ICE launched its largest operation yet

Fathmo Hassan says she became scared to be outside as ICE operations surged across Minneapolis. (ABC News: Phoebe Hosier)

Somali woman Fathmo Hassan has barely left her Minneapolis home in weeks.

But with homemade sambusas and canisters of coffee ready to be dispensed, she stepped out into the pale winter day and headed to a suburban street where mourners were gathering to remember Renee Nicole Good.

"She was a mother, she was respected. She tried to help the people," Hassan said, standing on an icy footpath at the memorial. "It's very, very sad."

Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was monitoring an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation when she was fatally shot through the windshield and open window of her car by an immigration officer earlier this week.

Council member who lost eye in George Floyd protest sees echo in Ice killing

Soren Stevenson says Minneapolis shooting ‘reminiscent in a scary way’ – but he and his neighbors are feeling activated

It was Soren Stevenson’s third day in office as a Minneapolis city council member on Wednesday when Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by ICE on the edge of his district.

On Thursday, he sat in an eerily quiet food court at lunchtime in Plaza Mexico, a mall of mostly Latino businesses in south Minneapolis, eating carne asada and talking about how his neighborhood was once again the center of a national firestorm.

“We’re sitting here in Plaza Mexico, a place that is bustling at lunchtime, and it is virtually empty,” he said. “Half the stores are closed, and that’s because people are afraid to go outside. And so if we want to talk about what’s making a good city, what’s making a good economy, what’s making us feel safe, it’s not this.”

Arc Raiders cheating earns stern response from Embark as players sound the alarm: "We are implementing significant changes to our rulesets and deploying new detection mechanisms"

Arc Raiders cheating and a similar rise in unfair exploits have been addressed by developer Embark Studios, which promises new tools and punishments to help clean up the game.

In a post on the game's official Discord server, Embark community admin Ossen confirms, "We’ve seen the discussion around the topic of cheaters in ARC Raiders. Please know that we are taking this issue very seriously and are listening to, and acting on your feedback."

ARC Raiders PC Aim Assist Feels Like a Cheat, PS5 and Xbox Behind

A new ARC Raiders revelation has made the game feel a lot easier with aim assist turned on on PC, that it almost feels like a cheat.

Aim assist is a rather useful feature that helps some players to aim in competitive games, particularly in games that feature cross-play between some users who have controllers and others with a keyboard and mouse setup.

Normally, there's no shame for using aim assist in our eyes. But in this one case, I'm not so sure.

One ARC Raiders player has demonstrated just how overpowered the game’s implementation of aim assist is by showing how it’s tied to specific frames-per-second values.

Arc Raiders Cheaters Are Finally Getting Banned – But Players Aren’t Happy

Arc Raiders cheaters are finally getting banned. However, players say that Embark Studios hasn’t gone far enough to stop cheating.

Embark Studios have finally started banning Arc Raiders cheaters. However, many players are not happy with the new suspension system and claim that it doesn’t go far enough to punish accounts using exploits.

Ever since Arc Raiders launched in October, players have been begging Embark to take a stronger stance against cheating. Over the last month in particular, there have been numerous examples of cheaters directly ruining the games of Twitch streamers playing the extraction shooter live.

However, it appears that Embark Studios are finally starting to roll out bans for those caught cheating in the online shooter. On January 11, cheaters trying to log in to their game were locked out of their accounts and met with a ban message stating that they had been suspended.

BBL 2025-26: Match 30, REN vs STA Match Prediction – Who will win today’s BBL match between Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars?

The Match No. 30 of the ongoing BBL 2025-26 will be played between Melbourne Renegades (REN) and Melbourne Stars (STA) at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday, January 10.

The Renegades have won and lost an equal number of matches in the six games they have played so far. Their most-recent clashes have been a couple of slender four-wicket wins against the Stars and Perth Scorchers, respectively.

The Stars' season, on the contrary, has been one of two extremes. After winning their first four matches, they have been dented thrice, two of which were final-over losses. The Marcus Stoinis-led side will be keen on posting their first win of 2026 and return to winning ways.

Tom Rogers smashed the equal second-fastest half-century in Stars history as his team reignited their push for a maiden BBL title with a commanding eight-wicket Melbourne derby win over the Renegades.

In-form Renegades blaster Josh Brown laid the platform for the hosts' 7-166 at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night with 80 off 50 balls.

But Rogers and fellow opener Sam Harper both fired to help the Stars reach 2-170 with 25 deliveries to spare.

In doing so, the Stars turned the tables on their rivals after losing the first derby of the season six days earlier.

TORONTO — It was a brief cameo at the end of a blowout win, but it meant everything to Philadelphia 76ers guard Kyle Lowry.

The six-time All-Star got a rousing standing ovation when he checked in for the final 1:57 of Philadelphia's 115-102 win at Toronto on Monday night.

It could be the final appearance the 39-year-old makes in the city where he spent nine seasons and won the 2019 NBA championship.

"I got an opportunity to experience probably one of the greatest basketball moments of my personal career," said Lowry, who left with the game ball after making his first appearance since Dec. 23 against Brooklyn.

76ers' Kyle Lowry: Standing ovation in Toronto

Lowry produced zero points (0-3 FG, 0-3 3Pt) in two minutes during Monday's 115-102 victory over the Raptors.

Lowry played out the final two minutes in the blowout win, receiving a standing ovation for what is likely to be his final game in Toronto. After playing much of his career with the Raptors, Lowry now serves as a depth piece for the 76ers, spending very little time on the court. While there is obviously no fantasy impact here, the fans were certainly appreciative of everything he did during his time in Toronto.

WTA Adelaide Day 2 Predictions Including Liudmila Samsonova vs Marketa Vondrousova

The WTA Adelaide draw starts to narrow as players look to build momentum in one of the final stops before Melbourne. With conditions that reward aggressive baseline play and confident serving, early-round matchups can quickly turn on rhythm and timing. Day 2 offers a mix of power, variety, and contrasting styles, setting up contests where execution in key moments should be decisive. As always, we break down the matches and give our predictions for all the matches on the schedule, but who will progress?

Cirstea’s game is well suited to hard courts, where her flat groundstrokes and willingness to step inside the baseline allow her to take control of rallies. She’s also experienced enough to manage tempo swings and stay patient when matches tighten. Yastremska brings raw power and aggression, but her level can fluctuate, especially when forced to hit extra balls. In their past meetings, Cirstea has shown she can absorb pace and redirect it effectively but her lack of confidence and Yastremska’s ability to keep the ball deep and limits free points, that steadiness should pay off.
    Prediction: Yastremska in 2

Doncic and Schroder jawed at each other during various points of the Kings' 125-101 loss. During a timeout, Doncic taunted Schroder, telling him he "should've signed that contract" in reference to the four-year, $82 million extension Schroder declined from the Lakers a few years ago.

Things appeared to cool off as the game ended. But Schroder left the visitors locker room at Crypto.com Arena, spotted Doncic and tempers flared again inside the tunnel across from the home bench.

Australia's little-known number one woman tennis player firing in Adelaide – News

After an epic first round win from Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Adelaide International late last night, the top ranked Australian woman aims to emulate his deeds today. Richard Evans speaks exclusively to Maya Joint for InDaily.

It would not have been a great surprise had 19-year-old Maya Joint been something of a rabbit in the spotlight when she turned out for a press conference at Memorial Drive on Sunday afternoon.

Just two days before, the newly crowned – yet almost wholly anonymous – Australian number one female player had been trounced 6-1, 6-1 by Iga Swiatek in front of 10,000 fans and the national TV cameras at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney.
